Title: Beermountain 2005 - Updated Post by: Mr Toad on March 31, 2005, 07:39:11 pm Afternoon chaps (and chapesses). Not a blatent plug, but I've used the cr*p weather over Easter reasonably productively - some new bits & bobs on the Beermountain. Hope you like it!

Perhaps you could enlighten us a bit more regarding the associate membership, is this just for forum activities? And do we get discount on the merchandise? And finally, what are your 05 designs going to be like? Cheers. Title: Re:Beermountain 2005 - Updated Post by: Mr Toad on March 31, 2005, 08:14:53 pm Yes - photos of the new gear will be posted next Friday (just debating choice of 2005 "Beer Girl"/Model).
We will have a web forum at a low scale for info exchange on campsites etc, so never really in the mould of CA - however I'd be honoured if some of you decided to join to keep in touch with us & our plans. Frankly I'm going to be giving some of the gear away to those from CA that have helped us out in the past, but as it's out my pocket, I'll have to sell some as well - will sort pricing etc soonish - will also bring stock down to MB campsite (I'll explain this and the added bonus when I can show you the t-shirt design!!) And it's nothing to do with a free shower or a massage before those that saw that topic ask!! ;D ;D On a further note - links. If anyone has a website (LM related of course!) and it's not currently on our links page - please let me know and I'll do something about it - likewise there are some banners there if anyone needs some. Those that don't have a link to us on their site - you know who you are!! ;) http://www.beermountain.com/links.htm I'll report back to this thread in 10 days or so re all the above when the shirts are on line! Title: Re:Beermountain 2005 - Updated Post by: Fran on March 31, 2005, 08:40:01 pm Mr Toad (and anyone else who has an opinion on the matter) - having checked out your website - particularly the beer mountain section - i wonder if you might settle a small dispute that has been continuing between myself and my Le Mans travelling companion for a couple of years or so......
What is the official position with regard to using mastic, glue, guy ropes and other materials to hold your beer bottle wall together? My feeling is that it is blatant cheating and shouldnt be allowed any more than performance enhancing drugs are allowed in other competitive sports. What do you reckon? Fran Title: Re:Beermountain 2005 - Updated Post by: smokie on March 31, 2005, 09:12:53 pm Performance enhancing drugs and artifical means of keeping things up aren't always a bad thing Fran. ;)
Site is looking good Mr T... Title: Re:Beermountain 2005 - Updated Post by: Rusty on April 01, 2005, 02:42:57 am Fran,
We'll just take the performance enhansing drugs, f**k building a beerwall, a heap will do us just fine, it will always look like a mountainous wall to us. Rusty Title: Re:Beermountain 2005 - Updated Post by: Rusty on April 01, 2005, 03:07:32 am Apologies for not updating our site Mr.T.
Sadly our pal Hinch has shifted his fat f**k*ng arse over to Shanghai and seems to be far more interested in Asia Minor than is acceptable, he is now unavailable for anything else other than pubic topiary. It would seem that I have now been deemed the new webmeister ( as well as everything else), sadly I know f**k all about webermeisteringnesslingtonpasspatoof'angf'tangolebiscuitbarrellmccdfcvcandbar so it may well take a little while for a proper update, all I can say from the pics that I currently hold from last year is that it will be well worth the wait. Rusty ??? Title: Re:Beermountain 2005 - Updated Post by: Mr. Invincible Mou on April 01, 2005, 11:36:12 am I have to agree with fran here. I am a believer in all natural beer mountains. Over the years, we have developed a technique, where by the wall is supported with a moraine of wine, whiskey and cognac bottles. Although one year (when one of our lads was just finishing a particularly nasty divorce) the moraine actually topped out the beer :o
There is also the added excitement of occasionally having to repair some natural slippage caused by a passing V8 or V12 ;D Title: Re:Beermountain 2005 - Updated Post by: hgb on April 01, 2005, 11:51:00 am The use of glue and other aids is perfectly legal once the mountain has reached a certain height. This is to prevent the menace of avalanches. A beer bottle avalanche is a horrific incident.
Title: Re:Beermountain 2005 - Updated Post by: Mr Toad on April 01, 2005, 12:04:54 pm Fran - like any sport, beer mountaineering is a "broad church", and there are always extremists who would agree with you...as well as those that wouldn't take a step out their tent unless fully equipped with all the latest aids in the sport.
Over at Beermountain we favour the Alpine method of mountain building, which allows as to express ourselves more artistically with beer than would otherwise be possible. We therefore have an account with Screwfix Direct for all the tubes of silicone, wooden base plates, mallets etc. Now you mention it its time we ran a new feature on mountain building technique, but here was the last one... http://www.beermountain.com/building_advice.htm Seen here - Oddball "tops out" on a quick Alpine ascent up Mt Kronenbourg, Le Mans, France, 2004 - note the lightweight approach - t-shirt, shorts, a couple of guy ropes and a handy silicone gun... Title: Re:Beermountain 2005 - Updated Post by: Mr. Invincible Mou on April 01, 2005, 12:19:41 pm Whilst not quite in the above category, although in defence this was a picture taken early on, I have here an example of a "natural" mountain complete with moraine.
I would like to apologise though, for the bloody bottle of water which managed to get in there. I think this was due to some passerby having a bit of a giggle. But I am a little disappointed there are no cidre bottles to be seen. :(
Title: Re:Beermountain 2005 - Updated Post by: Mr. Invincible Mou on April 01, 2005, 12:31:09 pm I fully intend to try the cidre breakfasts this year Andy ;D
Afterall I have read about them on this site, I cannot believe we had not given them a try before. ;) Title: Re:Beermountain 2005 - Updated Post by: Andy Zarse on April 01, 2005, 12:34:23 pm Fair dinkum. Don't but the cheap stuff, get the mid to higher priced ones, about 4%abv. The top of the range ones come in at over 6% so be wary and check the label unless you want to spend the weekend in a wheelchair.
PS Serve chilled. Title: Re:Beermountain 2005 - Updated Post by: jpchenet on April 01, 2005, 12:48:17 pm Not so much of a mountain as a mound! I would hasten to add that we didn't start collecting until the Friday afternoon!!

Give it a wek, and it will appear. Any chance of bringing your model one year. Anna is planning to see the 2006 event :D Title: Re:Beermountain 2005 - Updated Post by: Mr Toad on April 01, 2005, 10:17:34 pm Thanks all for your kind words, and for those without incumbent webmasters on their own sites - you have my symapthy!
Robbo - I am sourcing a new model next week - big decision as she will be the "face" of BM for 2005! Will let you know how this goes and if she might be up for coming over (dream mode "off" - no chance!) - there is a new CA member who gave me a hint he might be bringing a couple of Max Power models over - thats what I call a proper job! ;) Title: Re:Beermountain 2005 - Updated Post by: Perdu on April 01, 2005, 11:26:12 pm Mr Toad, a very good 10/10 for the revamped site. Now we know that assistance is not too rigidly frowned upon in BM building we may be able to scale greater heights with ours this year. Do Carrefour provide clear silicone tubes I wonder????
I will try to show a pic of our modest BM but I have never managed to show a pic yet, so fingies crossed...(http://wedoLeMansagain2004 120) its no good I know it will not play I can feel it in me water... ??? Somebody please guide me through this, please Bill Title: Re:Beermountain 2005 - Updated Post by: Perdu on April 01, 2005, 11:28:45 pm B*gger...

Sorry it is so big how do I make them a reasonable size. Er, pictures I mean, nowt else. That is our famous inflateable armchair signed by Mr Needell himself (Thought the bugger was gonna puncture it when he did the full stop at the end.) Bill (less of a boring old failure than usual, wonder which of the two methods I tried did it?) ??? Canada Phil Title: Re:Beermountain 2005 - Updated Post by: Mr Toad on April 02, 2005, 04:37:15 pm Perdu - I reconise that spot - I spent a few happy years near that tree line in the early 90's!! Although we hadn't discovered silicone then. I would be willing to bet they sell it somewhere in Carrefour! PS Nice water pistols too...
Title: Re:Beermountain 2005 - Updated Post by: Perdu on April 03, 2005, 10:47:40 pm Mr Toad, that tree line is part of me now. I sometimes wake up (on the way to the Bog usually) having dreamed I was back there. The water shooters will be returning to Le Mans this year with Stuart, Sean and I. As it says somewhere else, 'carrefour DID provide'. This time though I think we will lay in a few condom grenades for the rogue beach buggy marauders that zapped us just 'cos they liked our campsite and were jealous...
That same corner site a bit enlarged would suit me again this year, have gazebos and a pool to deal with now. Feel free to pop round for a beer or so, anyone. Open Wednesday PM six or seven oclock-ish. Bill :) ooh arr, the sandals will be making their third trip this year. Title: Re:Beermountain 2005 - Updated Post by: skorpio on April 04, 2005, 09:45:33 am This was our [the wife & my] modest first attempt at the BM,
(http://muchos.co.uk/members/skorpio/beermountain.jpg) (http://www.muchos.co.uk) this was also our first {not to be last ;) } visit to LM, our attempt wasn't as good as some, but here again there were only 2 of us drinking towards it ;D :-\ Title: Re:Beermountain 2005 - Updated Post by: Mr Toad on April 04, 2005, 07:12:53 pm Nice one Scorpio, but whats that yellow object in the middle of the wall? Did someone have a bottle of something else altogether? Surely you know that all the bottles need to be the same to avoid the risk of avalanche!
Title: Re:Beermountain 2005 - Updated Post by: Simes on April 04, 2005, 07:23:15 pm Nice one Scorpio, but whats that yellow object in the middle of the wall? Looks like to me they've been 'Twatted' ;D Title: Re:Beermountain 2005 - Updated Post by: skorpio on April 04, 2005, 07:46:31 pm Nice one Scorpio, but whats that yellow object in the middle of the wall? Looks like to me they've been 'tw**tted' ;D Spot on that man ;D ;D ;) Oh and Mr Toad, I read your excellent site with building instructions before our attempt, so our result is a tribute to your goodselves ;) ;D Title: Re:Beermountain 2005 - Updated Post by: Brian(Liverpool boys) on April 22, 2005, 05:31:36 pm Mr T, purchased one of your superb beer mountain T shirts, superb service Sir, ordered Tuesday of this week delivered today, must say it does not look as good on me as it does on the lovely Anikka.
Will wear with pride come June, does this mean I can have a go of your chopper, come in Big H. Cheers. Brian. Title: Re:Beermountain 2005 - Updated Post by: Lorry on April 22, 2005, 11:28:56 pm Keep up the good work Mr T
I'll ask the Captain to pay you a visit Title: Re:Beermountain 2005 - Updated Post by: Mr Toad on April 23, 2005, 06:19:22 pm Brian - glad you liked the shirts! No problems - I'll let you have a spin on "Red 3" my own Mk2 Chopper (as seen below) - perfectly restored & ready for action....
Truck - you are always welcome at Beermountain! Title: Re:Beermountain 2005 - Updated Post by: Perdu on April 23, 2005, 10:20:52 pm Mr Toad, brilliant piece of machinery isn't it?
Seems to be levitating, bet its a handful in a crosswind. I admire anyone that can control this difficult period machinery in "display mode".... Will the formation team be performing at MB or in the town centre on Friday? It seems that our own Chopper "flier" won't be bringing his stable of trusty steeds with him after all (one original Chopper, one new Chopper and the nice little black one for junior chopper riders) The allure of the topless Saab has overridden his wish to take all but the kitchen sink... we will need a new bowl from Carrefour again! :) Bill |
