Title: Radio LM
Post by: Ruptured Duck Motorsport on May 30, 2003, 12:47:26 pm
So any ideas on the sponsors of Radio LM this year?  Looks like no Chrysler this year from the look af the double page ad in Autosport.   No Chrysler mean no annoying commentators?!

I already have preset 1 in the car set to 91.2FM  ;D

Radio Le Mans is an amazing asset. Ian Titchmarsh does a quite outstanding 24 hours + at the mike. Just a shame that some other members of the team aren't so knowledgeable. Particularly a prat from the top right hand corner of England (no offence H), who knows far less than he thinks.
For keeping up with what's occuring it's indispensable.

We might be scum up here in the top right hand corner of england but at least we come from a long line of scum.

Could'nt resist

I don't think we should gripe about RLM, they do a splendid job. It's just that if I hear that poxy Castrol Motor Oil advert again, I know it'll tip me over the edge, I just know it will.
Baby you make me go vr....BLAM! BLAM! take that suckers...BLAM! and another.
Err, sorry lads, you know how it is.

Mix me a molotov...

Hi folks,
whatever nonsense they sometimes may talk (don't we too...), the people of Radio Le Mans are doing a great job. I still remember the dark ages when there was no RLM around but just hourly updates in English (or so...) by the public loud-speaker-system.

May RLM be on air forever......

Cheers

Werner

Motoring News this week carries a full page advert for Radio LM, sponsored by Autosport. I still have banging around in my head "Hello left brain, this is right brain etc etc" from Chrysler in 1999!! I guess you can't complain much though as it is an invaluable service for us non-frenchies.

Wasn't Radio LM sponsored by AutoSport for the Classic last autumn?

Sadly, I was listening in the early hours (at home) and won a competition. After not hearing anything for ages, I chased them up and ended up talking to someone at ASutoSport. They said they'd give me a year's free sub, but nothing more happened.

They're right bastards like that.

My mate won a PS2 game a couple of years ago on a RLM phone-in quiz. But when he went to the office in the Village to claim the prize they pretended to know nothing about it. Not very impressed to say the least.

I had a similar experience with a lads/internet type magazine.  Won a shed load of stuff for my PC, it never turned up, managed to get on the "readers vs magazine staff" drinking competition, we won that, and I managed to cliam my goodies from before!!

Indeed Andy,
I've lost count of the stuff I've 'won', but always get fobbed off when I go to collect it. John Hindaugh took pity on me last year and gave me vouchers for just about everthing. These translated into just about nothing.
Maybe we should tackle the lad about it on his Friday night tour.

As I understand it, legally (in the UK at least), the broadcaster is responsible for the output of the station. So I wonder what the effects would be if certain "colourful language" was used, particularly in reference to the tightarsed nature of the hosts. It would be easier to get half a lager out of a Scotsman.

I expect they keep all the goodies to dish out amongst themselves after the race. Or am I being a tad cynical?

Of course the keep all the good stuff - I have it on very good authority (from an Ex RLM person) that most of the competitions for good stuff are maniplated to say the least.

Leave out the Chrysler or Castrol ads - if you had to broadcast and listen to the "Radio Le Mans courtesy of Jiffy condoms" adverts a few years ago you'd probably blag the stuff too!

I rember the Jiffy condom stuff, did think that it was a bit strange tho, definate lack of avalible totty at LM, so not much chance of it getting used in the way it was desighned. Same year I seam to recall Radio Le Mans guys getting very drunk on air, f'ing and blinding and being basily very rude and very very funny. We had a jorno from the BBC - mix with the right people we do - whos jaw was bouncing of the floor. I think there was now broadcast rule not brocken.

You're right - aside from the distribution of free condoms around the campsites, I had forgotten how good the commentary was that year!    (Says he, wistfully remembering the time you could still pitch up at the circuit on the Thurday and buy a ticket for Houx at the campsite gate.......)
