I think the chassis and engines have be ALMOST the same. I have never seen a Prodrive Ferrari on the road!

The Prodrive ferrari is a GTS car not a GT which the Aston will be unless i'm very much mistaken

I may be very much mistaken  :-[

I hope it is a GTS car  ;D but could have sworn it was going to be a GT  ???

if you read the press release rather than just look at the pretty pictures it says:

Aston Martin Racing will also make a very limited number of DBR9 racing cars available to selected customers. These cars will be prepared to the same specification as the Works cars.

so i guess they are selling it

The picture is an impression of what the road version could look like, note road wheels, no roll bars, comfy seats etc.

For a picture of the real racer we may have to wait a bit longer.

A bit more info on this project.

While the concept is well advanced the car may not. Ford are not allowing Aston Martin to put any money into the project (odd when you consider the wheelbarrows full that Jaguar have for F1).

So unless Prodrive have set up a deal in the same way the original 550 was funded via Mr Luc or funded by a title sponsor, not easy these days in GT's, the car may remain a pretty picture.

Some people believe that the press release was an attempt to force peoples hand.

Should the car make it to the track, in 2005 the car will out of the Prodrive team in selected LMES & ALMs race's including LM.

After that the european team is most likely to be Dave Price Racing.

I spoke to the Marketing Manager for Pro Drive at Farnborough.

He told me 10 cars will be built , 2 works, 1 test, 7 customer spec.

The car is in pieces , but should be in some form of shape in a few months.

I have been offered a factory visit, and will take him up on the offer , in a few months.

It is going to happen.

Crash.Net have just released piccys of the Aston DBR9.

Can't wait to see them knock those Corvettes & Ferraris for six.

In other semi-related news apparently Brundle & Blundell are talking about racing together back at LM, hopefully in one of these with Herbert maybe? Just to prove old men can drive quickly? ;)

The car was briefly featured on Top Gear last night (7th Nov).

The Stig didn't get a go though ;)

They proberbly didn't let the Stig have a go because Clarkeson slagged off GT racing as boring. Self opinionated, smug tosser that's what he is.

Quick question - why the blanket in the grill in some of the pit pics?

Quick question - why the blanket in the grill in some of the pit pics?

To keep the air intake hamsters warm of course!

It's a new aerodynamic theory seen for the first time here. They can be trained to scutter to either side of the intake depending on what sort of corner is coming up, just like in sidecar racing. Amazing isn't it? Why did no-one think of this before?

Apparently, the variation in airflow almost doubles the aerodynamic effect produced previously.

And they say that Britain is losing its motorsport engineering edge! Tsk!

Sorry Gilles. That was a deliberate attempt to wind you up!! French guys are much less shy about taking a leak by the side of the road than the Brits, who hide in the bushes to conceal their shrimp and two peas.
So far as the rally goes, I may or may not have Smokey as navigator, BUT I am coming. Je l'attends avec impatience. Please send me another entry form and I'll return it.

According to the AM press link, it's a GT car.
Looks a bit trick for GT, looks more like a GTS.
Anybody know for sure which it is?

Here's the scoop.  It will compete in GT1, formerly GTS.  Its debut will be at the 2005 12 Hours of Sebring.  Check out www.sebringraceway.com and take a look at the latest news.

It's definately GTS, according to Motorsport News today.  They also show some news pics of car as well.  2 shakedown tests have already been completed, at Millbrook & Snetterton.  Unfortunately, engine glitches curtailed testing.
Apparently, it's reported that Brundle & Blundell will be paired for Le Mans in 2006, in a team run by David Price.  They also plan to do the 2006 FIA GT Championship.  Sounds good. :)

I'm sure Johnny will be there too. Looks like he's trying to secure a drive in the second Champion R8 next year.

Wohoo!  We have a big 'ole party in the works...
Andrew, JP! Get your asses over here! Critchett, I've been after you for a few years now to take in a race in the colonies.  Sebring's a superb choice, more shits & giggles stuffed in to a couple of days, this side of the Sarthe.  Phil right on, Aston Martin can talk the talk, but can they walk the walk (or more importantly, stay on the Vette's ass).  Don't forget, the Prodrive Ferrari's are now in privateer hands as well.  Looks like GT1 is going to be where the war's at.

Fax, I'm sold. Have been for many years. 05 could well be the year I finally make it. The Aston debut will be a bonus over a 'refreshing' weekend with you and the Harpers. Will be checking out Flights this afternoon.

Anyone else planning a northern / Manchester departure?
