Title: Mind your firkin language
Post by: Matt Harper on October 05, 2004, 07:39:18 pm
Not at all Le Mans related and maybe will never make the news in Britain, but Dale Earnhardt Jr has just been fined $10,000 and had his points lead in The Nextel Cup scrubbed, because he used a little industrial language in the post race interview scrum at Talladega on Sunday. When asked to comment on his 5the Talladega win he said on live TV, "It don't mean sh*t to me, my daddy wone here 11 times. It's the points that are important to us today".
Bear in mind that he had just got out of the car, was probably fairly pumped, as the win had put him into the championship lead and was being mobbed by his crew and the NASCAR media.
I'm not a huge fan of Little E, but I think that the faceless arsehole who imposed this (the points deduction - let's face it $10K to Earnhardt is chump-change), should try blasting around the Alabama tri-oval for a couple of hours at 200mph - and see if he's a little wired at the end of it.
Does NASCAR (or anyone else, for that matter) seriously think that any fans are going to be offended by some good ol' boy loosing-off an "S-Bomb", seconds after clambering out of his car, having won a race in which the tenth placed car crossed the finishing line on it's roof!
What a set of w**k*rs

Hey Matt,
I saw that on the news at lunch, I about sh*t! (whoops! fine me Smokie!)  As you said the fine is chump-change but the twenty five points could end up costing him the title.  Holy sh*t! (There I go again dammit!)  I can see the appeals and lawsuits coming...
NASCAR just opened a big can of sh*t! Ahhhh...
John

Nothing wrong with a guy showing a bit of passion and relief at winning. A fine maybe, But points, NO.

Well said Matt, I too have my thoughts on this stupid matter. Earlier this evening I sent an e mail to a fellow Nascar fan in Swansea. Below is what I put down on the subject in the e mail.

sh*t, god damn, f**k !

Oh I am sorry, please don't fine me $10,000 and deduct 25 points from my Pick Six score !

Nascar sucks and needs to grow up, if they think anyone is offended by the word sh*t. For christ's sake we all do one at least once a day !

Man they would have a field day if they started to fine the drivers for what they are saying over the car to pit radios that people in the grandstands are sat listening in on with scanners ! That we get to hear on NASN when the Yanks are on ad breaks.

What do they want, robots with no character.

If I was Dale Jnr, next time I win a race, I would get out of the car and say "I won the race". Then say absolutely nothing else to the reporters. That way Nascar can not say he didn't engage in the mandatory post race interview, so they could not fine him again and Nascar would be real pissed off that their star driver isn't playing ball anymore, and giving interviews to the TV.

Regards
Chris

Make no mistake, the people who run NASCAR (the France family, Mike Helton, etc.) are every bit as greedy a collection of SOB's as Bernie as his cronies.  Junior has become their golden goose and they don't want his image tarnished for a second.  Personally I don't care much for the little dickhead.  He has a reputation for being a spoiled brat and he's dumber than a box of rocks.  If his daddy's name wasn't Earnhardt he'd be working in a McDonalds drive thru asking if you would like to super-size that order.  When I spoke to some of the sportscar guys at Daytona back in Feb, they didn't have much nice to say about him.  But the 25 points is way stupid...

I know it's an old one and been on here several times before, but maybe Dale should team up with Buffy the Touretts Slayer?

...just a bit worried that Chris24 thinks that some people may only have one s@@t a day.
Surely everybody does at least one slurry, one firm and one pile stinger every day.
