1993 but it was practically dead before, the World Sportscar Championship that is. :'(

Yes hgb, you're right, I remember the last championsship year 1992 with just 28 cars on the grid in Le Mans.

The world championship stated in 1953, the first Le Mans not to count towards this, I think was 1956.

;D Bingo- we have a winner! :D???After the Mercedes crash in '55 the ACO reduced the engine capacity for `prototypes' to 2½ liters, not in conformance with the FIA. ::)
