Title: Nostalgia Aint What It Used To Be
Post by: DelBoy on March 08, 2004, 10:36:54 pm
Just watched this video of the '69 race  -  absolutely magic.

-  proper Le Mans start
-  no pit lane wall
-  proper Dunlop curve
-  proper esses
-  proper Mulsanne straight
-  proper Mulsanne corner

I was there that year, but, relying on a 5 min English broadcast every hour on the tannoy, was not quite aware of the actual drama going on on the track.  For info, the GT40 and Porsche 908 were swapping the lead 3-4 times per lap for the last two hours of the race, the GT40 winning by a couple of seconds.

Also of note was the lack of beer mountains and HT Girls - although there are a few shots of nubile things with very pointed mammaries (obviously the fashion in '69 - they don't make 'em like that these days).  Also, the lack of beer mountains does not signify the lack of alcohol intake.

As the title of this post says:  'Nostalgia............'

NB:  First time I ever tried to attach a picture, so apols in advance if it does not work.

Yes, this was a magazine freebee - a very interesting video.

I have a copy if anyone wants to borrow it.

Originally sold as "La Ronde Infernale" (The Infernal Roundabout, or something like that!).

Not forgetting to mention the corking incidental music therein!

Should be watched at least once a day.

I totally agree with Rick.  Got it for my birthday in Feb and have watched it about 20 times.  Looks to me that everything was spiffing in those days!

Hi Steve,

I would be interested in borrowing said video and will pay p&p or beer for the privelige.

Just out if interest is the recording copy protected? If not I have a cunning plan to copy it on to DVD.

Pretzel, there shouldn't be any copy protection on it as it's on video.
I can copy it to a PC hard drive and produce a DVD if required.

PM me your address and I'll drop it in the post.

Steve,

I have had some difficulties copying some videos due to some form of encryption so I guess not all videos are the same. Let's hope this isn't one of them.

PM on it's way in anticipation anyway......

Yes please Steve - I would like a DVD copy also.  I was going to ask out there if anyone had the facilities.  How do you get it from VHS to hard disk?  I am currently getting rid of all tapes (audio & video) and am looking to get a dvd burner on the PC.  Need also to take output from Sky+ digibox onto dvd.

I'll pm you my address and will pay you in hard currency or liquid refreshment on MB in June - your call.

Debbie Does Dallas  :P

Ooh Debbie Does Dallas!! Haven't seen that for about 20 years (but isn't if funny how indelibly etched some of those scenes are in the old memory banks??!!).

Debbie Does Dallas II was even better coz she discovered the joys of playing for the opposition too!

Don't think I've ever seen No.2 Rick. Have you got a copy??  ;)

We'll have a TV/Video with us on MB this year (only small) but I think someone is taking a big TV (Robbo??)  ;D

Could always bring a laptop and projector if you have it on DVD and project it onto the side wall of a gazebo!!!

I guess Steve has some kind of TV/Video capture card in his PC and can play video in and record directly on to HDD.

I too have the facility but can record direct from video onto DVD without the use of a PC as I have of these new fagled DVD recorders and would recommend it. It can also take outputs from Sky Digibox, Digital terrestrial, Camcorder etc..

To those who requested this DVD, there will be a small delay as I need a bit of software to decode the Windows Media Center DVR-MS format to write to DVD-R.

Stand by..........

Steve -
It should be obvious - Goldiloppers trickely how de early mordy, and falloloped down the stairs. How unfortunate for the crackery of the eggers and grazed her kneeclappers, but a little Vaselubrios, rub it on and a quick healey huff.  ;D ;D

If Stanley Unwin wrote software manuals, we could all be experts  ???

Good ol' Prof, never left any punters confused unlike Migrosaft who left me behind five years ago and keep changing the software before I can play "catch-up" :)

From the man himself,
Relating to Christmas overeating but also to Le Mans activities...

"If you've done an overstuffy in the tumloader, finish the job with a ladleho of brandy butter, then pukeit all the way to the toileybox."

www.cd-rmedia.co.uk (http://www.cd-rmedia.co.uk) don't stock Sony DVD-R discs with full size jewel case as those that I bought on the high street.

The only comparable seem to be TDK or Maxell at about £1.30.  I have an aversion to cheap discs from Taiwan that I have never heard of (Rikek?) and are spindle mounted.

So ten TDK plus delivery comes to £18.89.
I paid £19.99 plus a bit of shoe leather in WH Smith for 10 there and then so I'm not really complaining.

Steve,

Have now watched the DVD. The '69 LM film was great but the bonus track 'The History of Brooklands' well what can I say...   Fantastic!

I think a bonus beer at LM will definitely be in order.

Many thanks,
