Title: Is it any good?
Post by: BigH on January 16, 2005, 11:26:15 am
Perhaps some of the people on this forum can help me out with a bit of advice.
Last May I ordered 5 tickets for the Maison Blanche camp site. I have just received my allocation from the ACO, and they have given me 25 tickets for Abu Ghraib.
Does anyone know what this is like? Are there any toilets or running water. How far is it to the main area. Is there any entertainment?
H

H, I've heard it's a bit of a trek to get to the village and that the old dust can get a bit much when the wind picks up.

Not sure about water but I've heard there are plenty of electric points!!

Hopefully you will be able to shift these on a face value ;)

Very interesting choice Mr H.
Last year the ACO sent me tickets for Camping Guantanamo.

Initially I was a bit concerned as this was not the site I had requested.  However, once I had set up the chip van, I found I did a roaring trade.  Those camped around me commented that they hadn't had a good piece of fillet for quite a few months and I was pleasantly surprised when they wanted to see my battered sausage.

I was, however, a bit put off by the facilities.  The toilets were rather primitive, being a basic cess pool, and the on-site security seemed to be a bit over the top.

However, I had plenty of willing volunteers lining up to handle my spuds so it all worked out well in the end.

When I phoned up the ACO recently to request this campsite again the ladies sounded a bit surprised and puzzled, especially when I mentioned the goon towers.
I think they misunderstood my Grimsby accent as they offered me Camping Beausejour.  I said "no way am I camping there, it's like a prison camp". >:(

So I'm on the waiting list like everyone else  :'(

You should be OK, I have never stayed there myself but some chaps from the local cab company spent a few weeks there a while back.

The good news is there is a bus to the main gate (look out for men with very big belts, they spell trouble)

The other problem can be a few Yanks sometimes get tanked up and stuff a carrot up your arse.

Beer is not allowed.

Paddy, a couple of us met up to discuss our plans for Sebring last night and we got to thinking!

Are you by any chance the guy we met up with at The Classic this year??

No mate, sorry there. The only other venue (besides LM) I attended was Spa's 1000kms in '04. Wish I could visit more races :(

Here's me at the beach today, with son and dog (tackey enough?)
(so you know who to ask for a cold pint of Heineken at MB in June :D)
