Title: Re:Anorak test Post by: Kpy on May 27, 2003, 09:08:07 am In that case it is same year & Peter Collins! ;D That,s the cat out of the bag then ! 1957 - Peter Collins, Ferrari 335 M. In the background, No 1 Moss (/Schell) Maserati 450S Zagato Coupe and No 2 Behra (/Simon) Maserati 450S Spyder. All three cars retired: Collins' engine let go after only 2 laps and the car was the second official retirement. The Moss/Schell car was in Stirling's words "diabolical" - it was difficult to start (see photo), filled with heat and fumes and retired with u/j fairure after 32 laps (5hrs). The Behra/ Simon was out by that time (accident/ split fuel tank after 28 laps and 3 hours). So quite why the ACO put the photo of three failures on the cover of the 1958 programme is a mystery!! Or maybe not - Jaguar D Types came 1-2-3-4 and 6th in 1957!!! Title: Re:Anorak test Post by: Gilles on May 27, 2003, 09:15:20 am >:( it's not the picture of the cover of the program, it's the picture selected to illustrate the 2-pages article inside the program written by Rodney Walkerley who was journalist at The Motor.
In 58 they mentioned the fact that "we welcome an ever increasing colony of English-speaking enthusiasts" Title: Re:Anorak test Post by: Gilles on May 27, 2003, 09:17:15 am In that case it is same year & Peter Collins! ;D Sorry I passed on your answer :-\ :D So you're right and you win a (plastc) glass of champagne at the champagne bar saturday evening ! :D Title: Re:Anorak test Post by: Mr. Rick on May 27, 2003, 10:58:26 am Thanks Gilles! I will try my hardest to remember to turn up this year!!
