Title: Travel insurance
Post by: redstu on May 30, 2004, 10:21:37 am
I don't usually bother with travel insurance as I don't have anything worth nicking, and typically don't miss flights have accidents etc.
However this year I might as Goldfish (the CC company) now do insurance on a daily basis for £1.50 a day which is reasonable.

It would have come in handy 2 years ago when we had to sleep in heathrow airport rather than pay £180 for 6 hours in a hotel after we missed our flight due to industrial action in Italy.

Of course by taking insurance that probably means all the above will happen!

Make sure you have your E111.  A few years ago one of my pal fell over in one the uneven ground.  It cost cost him a few hundred FF at the local hospital coz he didn't bother with his E111.

having sampled the french NHS via the free hospital next to Notre Dame

Just get insurance.

They make our system look brilliant, 5 hr wait at Maccelsfield General is nothing compared to that place.

I don't travel a great deal, but I got annual insurance through Direct Line last year for the whole family. About £130 IIRC, includes US but excludes extreme sports!

I'll admit I've never read the blurb thoroughly to see what I'm covered for, but I have claimed on car and house insurances though DL and they are very easy to deal with. And the package holiday company wanted over £60 for three of us for two weeks last year...

I think camping at LM is definately classifed as an "extreme sport" - all that contact with fireworks, riot police, LOX BBQ lighters, Mad friday etc etc - you may in fact not be covered at all!

I'd not considered the Le mans experience to be an extreme sport, I must be oblivious to the danger! It Must be the added protection that you get with 1664 !
And as £6 buys about 1L of it in a bar I think I'll give the insurance a miss, the E111  will be sewn inside my shorts just incase of mishap.
