Title: Bank Holiday Monday
Post by: Andy Zarse on May 06, 2005, 12:53:16 pm
My local village is having it's annual fete on monday 30th May. A real old fashioned village effort with brass band, donkey rides, Harvey's Best straight out the barrel in the beer tent, dog show, steam engines, kiddies fun fair, strip tent etc. For me the highlight is the substantial classic car show, with over a hundred vehicles last year. They even had a small section for Le Mans cars:

It's proper good day out for all the family. Last year Team Zarse were pleased to welcome Nordic and family and Gibberish. Anyway, we'll be there again au Commer

and would be delighted if any CA'ers were to put in an appearance. Staplefield can be found ten miles south of Gatwick, one minute off the main A23 road to Brighton.

May well try to sort out the family for a jaunt down Andy. How do you go about entering the Classic Car show. Do you just turn up on the day or have to pre-book. I'll try to drag my uncle along with his A35.

I can assure you, and you're welcome to verify this yourself at LM, she looks bloody awful in real life. The green paint job was done with a brush and rollers. And no undercoat.

.....are you not being Mrs fussy knickers!  Isn't that the way everything got painted once?

Probably fussy yes, but the white marks above the word COMMER just below the grille is were the paint came of when i was jet-washing the moss off it. Oh and the roof looks a nice shade of silver metallic in the photo, yes? Well it's actually Hammerite with all paint brush bristles stuck in it.  :(

Tough call this one...

You going Mr Brown?

A couple of beers in the garden sound good, if your idea of a smart motor is a commer van.  Which one in the picture was Andy?

The covered wagon in the pic would look just fab in Maison Blanche. Were there any horses? - if so I'd only rate their chances of a return at 50-50.

Sadly?  I will be attending neither as I intend to be 30 metres under the Indian Ocean looking for Nemo.  :D

Robbo,

Congratultions mate, it appears from your post as if you're "courting" a young lady. Good news indeed, who is the lucky girl?

Staplefield is certainly a fine place to step out, and step in things too if you stay late enough. Last year it degenerated into what might be termed "good practice for the shampoo bar". I seem to remember there were some "carryings on" in the back of the commer by one of our team...

Anyhow, thick heads all round and work next day was no fun. :(

Just bumping this one back up the board. The Commer will probably be there, though it all depends on how far I get with replacing the clutch and crankshaft oilseal.  ???

About 10.00am I think. I'll probably be down there about 12.00ish. Hears from Gibberish, who is looking to put in an appearance.

Depending on the weather and getting a new kitchen floor laid (the last of the " I'll get it done before I go to Le Mans " jobs), I might pop down. The Duke needs a shake down run after having had some work done on it, so it's a choice beteen getting up early, and going to Santa Pod, or a lie in and heading for darkest Sussex.

Apologies for the non appearance of the Commer this year, due to a combination of the awful weather and the f**ked clutch.  :(

The dog won a prize though, for doing the biggest sh*t in the show ring.  :D

Apologies also for the fact I will be largely out of circulation for a week due to having a round Britain tour to do for work. This seems to happen every year about this time and it's pissing me off.

Look on the bright side Mr. Zarse, I am have just found out I am going to be made redundant at the end of July, at least it will be after all the LM bills  :( :(

Facel Vega

For that alone I should have been there. My personal favourite car of all time.

As for the dog show Zarse, I presume you had the usual manicure.
