Title: Marking off your pitch - best way? Post by: Kate Shaw on May 06, 2005, 07:17:50 pm I will be arriving earlier than the other people who will camping with me -- that is, if current negotiations go on as at present -- and would like to mark off enough space so that they can park their car and pitch their tent when they arrive. What's the best way of staking out space that is likely to be both "fair and balanced" -- that is, a balanced use of space seen as fair by later arrivals? Is there a marking off system you can buy at Canadian Tire, for example?
Title: Re:Marking off your pitch - best way? Post by: Mr Toad on May 06, 2005, 07:26:24 pm Hi Kate.
Barrier tape is a good temporary measure, and you can move it easily as you build camp. Try Screwfix direct or ask a freindly policeman for "incident" version (there is one around here!) There are several forms of fence on the market - good for keeping wanderers out of private areas, but many find it a touch antisocial. I've got some fancy plastic chain link fence with low marker posts this year so people can step in, but realise it's a private area. Enjoy! Title: Re:Marking off your pitch - best way? Post by: Kate Shaw on May 06, 2005, 09:03:42 pm To what do you attach the barrier tape? Are there some kind of inexpensive yet secure posts to be had, that can be installed without one of those big hammers?
Title: Re:Marking off your pitch - best way? Post by: Piglet on May 06, 2005, 09:20:19 pm We have a plan involving barrier tape and those metal spikes that farmers use..... ;)
Title: Re:Marking off your pitch - best way? Post by: Brian(Liverpool boys) on May 06, 2005, 09:30:06 pm Kate, get some strong CA's to roll over some of the tyres from around MB, that are used when MB is a race track as a tyre wall, 4 sets of tyres one for each corner affix tape, jobs a good one.
No hammer, no posts. Brian 8) Title: Re:Marking off your pitch - best way? Post by: Steve Pyro on May 06, 2005, 09:59:27 pm We use barrier tape (Police Line, Gas Below or similar) and take along some of those plastic electric fence posts with a metal spike at the bottom.
We also make use of conveniently placed rubbish drums to mark our pitch. Title: Re:Marking off your pitch - best way? Post by: Ferrari Spider on May 06, 2005, 10:24:05 pm anyone tried electrified stock fencing?
Title: Re:Marking off your pitch - best way? Post by: Rhino on May 06, 2005, 11:23:22 pm We took plastic sheet with brick wall effect wallpaper on it. Very nice it looked.

Post by: Rob on May 07, 2005, 06:28:54 pm last year we used the metal stakes with the orange mesh stuff (i also work in the construction trade so i got it reasonably cheap) it seemed to work pretty well....
which reminds me, i have to get some more ::) Title: Re:Marking off your pitch - best way? Post by: Ferrari Spider on May 07, 2005, 06:40:01 pm One other consideration is the ability to be able to defend the homestead perimeters. By about Wednesday as the campsite fills your area can be easy game. ;D

Title: Re:Marking off your pitch - best way? Post by: Bob U on May 09, 2005, 12:57:02 pm I was watching a very interesting program about wolves on Animal Planet last night. They have a very good way of marking their territory although I don't reccomend you try it on MB unless you are a real exhibitionist.
Title: Re:Marking off your pitch - best way? Post by: Fran on May 09, 2005, 02:13:36 pm Bob U - its no so much a problem of being an exhibitionist, more that rather a lot of "wolves" may have already claimed the territory as well!!! In fact I myself would have been the proud owner of a nice new Range Rover in MB a few years back if that technique was effective :-[
Did anyone see the programme about pandas marking their territory - now that would be quite something to see happening on a large scale in MB - not sure there are enough trees tho. :D F Title: Re:Marking off your pitch - best way? I don't fancy crawling along the floor and sniffing everytime I think I might be about to wonder into somebody else's territory.... Having said that, might be effective for those who are blind drunk and crawling along the floor anyway!! Title: Re:Marking off your pitch - best way? Thats the stuff to use with a small pool of bright green liquid just inside it for effect.
Title: Re:Marking off your pitch - best way? Post by: Perdu on May 10, 2005, 11:34:19 pm Robbo, I'll be the Houx Annexe volunteer if okay. Steve, will you mark off enough for the Brummie AA Boys too please mate? Same place as last time if you like but maybe 1 more car and the pool. Oh and the gazebos. Should have the advance party, me and two others in place Wednesday before the tetre rouge session at the Stella Bar Please, please, please? Is that enough grovelling or would you like some more? Armchair space is essential! :) Bill Title: Re:Marking off your pitch - best way? Post by: Steve Pyro on May 10, 2005, 11:37:23 pm No probs Bill, all sorted. I reckon we'll arrive on HA mid Wednesday afternoon this year. Same place as before? Do you have a hose pipe? Title: Re:Marking off your pitch - best way? Post by: Perdu on May 10, 2005, 11:42:48 pm Hose pipe, hmm? I do but it might be better to buy a chuckaway from Carref**r maybe. What sort of ends are they on the taps, didnt notice last year?
If we bring/sort out a hose you will be welcome to its use too. Same place is fine, we can act as the buffer zone from the mad hoseyoudowners again. Thinking about it, makes a hose pipe an even better idea! Bill Title: Re:Marking off your pitch - best way? Post by: andynick on May 13, 2005, 10:54:52 am Perdu, I think last year a lot of hozelock connectors were being used I have already got a threadedv tap connector with three different thread sizes to try also a few straight connector's and a three way tee piece (can always tap into someone 's supply on the quiet ;D ;)
Title: Re:Marking off your pitch - best way? Post by: Steve Pyro on May 13, 2005, 11:21:12 am Bill etc, as you know, we normally like to camp near to a standpipe. carrefour have all the relevant adaptors - 1/2" or 3/4" bsp spring to mind.
Title: Re:Marking off your pitch - best way? Post by: Perdu on May 13, 2005, 01:13:32 pm Steve, looks as if Nick has done some thinking about this, he is supplying the pool after all. Do you have the hose too Nick or will the advance party have to take the pool with us and pop a hose on the list for the first "CARREFOUR SHOP"?
Hmm Beer, Beer, Burgers, charcoal, Beer, Burgers, Beer, hose pipe, Beer, Eggs, Baconsubstitute, Beer, Sweet Sherry (just in case Fran comes to visit) Beer, Meaty lumps, Beer, Chops, Chicken and oh yes Beer! ;D ;D ;D Bill Steve d'you know if those other HA campings will be on offer yet? Fran will you be at the Tetre Rouge Stella Bar on Wednesday and will I have to fight everyone there to attract your attention? Or shall I just open the sherry bottle?

Title: Re:Marking off your pitch - best way? Post by: Ferrari Spider on May 24, 2005, 01:58:37 pm rob, any good builders merchant, like travis or jewsons etc will have plenty of stock. they only cost a few pence each, so dont don't skimp amd make sure your barrier is fully erect, stretched thus keeping the dreaded wrinkles and limp look that some barrier fences have.
any troubles nip round to MB and the sortED clinic hosted by Team JPChenet and a quick consultation will have limpness a thing of the past. |
