Title: Camping opposite expo centre Post by: carsarecool on May 12, 2004, 08:07:42 pm Last year was our first time to LM.
We camped in a field opposite the expo centre (the large round building just off the N23 west of the track) from Friday night to Monday morning. We have grandstand tickets this year but no camping available. Does anyone know if this campsite is there every year? We're kinda banking on a positive answer to this question! Any help appreciated. You might have to park the car elsewhere and walk in with your stuff. Title: Re:Camping opposite expo centre Post by: Gilles on May 13, 2004, 05:30:19 pm Last year was our first time to LM. Mart THIS IS NOT A CAMPING !!!! If the ACO saw that posting , they gonna try to keep this field closed !!!!! >:( Anyone rebel or deseperate or rebel enough to set up here can, but at their own risks :D Maybe it's also free until cops come with dogs !!!! ;D Title: Re:Camping opposite expo centre Post by: Canada Phil on May 14, 2004, 02:27:00 am Hi Carsarecool,
While the dogs have teeth the cops have Guns :o Suggest you jump to the sell or swap page and pick up a camping permit or get there early enough in the week when they sell off Blue parking with a tent. It doesn't seem like that long ago when the police operated a 'shoot to kill' policy in those parts (being shot in those parts is no fun either, I would imagine), and it wasn't unusual to find a few likely lads lying, as Bobby Dylan says, in a pool of bullerrrrd, next to their half erected item from the scout troup. Nowadays though, you'll get away with a hooding and a dodgy connection to a 12V cattle prodder, which after all is right in vogue these days. H Title: Re:Camping opposite expo centre Post by: carsarecool on May 14, 2004, 11:27:16 am The site last year cost 17 euros for 3 nights and approx. 300 people camped there. Can this still be an illegal site?!?
No passes required or any hassle from the local police. When we turned up at 6pm Friday evening, we were asking directions and the nice chap on the gate asked if we wished to camp there. There were already about 15 tents in the field and time was knocking on rather, so we camped. In the morning, about 300 other tents had sprung up, with loads of sports cars around and no-one had any problems. We're not ariving this year 'til Thursday evening so I think we'll struggle for camping elsewhere & there are 10 in our party, so the chance of us all getting in somewhere else are pretty remote. I can't believe we would get any hassle if the same site is there this year. Just need to know if anyone else knows if it there every year. How many cars have you got going? Are you ten people or ten cars. Each campsite permit for the "official" car parks allows one car in, no matter how many occupants. There are several camping passes available in the "Sell/Swap" section of this forum (and there's about to be some more) so you should be able to get yourself somethng before you go. I fear the days of being able to turn up on teh day and get a camping space are quickly disappearing. Title: Re:Camping opposite expo centre Post by: Andy Zarse on May 14, 2004, 12:41:44 pm Hi,
I'm pretty sure this is a bona fide private operation. I made a "back up" booking on it a few years ago whilst I was at PQs. The ACO were f**k*ng me about with HA camping tickets and somebody put a leaflet under my windscreen wiper. After a few enquiries, it appeared totally straight up and it must be the place you are trying to get into now. I don't think you have anything to worry about. I would still recommend trying to book it though. Sorry but I dont have their phone number any more. Hope this helps. Thanks Andy, I think we're going to chance it. As we're going a day earlier this year, hopefully it should be ok. Fingers crossed! Title: Re:Camping opposite expo centre Post by: Andy Zarse on May 14, 2004, 01:00:04 pm Bon chance!

Guess work I admit, but I would be prepared to bet on it. Binging it to La Sarthe next month Paula? Or just sticking with the hand fitted CA tee shirt? Bill |
