Wishy

Good day mate, sorry we never ran into you. Had a good time though nonetheless. It's a viscious rumour that I was on the pop by 9. It was after ten before I started and even then, it was only one harmless glass of chilled apple juice (cider).  Barry and H will testify that I had the kettle on overdrive that morning. Anyway, my drinking was very restrained and I only became "slightly giddy" by late saturday night. I was never in danger of becoming "over-refreshed". Unlike some folk I could mention....

Thought the racing was fantastic, were very impressed by the Zytec team's effort, less so when I found I was stuck behind about twenty of their number in the queue for the bar! The Audi's rrmain an impressively reliable piece of kit, but pleased to see some of the others are starting to have the legs on 'em.

I must concur with Wishy, it was a good day Saturday. The Audis were predictably dominant and I suppose deserved to win. I was encouraged to see them get some competition earlier on in the race from Robbie Kerr in the Zytek though, before running into problems not necessarily of their own making. Looks promising for the future.

As for the Lister Wishy- it must take ther accolade for being the ugliest of all sportscars.

Hopefully those who stayed over for the GT races on Sunday did not experience too much in the way of rain etc.

Good also to meet a few more names that post regularly on this forum.

Top weekend!

Thanks & hugs to: Team Zarse for the fantastic commer hospitality, Ernie Ecclestone for organising things, my co-partner in crime, Petrol Slut, for co-partnering criminally, VB-H for nearly being our mate in the press centre, team Goh for the personal pit stop, and God for the almost rain free weekend.

Again again again!

Err, just a correction.

J Herbert finished 3rd, not second. The Goh Audi was second

Hi all - a good weekend indeed!
Tres Hombres well represented - good to meet a few of you over by the track and I am soooo impressed by that Commer Van I want one. (No not really- I've nowhere to put it)
Particularly impressed by the Classic Endurance race particularly he 908 on the limit in corners. Bit dissapointed by the 917 though which seemed to be suffering from some problem or other.

We were visited at about midnight on Saturday by 5 mechanics from the 63 Corvette team in the British GT race. They arrived on a pit tyre transporter looking for a party but had to make do with us! Still they brought beer and gave all the kids a ride around the Track (until security attempted citizens arrests on them all)

They gave us a grand tour of the car in the paddock on Sunday morning. Respect guys - even if the car is a bit of a shed!

Steve

It was a really good race, and think Mr Kerr will be well worth looking out for. Thought Herbert seemed to accept third pretty easily, did he have some sort of problem? And I think I saw some Club members, what's with the gnome??

Excellent day out, looking forward to the Zytek getting a bit of luck and really challanging the Audi's, LM  2005 prehaps?
Would like to confirm that Mr A Zarse was on softs not pops when we arrived at 9am, and was not seen drinking till about 10, although we were offered a cider at 9.10 by another member of the commer party, who will remain nameless. Declined till we got the tent up, about 9.20 then. ;D
Good to meet a lot of Club Arnagers, t-shirts very effective once again.
Jo enjoyed her first 'modern' motor race, was worth the blisters caused by walking round the circuit in sandels :o, first lesson learnt then, bring sensible shoes. ;D
Won't be at Goodwood, so unless any of you are going to the last BSB at Donnington in september see you all at a southern planning meeting or at LM 2005.

 ;DCracking Weekend! ;D

So many things about it that can't be faulted:

Our parking/camping spot was almost right on the circuit, perched on a small bank on the infield next to Maggotts - amazing view from the roof of the commer.

Top company - provided, in the most part, by the Petrolslutz (top chamonning ladies) - was good to see Barry & Jo, Lord Steve, Ian & Thomas, BIG/little Hs, plus lots more, I'm sure.

The racing was superb. Go Zytek! Quality Escort Mexico hammering round with the classics - it blew up as it went past the commer, but still had a podium place!

As for value for money, what can you say? 10 races, that's 10 races (3 of which were 1 hour long, 1 was 5.5 hours long) plus warm ups, plus qualifying, plus 2 nights camping, plus free entertainment (allbeit sh!te entertainment) for £28 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;D ;D ;D

If you missed it, go next year. You won't regret it.

If there is a next year of course.  My concern is that there were so few spectators for the 1000Km that the organisers will look at the atendance figures and conclude 'stuff this, it's not economic'. They obviously tried hard and made an effort to provide 'entertainment' for those camping overnight, presumably to try and conjure up a bit of the magic that is La Sarthe in June.

Let's hope for our sake they persevere with it and give it a chance. It could be REALLY good. To those that have friends that missed out - spread the word.

It's a shame they didn't make much of an effort to publicise it.

My sentiments with Pretzel Mr.Brown abnd of course MR.Zarse!!!!

This should have been advertised on TV as well as the motoring journals......after all 80,000 of us generally got to Le Sarthe. It is a shame that we cannot support our local races in the same numbers!!!!!.

The piccy of the grandstand must have been taken after the race ......cos at least 100 people in the Pit Straight Grandstand during the race.

If it werte Le Mans then 50% of the ACO Grandstand would have been Brits on the day.

it was taken at 9.00 am, but the stand didn't fill up much

anyway we had a fabulous day made all the better by the accessibility of the teams.

so just a big thanks to all those who made one little lads day and allowed him to play with the cars and the software on the lap tops

Hi Steve,

Yes you have a good point.

There were a couple of full page ads in Autocar magazine in the preceding weeks, but I wouldn't have thought that the majority of thier readership gave a toss about sportscar racing. Can't comment on other more specialist motoring media though. (As for other 'specialist' publications well they're very interesting but have nothing to do with cars  :))

In the end though there are a lot of Brits that go to La Sarthe not out of response to advertising but out of tradition and word of mouth. They are the sort of people who would know about the LMES events anyway. It was certainly a disappointment not to see more spectators.
