Title: Brittany ferries
Post by: Barry on October 21, 2004, 12:08:36 pm
Brittany ferries web site is now able to give quotes and take bookings for next June. :) :) :)

Have obtained quotes for the same crossings as I did last year ( allowing for the changed date ), and prices seem to be DOWN on last year. 8) 8) 8)

Checked quotes for a summer holiday trip in August, they also seem to be down.

Vive les Francais  ;D ;D ;D

Ouch! :o

4 different quotes I got were all about 5% down, must be down to popularity of times and ports ???
Still paying £177 for motorbike + 1 person though.

If anyone is using Dover/Calais and wants a bargain price, £50 for car and 4 people PM me, don't want to advertise it to much in case offer has limited availability.

Just had a quote for car+trailer+4 people, out Wed back Monday, £392.

Cost us £259 for P&O, same days, on fastcraft last year.

As it's the last time I will ever cross the Channel in June, I'll have to pay.

You're right JP, if we go to Deauville, realistically, what are the chances of us being at Caen at 08.00? So I've just changed the booking to come home on Monday at 17.00. And I've saved £45 off the fare!

That'll be an intresting aroma on the ship then :), or is someone on MB taking a washer-dryer with them this year ;)

No need for a washer/drier, head straight for the aftershave testers in the duty free. Dust, sweat and BBQ fumes mixed with the heady aroma of "Chanel Por Homme". Pompey immigration get your NCB suits ready.

Why?

Quote

Smokie, I got fed up with the ferry companies' ever increasing prices.

Actually, about 4 weeks after the race, I am retiring to France, either to Charente or Limousin, so I will only have a 200 mile (French) road trip to worry about every June.  Will also be able to make pre-quals as well.

Will be able to make some money doing Plonker Ecclestone impersonations!

So you can stuff Blair and Brown up where the sun don't shine - I've had my fill of them and a lot more things about the UK!!!!

Beermountain main crew will be ex Pompey bound for Caen on the Wed evening tide with Brittany. God forbid anyone in the cabin next to Mr Disco - I'm going on a different boat altogether...

Stop press - Swiss has given me a full time employee to handle set up and bar duties for our base next year - how cool is that? Mr T

Del - smart mvoe. I would be not far behind you if only I had 1) a bit more dosh and 2) a more enthusiastic partner (in more ways than one!). But being nowhere near (well, not too near!) retirement age, I need to work a few more years before it becomes a reality.

I'd be interested to have a chat at LM about the practical side of buying etc

Surely something so serious should be discussed when you are sober!!!!   ;)

Only if you are intending staying sober when you are en residence...

I was in Leuven (Belgium) at the weekend. Europe is so much more, well, cool. Driving is good. Bars were open till the last person leaves (often 7 am on Fri or Sat apparently).  Everyone speak my lingo. Beer, washing powder , fags and windscreen wipers are cheap. What more could a man want?

Wish I knew you were going - would have asked you to get some baccy!!

I'm sure we can find a reasonably sober period on MB to have a chat re buying in France.  I have done a lot of research, and you're welcome to pick my brains.  We were all set to go house-hunting early July, but the day before we sailed, I slipped a disc in my back, and we decided to put it off for a year.  Regarding retirement, I've got the big six-oh next year and want to retire, but can't afford to in the UK, hence the move to France.  I just love the laid-back way of life in France - discounting, of course, a particular w/e in June in La Sarthe!!
