Post by: Rusty on April 21, 2004, 01:01:15 pm
For those that don't know already there is a FREE A2 B+W poster of Steve McQueen from the Le Mans film in this months Top Gear magazine ( May issue). There is also the same of Barry Sheene in classic V-sign pose.

Worth the £3.75 just for the posters. You can chuck the magazine away.

Cheers Rusty.  Looks like it's well worth the £3.75 just for the Steve McQueen poster

The Coolest Drivers Ever?  Hunt & Sheene yes.  McQueen was an actor who thought he was a racing driver.  As for Senna, damn good at nerfing his opponents off the road and being a thug, but cool? Not hardly.

Oh John.  It's all probably true, but it's the atmosphere etc.  Just evocative etc.  Know what i mean?

Sorry,
The racing purist in me gets a bit flashed-up when I see people getting all misty-eyed about Senna. The guy was a asshole but people nicely forget it know that he's six feet under.  The McQueen poster is nice (I have one myself along with one of the theater poster from Le Mans).  However he really couldn't hold a candle to PLN as far as actors/racers go.  Andretti has always said that reason he drove so hard to win Sebring in 1970 was because he didn't want to see McQueen win.  He said Peter Revson had driven his nuts off during that race to get he and Steve into second and all people were yapping about was McQueen.

Mind you, at £3.75, I'm pretty happy.
