How about a restored Austin J40? I had one of these when I was a kid and thought it was great.

Mind you it probably was a lot better than most other Austin products of it's day, even though it was assembled by disabled Welsh miners rehabilitating under a doctors' supervision  ;)

You were lucky, when I was a kid we were so poor I had to make do with a cardboard box cellotaped to a couple of old rusty roller-skates for a car, but I was grateful for it. Not like these namby pamby spoiled brats today who get every thing easy. Life was hard when I was young, but do you know what ? I'm a much better person for it. Kids today, they don't know they are bloody born. BAH

Cellotape? You had cellotape (sellotape!) Sheer luxury! We had to make do with the wheels made from old processed cheese triangle boxes, stolen from the bins at the back of t'squire's kitchens, stuck on with spit! And we didn't have the cardboard box.....

Carboard! We had to eat the carbord so we could get some spit, wich we would have to use to loosen the coal down pit. As for games, PHA! A game to us was waking up in the morning and not being dead!!! You had it so easy........

Luxury................

When I was a kid ..............
An abandoned (well ..... maybe pinched ) orange crate mounted on a discarded 2 x 4 piece of wood (can't say lumber it was so junky ) put together with nails gathered over weeks and made straight by banging them on the sidewalk with a brick, then attaching discarded metal roller skates that normally would attach to your shoes using a 'skate key', and came in two pieces which we separated and put one half of the skate on the front of the 2 x 4 and the other half of the skate on the rear of the 2 x 4 and then race them.
Tape of any kind was unheard of then but boy we had plenty of cardboard and plenty of spit.
