Title: Campsite Info
Post by: Robbo SPS on July 08, 2004, 06:17:56 pm
I am just trying to add the last few un-pulished pages to the sps site.

Between the crew , we have expereience of some of the sites, but not all.

I am hoping that the members can assist with how they rate the sites.

We need info on

Chappell

Interior Musee

Tetre Rouge

Mulsanne Corner

Indi / Arnage Corner

P16 - Does this still exist , or is it still in use ?

we have scored 4 attributes out of maximum 10,

Location
Atmosphere
Toilet Facilities
Water Points / electric Availablity / Shower Facilities

Then we have added a few lines about how to get there, who else is there, good points and bad points.

Also if you have ANY photos of the sites that would help. Then we shall be able to have a great mutli function map for everyone to use

Many thanks

Robbo

Hi Robbo
We used Chappelle for three years in early 90's - like a lot of sites, probably changed a bit since then, but....

Location: Infield of 24hrs circuit, sandwiched between Dunlop Bridge area and Bugatti circuit.
Atmosphere: Was always friendly, good mix of nationalities - all motorhome/RV parking. Very noisy, being so close to the track. Constant foot traffic through the site, as it's the main thoroughfare to Garage Vert and Houx Annexe - problematic as the site is used as a convenient 'field toilet' by those passing through. Much of the site is not level (not good if you're in an RV) and it's very dusty, if it's dry.
Typical concrete-like ground - you need a 'lecky screwdriver to drive in tent pegs.
Toilet Facilities: Basic - and used by the whole world - so nasty after day 1.
Facilities: Plenty of stand-pipes, no electrical hook-up (then) and no showers - but as it's intended to be an RV park, not too important.

Footnote: site entrance is slightly tricky, first time you use it (not easy to find).
Pro - Convenient stumble back to your tent/motorhome. Close to the action.
Con - Uneven ground, ridiculously loud, too much passing foot traffic. Smells of piss on Sunday morning!

Great site robbo,

One quick point, the Houx and Houx annexe sites are very different from each other, you only get the power and a marked pitch number in the houx site.
there is also a small shop and bar.

The Houx annexe does not have power or marked pitchs, but it does get a roundabout close at hand for burn out etc and 3 toliet/shower blocks.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but P16 campsite is the area we used for camping at the Pre Quals.
It's basically a grassed car park right where the inner fairground is during June (where the bungee etc was).

Facilities are the permanent toilet block across the way and you're right next to the village - although it's all a bit quiet during PQs.

P16 is the inner fun fair / fun fair operatives camping during June.

I wasnt sure if it was ever used.

I saw a sign for it, but presummed it maybe for the Marshalls or simular only.

It was P16 we stayed at for the test weekend Steve. During the race weekend thsi year I didn't look at it all but I'm sure some of it was for the funfair but in 2003 some was still being used for camping too.

P16 & Interior Musee may be the same place. I briefly spoke to some crawley mini cab drivers (yes really) camped up by the bridge that takes you back to the Annexe site just beyond the funfair, and thinking I would not want to camp there, looked at the ticket and am pretty sure it said Interior Musee.

Nope Barkers,
2 taxis and about 10 Asians, and a big curry pot, honest.

They where camped in the same spot last year as well.

I remember them but from what I can recall they stayed in between the Dunlop bridge and the first 'white lemans.org' bridge. We stay in Intreruir Musee every year and it is the other side of the white bridge.
