Title: BEAUSEJOUR CAMPSITE Post by: smuudge on February 10, 2005, 11:46:08 pm hi guys, finally got confirmation of our campsite and theyve stuck us in BEAUSEJOUR. We wanted Camping Houx!
Anyone familiar with this site? We have a large motorhome that we are taking this year and just wondering if this site accomodates them ok... cheers. Title: Re:BEAUSEJOUR CAMPSITE Post by: Paddy_NL on February 11, 2005, 12:04:12 am Sure, we were there last year. If you are to get there early and there's space, park up against the trees on the left hand side to have a lie-in in the mornings. Get your own food as local (fish&)chips are horrible and mega-expensive. As far as I understood BSJ has the best toilet/shower facilities in the whole of camping at LeMans, no electric hook-up though.
Bring your push bikes!! Porsche curve is at least a ten minute walk, and the pit lane is a fair 30 minute walk. For the rest it's a clean, widely spread campingsite. Great atmosphere (like all the other campings), all nationalities represented there. Should be reasonably quiet as we've got MB-tickets this year. Title: Re:BEAUSEJOUR CAMPSITE Post by: smuudge on February 11, 2005, 01:12:45 am Great thanks. Sounds like it could be a good result after all, was abit concerned about its location etc, but i think my petrol scooters going to come in handy!
As far as a electrical hook-up is concerned im sure we will be able to get by with the reserve batteries and giving them a top every so often. (has anyone used generators before for power? are they adequate, reliable economical etc?) We are arriving on Wednesday prior so we want to be comfortable for the stay! Does anyone also have a map pin-pointing where BEAUSEJOUR is exactly? Cheers.Ben. Title: Re:BEAUSEJOUR CAMPSITE Post by: Paddy_NL on February 11, 2005, 01:18:22 am As for power supply, it's probably best to get one of those cheap generators, you can pick one up for about 65 quid nowardays. Especially as you want to arrive on Wednesday, that's too many days to live on a car battery.
Here's a map>> BSJ is at the bottom. As you can see your scooters are definitely handy! (http://server2.uploadit.org/files/paddyNL-LMkaartje.jpg) Title: Re:BEAUSEJOUR CAMPSITE Post by: skorpio on February 11, 2005, 01:24:49 am We were there last year too, good clean (for Le Mans apparently) site, toilets were, as Paddy_NL says, clean and tidy at all times, we had a great time down there, helped by the peeps we met ;) quite a few as we were very close to the 2nd toilet/wash unit.
Down side is the distance to anywhere, get some walking shoes and a shoulder cool bag [take your beer with you then] you'll regret it if you don't ;) What sort of size battery you using for liesure? We found that a small solar panel kept ours well charged, that was a 75 Ah battery ;) Check out on the general forum, there's a map on there under useful info, or something like that ;) Title: Re:BEAUSEJOUR CAMPSITE Post by: Paddy_NL on February 11, 2005, 10:36:23 am If you are to get there early and there's space, park up against the trees on the left hand side to have a lie-in in the mornings. We were on the right-hand side of BSJ, as you can see there's plenty of space. Here are those trees I was referring to>> (http://server2.uploadit.org/files/PaddyLM-beausejour.jpg) And Beausejour goes on, and on, and there doesn't seem to be an end to the site :) (http://server3.uploadit.org/files/PaddyLM-beausejour2.jpg) Title: Re:BEAUSEJOUR CAMPSITE Post by: jpchenet on February 11, 2005, 10:41:33 am Bloody hell!!! Title: Re:BEAUSEJOUR CAMPSITE Post by: Paddy_NL on February 11, 2005, 10:43:39 am I think that's one of those pre-war Renault vans :-\
Title: Re:BEAUSEJOUR CAMPSITE Post by: Bobblehat on February 11, 2005, 04:07:50 pm smuudge, its a good site its just a long walk to the village thats all.
Going to miss the Drinking for Holland lot, had a particualy wierd conversation with two of them on a small (ish) mound of earth on the inside of the Porshe Curves about Henicken beer not being brewed in the UK anymore. Well at least I think that was the gist of it. Bobblehat Racing will be there from Wednesday, come for a beer. Title: Re:BEAUSEJOUR CAMPSITE Post by: Jay (Team Cannonball) on February 11, 2005, 04:14:53 pm Team Cannonball are also gonna sample Beausjour for the first time. It may be a bit further away but Le Mans is always what you and the folks you go with make it.
Title: Re:BEAUSEJOUR CAMPSITE Post by: Russ on February 11, 2005, 04:27:10 pm 3 words...
Mountain Bikes, Mountain Bikes, Mountain Bikes OK, so it's 6... but the point is, we take one each (5 of us) and we're in Houx Annexe. They are an absolute must if you're in Beausejour, and even though we're much closer to the action in HA, we wouldn't be without them. Excellent for a trip into Le Mans on Friday afternoon to catch the drivers parade. If, of course, you are anable to take them with you, I'm sure the likes of Gilles will be able to direct you to a local cylce hire establishment? Title: Re:BEAUSEJOUR CAMPSITE Post by: Gilles on February 11, 2005, 04:44:01 pm I think that's one of those pre-war Renault vans :-\ No it's a post-war Peugeot van, probably a J7 form the early 70's Title: Re:BEAUSEJOUR CAMPSITE Post by: Andy Zarse on February 11, 2005, 05:32:05 pm I think that's one of those pre-war Renault vans :-\ No it's a post-war Peugeot van, probably a J7 form the early 70's Correct Gilles, it's either a J7 or a J9, as you say, early 70's vintage. I prefer the old J4A myself. You're getting good at this old van lark! Title: Re:BEAUSEJOUR CAMPSITE Post by: smuudge on February 11, 2005, 07:04:06 pm Fantastic advice from you all as usual, thanks! Weve hired a 6birth motor home so im going to accomodate some mountain bikes in the line up aswell as a petrol scooter (currently £99 on ebay!) will definately drop in for a pint if i see any familiar signs/faces in BEAUSEJOUR...really looking forward to it. Back to the fold after a 5 year break.....come on the DB9Rs!!
Title: Re:BEAUSEJOUR CAMPSITE Post by: Paddy_NL on February 12, 2005, 12:52:56 pm more Beausejour-impressions via Drinking for Holland (http://www.drinkingforholland.nl/fotoos/lemans2004/index.htm) ;)
Title: Re:BEAUSEJOUR CAMPSITE Post by: Rhino on February 13, 2005, 01:21:49 am i have a warm feeling about BJS this year. As long as you have bikes, this will be a good site.
Title: Re:BEAUSEJOUR CAMPSITE Post by: Paddy_NL on February 15, 2005, 11:56:12 pm Going to miss the Drinking for Holland lot, had a particualy wierd conversation with two of them on a small (ish) mound of earth on the inside of the Porshe Curves about Henicken beer not being brewed in the UK anymore. Well at least I think that was the gist of it. Please do come over to MB if you have the time for another one of those cold draft beers, Bobblehat :)I hope for you guys that earth-bump at the Porsche Curve will still be there, but fear the worst as that construction-work might be finished by now. Maybe it's worth for you guys to try and bring a small ladder to get on the roofs of the buildings completed. Especially during Wednesday and Thursday eavening you might stand a big chance getting away with it... Good luck & have fun! Title: Re:BEAUSEJOUR CAMPSITE Post by: smuudge on February 16, 2005, 12:24:56 am is there something i should know about the Porsche curves!!?
Title: Re:BEAUSEJOUR CAMPSITE Post by: Paddy_NL on February 16, 2005, 12:59:58 am is there something i should know about the Porsche curves!!? No mate, you shouldn't worry.Have another look at the map I posted. The spectators side of the Porsche Curve you will find on the left hand side of the track, on the very bottom of the map I posted. This section is a sort of elevated slopy-grass bump and is okay for viewing (general entrance tickets required). Bring seats and food/drinks as there are barely any facilities there. The section I was referring to is the white spot between the actual track and the green square called BSJ. On that spot there was some sort of building ground last year, pretty obvious they were gonna build something there. It's also on that spot where there was an earthy-bump which gave a sort of an okay view, especially in the eavenings. We were allowed up to the guard rail during the yellow-flag situation when McNish and Letho crashed there last year 8) Title: Re:BEAUSEJOUR CAMPSITE Post by: Canada Phil on February 18, 2005, 08:44:58 am is there something i should know about the Porsche curves!!? Especially during Wednesday and Thursday eavening you might stand a big chance getting away with it... Good luck & have fun! Sounds like a fine idea - add to list step ladder (I never new my real ladder ::) ) - but I would guess, like the rest of the track, the roofs will coverd in razor wire and the like. As for the beer, a cold would go down a treat! See you there I think Rhino is right, its going to be a good year down on BSJ.......................... I saw the red circle on your map - just checking you know that there is a small earth bank down there for spectating from - some groups build behind it and I think the view is good - it's about c4m high?
If you are, it's great news for us because we camp at the other end of that track in the direction of the grandstands, and I thought I would have to move this year as we would not be able to see anything behind your tower! Anyway see you there, and I'll pack earplugs just in case! Mr T, MB Bog Block Triangle Residents Association Title: Re:BEAUSEJOUR CAMPSITE Post by: knetter on February 21, 2005, 01:01:53 pm Is that 4 meters high? If so, I think we will plan for another location. Our scaffolding will be about 2,5 meters high, so we need a space with a clear line of sight to the track. Either that or we need to build a higher grandstand!
Knetter (dfh crew) Title: Re:BEAUSEJOUR CAMPSITE Post by: Paddy_NL on February 21, 2005, 06:48:40 pm Hiya Mr Toad, thanks for your hospitality :)
Like my mate Knetter remarks, what does that c4m mean?! Looks like we're best off to the PQ's aswell. Just in case... :-\ Title: Re:BEAUSEJOUR CAMPSITE Post by: Mr Toad on February 21, 2005, 07:38:06 pm I think its about 4 meters high - some guys park a small bus there and the top is the right height for a good track view.
The problem with the MB campsite is the the trackside front portion is limited to a very thin strip except where you suggested going (the bank is in front of you) or where Beermountain goes higher up. Higher up the problem is that they don't put up the safety fence until around Wed/Thu, so you could have to remove the tower altogether...sorry not to sound more positive, but I get the impression you have a big set up so should know. If you used to camp opposite us in KN campsite - did you not have a 2/3 level tower with a bar at the bottom? - if this was you it would be a good height to go where you are planning! Hope that helps. If you take our spot can I come and watch from your tower?! Mr T, Bog Triangle Residents Association, MB Campsite Title: Re:BEAUSEJOUR CAMPSITE Post by: Paddy_NL on February 21, 2005, 07:52:21 pm Thanks an awfull lot for your help Mr. Toad.
I've been a bit stupid all along, only just tonight discovering photo's on your website showing exactly what you just described. photo (http://www.beermountain.com/PC1.jpg) Like I said before, I hope not to take anybody's place, but if I would (by accident) take your place, then you're definitely more than welcome to come and have a cold Heineken from our draftmachine! Lots more work to do now, we're gonna have to double the size of our scaffolding (in height that is). Cheers mate ! ;) Title: Re:BEAUSEJOUR CAMPSITE Post by: smokie on February 21, 2005, 08:47:25 pm Aha. I remember that green inflatable sofa in the foreground, don't you gab?
We sat on it for the start of the race - the bloody thing slowly deflated, and getting my bulky frame out of it and back down the scaffold was a distinctly scary experience - but well worth it. :) Title: Re:BEAUSEJOUR CAMPSITE Post by: gab on February 22, 2005, 06:59:54 am I remember Smokie, I also remember how hot that plastic couch got after about one hour in the sun and also how hard it was to get out of it after 50% deflation and a couple of cold ones.
Title: Re:BEAUSEJOUR CAMPSITE Post by: Mr Toad on February 22, 2005, 07:30:30 pm Smokie - I thought I was sitting on it with Mr Disco at the start of the race? - maybe you were thinking of qualifying? What nice people Mark & Tracey are!

Title: Re:BEAUSEJOUR CAMPSITE Post by: Paddy_NL on March 30, 2005, 11:13:40 pm Don't know Jack about Tetre Rouge, except for the bar/restaurant in which I had something to eat back in '93. But back then I was an innocent continental truck driver who was happily surprised by the wall paintings and photos, having a Routiers-dinner ;)
Title: Re:BEAUSEJOUR CAMPSITE Post by: smuudge on March 31, 2005, 12:53:48 am Gents, does the movement of the allotments mean there is now, no good viewing point near to Beausjour? Just wondering if its worth taking some height adjusters/stilts or a portable grandstand thats all, im getting depressed by the thought of a 30minute + walk everytime i want to see some racing! :'(
Title: Re:BEAUSEJOUR CAMPSITE Post by: Paddy_NL on March 31, 2005, 01:18:51 am Smuudge>> the walk to Porsche shouldn't take more than five mins from the BSJ 'gate'. It's just last years' earthy bump that gave us a sort of vision to the sound we had during Wednesday and Thursday practices.
I thought it was worth mentioning to people like Bobblehat who were there last year. Picture above is literately between BSJ & Porsche. The detour to the spectators site you had to take anyway, we're still not allowed to cross the track. :( Title: Re:BEAUSEJOUR CAMPSITE Post by: Bobblehat on April 02, 2005, 01:56:10 am So now we know, what we were all standing on was a heap of lome, or worse!
Well if it is allotments - what veg or fruit is fresh in June??!!! Come to think of it, the foundations and service channels looked a hell of a lot better than what we get at BSJ. So if Gilles knows anyone who has one of those sheds, could we come to some arrangement? ;) |
