Title: Pre Qual
Post by: Fran on April 07, 2005, 10:27:23 pm
Can anyone tell me what goes on for pre-qual weekend?  I saw on another thread some chat about a possible campsite - has that been sorted out?  Is it worth a look?

(I can see me spending a month in France at this rate!  ;D )

Hi fran , check the ACO website for the timetable, Dont forget that if you buy your 24 hour ticket at that time (or in advance)  that Pre Qual is free for the weekend, and sit in the stands (other than the ACO, i believe) anywhere for free plus no queing at the gate on the day.

PS, hotels are still quite cheap and readily available.

Booked one of the towen centre ones a few months back for the Fri/Sat nights and ISTR it was quite a bit more than it usually is...could be wrong...

I'd assumed that teams and others involved had already block booked...

There's a job lot of motels at the north of Le Mans at the end of the new bit of Autoroute, they always seem to have rooms for the PQ weekend, although it might be different this year with the race being so close afterwards.

Thanks for info on hotels etc.   but what about the actual cars n stuff??!!!

I am kinda convincing myself that its only a week between PQ and when i would be going to LM anyway.... so might as well have a nosey at PQ and then spend a few days at the beach  before returning to Bleu :) ....

You may not know this but some of the hard-core CA element went to Sebring just so they could follow their hero JH!

And he wasn't even there!!!!

Rick, in the words of my old mate Confucius.

It is better to remain quiet and let people think you are a fool, rather than speak and remove all doubt.

PQ's 2004 thats me far right.

If i'm not mistaken thats you out of shot and looking down at the crucial time or maybe fallen a sleep again.

Rick's referring to Sebring, and the fact that JH wasn't there!

I forget which campsite is open, but it isn't Maison Blanche. The weekend goes from Saturday to Sunday (don't they all?). IIRC there is some kind of scrutineering during Saturday then testing on Sunday. This year it isn't pre-qualifying. Mr McNish told me that he won't be at pre-q even though he is driving in the main event.

It's a great time to be at the track as you can really get around easily - you can take the car in for maybe €9 (or was it €15?) and drive to those parts you can't usually be arsed to walk to. OK, the cars aren't quite racing, but they are going pretty quick and with a much lesser crowd there are some good photo opprtunities, if that's your bag.

It is also much freer getting around in the pit area and paddock - little security, and important people have more time for you and seem soooo accessible. Many of the concessions are open so you can get sustenance.

Highly recommended!
