I must remind the T.W.A.T.S. not to take 12,000 stickers with them this year! Title: Re:Pre-Qualifying Post by: Gilles on March 10, 2004, 05:54:09 pm I'm coming to PQ...

That being said - lets hope Mr RS2 doesn't get it into his head to do a practice run on the scooter. We should arrange a proper meeting as from the other times I have been it is still really busy and not too many Brits (sorry Gilles but its true) just lots of French and their kids and dogs! We could give our t-shirts a trial run as well ;D I am stopping now before I wet myself with excitment ( I know I am going to be sorry I mentioned that) It has been a long day at the office and I obviously need to get some fresh air. can't confirm or deny............ and yes I have every intention of driving down on the funky moped............. remember seeing the best ever mullet hairdo at last years PQ at Arnage corner - worth going just for that really! RS2 Babe :-* :-* :-* PQ is quite less expensive than the june race. The popular tradition is reporting on the PQ. When you're local, married, with at least 2 or 3 kids, you are probably not enough money these years to come in June, but you may come at PQ with all your screaming family, buy the T-Shirt of last year edition, proof for all your colleagues you were here in June, and you come with all your pets visiting a zoo when you can admire a few of British specimens... ... but I don't know who is on the human side of the zoo ;) Title: Re:Pre-Qualifying Post by: Mr. Rick on March 11, 2004, 09:56:06 am We should arrange a proper meeting ...... Good call! Fairly successful in the past has been the Sebring bar at lunchtime on the Saturday but I vaguely remember that being shut last year? Not sure of my place of residence for the Saturday night. Last year I was in a rather splendid chateau, but previous years has either been the old tentie thing in Vert somewhere or the Grand Hotel in Solesmes (which is a tad far but does have Canal Plus, although this year with the date change 'n' all, we wouldn't be treated to the 1st Sat of the month post midnight adult film fest!!!). Even managed to squeeze into the Auberge Hotel (by the 2nd chicane) one year. Apparently we shouldn't have got in as it's "reserved" many years in advance. Can't believe it's only a smidge over 6 weeks away!!!! Wooo hoooo!! ;D Title: Re:Pre-Qualifying Post by: Robbo SPS on March 11, 2004, 12:38:01 pm PQ VIRGINS QUESTIONS What the crack, is it sunday only, saturday only , both , or a bit of both as to speak ??? There won't be any track action on saturday, only posing and presenting ;D. The actual test day is on sunday. The paddock is closed and testing starts from 09:00 on. If you're lucky (and very early) you even have the chance to slip into the paddock area.
Title: Re:Pre-Qualifying Post by: MrRS2babe on March 11, 2004, 07:08:59 pm Robbo
PQ is well worth the trip. Firstly, your general entrance ticket gets you in for this as well as June. Access to all the grandstands is free. It is obviously a lot quieter than June and access (i.e. driving to Arnage/Mulsanne ) all around the circuit is very easy. Me and MrsRS2 last year got literally trackside at the Porsche curves (because of the relaxed security and less people around). 2002 all the area behind the garages was open and you could walk in between the motorhomes right to the back of the team garages (but they seemed to have cottoned on to that last year unfortunately and closed it off). No atmosphere in the village of course and a lot less exotica to view on the public roads but the on track action more than compensates and of course is the best way to whet the appetite for June............ Title: Re:Pre-Qualifying Post by: Robbo SPS on March 12, 2004, 01:22:11 am Cheers
My thought is a saturday night ferry arriving 0630 in Le Havre, 2 hour blast in either car or on big bike and watch said PQ , then return to ferry at 2300 for Monday day at work. Wasnt sure if it was possible though . Thanks any way Title: Re:Pre-Qualifying Post by: Perdu on March 12, 2004, 03:51:42 pm Bloody hell two hours is gonna be pushing the envelope a little Robbo. Just had an email about cheapo ferries Pompey-Le Havre down to £180 now if ordered before April 1st. Was about £300 before Xmas. PM Title: Re:Pre-Qualifying Post by: BigH on March 15, 2004, 05:48:08 pm Looks pretty neat PM. I'm afraid I'm not up to much when it comes to US motors - what's it breathing through, is that an injection set up on top? Is 6000 the red-line or the limit? Keeping the lead out of your boot while you run it in could be tricky, you'll be "The Fastest Man in Wales (With a Moustache)" and no mistake once it's spinning.
H 25% lost to the drivetrain? Title: Re:Pre-Qualifying Post by: powermite on March 15, 2004, 10:49:01 pm H,
Ive changed to a six speed manual too so according to this article,i should only lose about 15%. That would give me a stoill very lovable 358 bhp at the wheels. I'll get it on the rolling road though once its running well. this is the article: But testing rear-wheel horsepower (rwhp -- obviously, front drivers would be measuring fwhp) makes it difficult to convert from what the dyno says to what the manufacturer says. The manufacturer, remember, measures horsepower at the flywheel. All that equipment between the engine and the wheels -- the transmission, driveshaft, differential, and axles -- introduce friction and inertial losses summarized as "powertrain loss" or "parasitic losses". The efficiency of the driveline can greatly affect the amount of the powertrain loss: Ford's AOD transmission, for example, is notoriously inefficient. As a very general rule, rear-wheel horsepower on a manual-transmission car is about 15% less than SAE net, and rear-wheel horsepower on an automatic-transmission car is about 20% less than SAE net. Title: Re:Pre-Qualifying Post by: BigH on March 16, 2004, 09:22:17 am Sounds a corker PM, let us know how you get on.
There's two sounds guaranteed to bring a smile and raise not only the hairs on the back of your neck. One happens when you're walking towards a race circuit at the beginning of the day and you hear the first crack-crack of a racing motor fire up. The second happens when after many hours of labour getting a re-built engine back into the car it starts up for the first time and sits in there chuntering away. Best of luck! H |
