Title: Maison Blanche wall Post by: Mr. Rick on April 28, 2004, 03:46:03 pm Forgotten about this until someone just reminded me in an e-mail ... (and apologies if I'm duplicating another thread), but did anyone visit the alleged new wall and take piccies perchance???
Title: Re:Maison Blanche wall Post by: rcutler on April 28, 2004, 03:57:57 pm Smokie pointed out the wall as we drove past. I cannot really see a difference other than it is pure white still and has razor wire round the top.

Title: Re:Maison Blanche wall Post by: smokie on April 28, 2004, 04:42:00 pm It didn't strike me as being too photogenic, but it was definitely there.
About 7ft tall concrete with razor wire, from the main entrance of MB south right to the new roundabout IIRC (with a gap for that house), and north right to the end of MB. Maybe some of it used to be there, but I don't remember it, and there is definitely a lot of new. And it goes much further than the biundaries of MB, even if you take into account the new field they opened last eyar (opp Blue) Stalag Blanche... Title: Re:Maison Blanche wall Post by: Fax on April 28, 2004, 04:47:04 pm Is it me or does anyone else find razor wire to be a bit excessive for a motor racing venue?

But not if you can get it round a pikie's neck. 8) Title: Re:Maison Blanche wall Post by: jpchenet on April 28, 2004, 04:58:40 pm Is it me or does anyone else find razor wire to be a bit excessive for a motor racing venue? John Absolutely!! It was all around the base of the banking down near the Esses too. I doubt if it would be allowed here in the UK......Health and Safety and all that!! Title: Re:Maison Blanche wall Post by: Fax on April 28, 2004, 05:06:43 pm I can't say that its the sort of thing one would find over here as well. There would be lawsuits flying as soon as someone got tangled up in it. Do you guys have a problem with the pickies getting into your stuff in the campsites? The handful of times I've been there I didn't here too much about it. However we learned not to leave the car unattended for more than a few seconds when we stopped in Rouen a few years ago.

John I discovered that the year before last too. So now no stopping on route to Le Mans, and erect the tent in the dark! Forgive me, but am I right in assuming that we are talking about a wall that the ACO has erected BETWEEN the paying punters and the action that we have been chaged for to see? If so, it would appear that French logic prevails, once again. What else would you expect from the garlic munching surrender monkeys? (As they are affectionately referred to, here in the good ol' US. Title: Re:Maison Blanche wall Post by: jpchenet on April 28, 2004, 07:31:13 pm No Matt, it's a wall along the road that runs towards Arnage between MB and Bleu.
Title: Re:Maison Blanche wall Post by: Matt Harper on April 28, 2004, 07:38:47 pm Ah, OK - so why the fuss then?
Title: Re:Maison Blanche wall Post by: Fax on April 28, 2004, 07:53:17 pm Matt,
We could soon be seeing ten foot high walls with razor wire between the spectators and the action at NASCAR venue's after that fiasco at the end of the Talladega race Sunday. What the f**k! Some of those were full beers being hurled onto the track, thats a tragic waste of perfectly good beer. What the f**ck! Some of those were full beers being hurled onto the track, thats a tragic waste of perfectly good beer. John Yeah, I saw that! I just assumed that those good ol' 'bama boys didn't like Cali softie Jeff Gordon very much. Apparently the race would have gone to crossed green/white for the last lap, had there not been so much Bud Lite on the track. I have to say, you did warn me about Talladega! Do I recall that a fairly major accident that befell Bobby Alison at Talladega, was the reason we have those giant debris fences at the superspeedways these days? If I remember right, he got right up in the chainlink in the tri-oval. Had he gone through, he'd have vaporized about 10 rows of rednecks - no bad thing, maybe....... Title: Re:Maison Blanche wall Post by: Fax on April 29, 2004, 03:34:39 am Matt,
I think the near riot was caused by a combination of frustration at the race ending under the yellow and all the hilljack Dale Jr blowing a gasket that Pretty Boy beat him! NASCAR hates to end races under the caution but there have been occasions where they have re-started races at Dega or Daytona with one lap to go and have things have gone horribly pear-shaped. It effectively creates a 2.6 mile 40 car drag race with the predictable carnage approaching the start/finish line. The most celebrated being about ten years ago when Dale Sr. nuged Rusty Wallace in the tri-oval racing for the win and sent Rusty ass-over-heels. The Bobby Allison accident in 1986 was probably about as close as the sport has come to a repeat of the 1955 Le Mans tragedy. The "Big One" broke out in the tri-oval area and Allsion's car got launched up into the debris fencing, tearing down about a hundred yards of it before mercifully rebounding back onto the track. Several spectators were badly hurt but no one was killed which is about five hundred less than would have been if the car managed to get through the fencing. That accident was pretty much responsible for bringing about the restrictor plate regs (and the roof flaps). They were lapping Daytona and her big sister at over 210 MPH by this time. At both Daytona & Dega they removed the first six or seven rows of seats behind the wall, next time we're at Daytona take a look at the letter of the first row behind the walkway along the wall, I think it starts with G because A to F got pulled out in the interest of moving the paying punters back a bit. This made little sense to me because I seriously doubt if twenty feet is going to make a hell of alot difference if a 3500 pound car travelling 200 MPH gets lands in your lap. Dave & I experienced one of the those Talledaga massive Talladega shunts a few years from the first couple of rows during the Saturday Busch race. It was damn terrifying that close. John Title: Re:Maison Blanche wall Post by: Brian(Liverpool boys) on April 29, 2004, 05:43:51 am Ah, OK - so why the fuss then? What this wall will stop you from doing is watching the mad Friday burn outs and doughnuts on the road that runs along side MB, from what was the over flow field that they broke through from MB, when the main site was full. Looking at MB last week end it is now a lot bigger.Title: Re:Maison Blanche wall Post by: Lord Steve on April 29, 2004, 08:22:53 am Brian
Finally understand what this string is all about (I think). For the last few years we've stayed in the field next to MB known as the annexe. It's handy for watching all the hilarious lunacy on the road you refer to. We always pitch up next to the wall (7ft with razor wire). Is that the wall to which everyone's refering or has that wall been moved? There is a gap in the wall which connect the annexe to the main MB site and is manned by stewards handing out and collecting pass-outs. Steve Title: Re:Maison Blanche wall Post by: Canada Phil on April 29, 2004, 08:53:47 am Your Lordship, I belive they have put the new fence along the road to eliminate the need for the stewards /gate people you mention.

Did you notice the wide open lorry inspection pits in the open barn on the walk down towards Mulsanne Corner banking. You notice these during the daytime, but when you've had a few sherberts and it's 2 am, it's a bloody big hole to fall into :o Title: Re:Maison Blanche wall Post by: jpchenet on April 29, 2004, 04:46:09 pm I doubt if it would be allowed here in the UK......Health and Safety and all that!! Steve Steve , the small brocken fence that separates the field from the Mad friday Burn outs has been turned into a 7 foot concreate wall , complete with white paint... My only thought - when will the Brits paint a big red St G's cross on the panels ? I think it's more a concrete colour actually... Title: Re:Maison Blanche wall Post by: Brian(Liverpool boys) on April 30, 2004, 05:33:38 pm Took a photo of an empty MB, so have cropped it down so you can see the new wall. They have removed the old wall that seperated mb from the over flow field, so now there will be no need to break through like they have done when mb fills up. MB is now a vast space.

Im glad to say my 10 year old is showing signs of continuing my passion. He revels in making a bad stench in the toilet and leaving the door open, plus he can fart to order. What a talent!
