They don't actually sell 'optimax' in France - certainly not in Normandy anyway. I believe it's branded as something else - still around the 98 mark though.

Here's a list of the shell stations in france from their french website.  Doesn't look too hopeful  :(

tis easy, there is a shell garage in Arnage, at the top northern end near the roundabout and supermarket, although i doubt it sells optimax, it didn't last year at the classic.  nice vintage shots of the garage with porkers being worked on.

Optimax, although great petrol isn't as big a worry in France 'cos their UL super stuff is at least 97 oct anyway. Lara, my Midget likes Optimax very much but was equally happy over there with the SUL.

So, if you really need Optimax you must be driving the John Thingy Merlin engined Superroller. or a Supermarine Spitfire.

OK I give in.... :D

Perdu is correct.
My sisters TVR uses Optimax over heree, but loves and runs really well on the Super as its called in France. you have a choise of Sna Plomb 95 _ the usual stuff

And San Plomb Super 97 - The better stuff.

Obviously something which needs all the help it can get. A Nissan Micra perhaps?  ;D

My old Granada used to pink all the time on Super sans plomb, even from Shell Arnage.  I suggest you take some decent octane booster, as serious detonation could trash a decent engine on a run to Le Mans.

We, the LADS, all fill up at the Shell garage in Arnage.
I'm running a well tweaked 1700 crossflow on 40's and only use Optimax in the uk but have never had a problem with max octane from this garage. The only issue that I have had is getting fried in the sunshine whilst waiting to fill up for the return journey last year.  :o
Avoid the Monday between 10 and 12.00 am

Reminded me of Daytona, just before Sebring (did I say I was there?...)

Canada Phil pointed out to me that on the Sunday the Daytona Bike Week ended, all teh gas stations on the routes out of town had jacked up their prices. Well, only those on the right side of the road. Those on the inbound side were cheaper... easy way to screw a bit more out of any lazy bikers...

I think the moral was fill up before going home day...

As I have had some considerable experience with old Granadas (NO sniggering please), especially black ones, can't say I ever had a pinking problem on sans plomb 97, even when towing. On regular unleaded in the Uk it would pink like buggery!

In my experience all French Super is 98 octane.  Shell are selling us as something special what the French have been getting for years.
