Title: Classic film tonight Post by: redstu on February 26, 2005, 12:06:45 am Vanishing point
00:30 Saturday morning. ITV1 I remember seeing this years ago and thinking it was a great film. However times move on is it still as good, or will I be as disspointed as when I watched Big Wednesday the other week? Title: Re:Classic film tonight Post by: Canada Phil on February 26, 2005, 02:40:52 am Hi redstu,
This the one you mean ??? Vanishing Point (1971) Kowalski, the hero of the story, works for a car delivery service. He takes delivery of a supercharged 1970 Dodge Challenger to take from Colorado to Frisco, California. Shortly after pickup, he takes a bet to get the car there in less than 15 hours. After a few run-ins with motorcycle cops and highway patrol they start a chase to bring him into custody. Along the way, Kowalski is guided by Supersoul - a blind DJ with a police radio scanner. Throw in lots of chase scenes, gay hitchhikers, a naked woman riding a motorbike, lots of Mopar and you've got a great cult hit from the early 70's. I think there is a more recent version but doubt it is as good. Keep a sharp eye for the naked chicks on motorcycles ;D Yes a bit dated and a lame story but some good scenes as i recall. Enjoy. There goes the challenger being chased by the blue blue meanies on wheels The vicious traffic squad cars are after our lone driver The last American hero The-the electric sintar The demi-God, the super driver of the Golden West! Two nasty Nazi cars are close behind the beautiful lone driver The police cars are getting closer-closer... Closer to our soul hero in his soul mobile, yeah baby! They about to strike, they gonna get him, smash! rape! The last beautiful free soul on this planet But... it is written if the evil spirit arms the tiger with claws Brahman provided wings for the dove Thus spake the super guru"* Title: Re:Classic film tonight Post by: chrisbeatty on February 28, 2005, 12:30:46 pm Well I didn't realise it was on until I got in a bit pissed & started watching TV. I'd seen the ending before (which spoilt it a bit :-\) but it's a decent film never the less, all the better for the naked chick on a bike ;)
<pointless trivia> The film was also the inspiration for some of the Primal Scream album Vanishing Point </pointless trivia> Title: Re:Classic film tonight Post by: Steve TTTD on February 28, 2005, 02:32:02 pm More pointless trivia...
Even though Kowalski drives a white Challenger all through the film. Th crash sequence, where he puts the car into the bulldozers, was done with a '68 Camaro. Title: Re:Classic film tonight Post by: Steve Pyro on February 28, 2005, 03:19:57 pm ... was done with a '68 Camaro. Which are ten a penny - understandable really ;) Title: Re:Classic film tonight Post by: Steve TTTD on February 28, 2005, 03:36:43 pm Every trailer park has them like a rash
