Title: Bring me up to speed please! Post by: jeremyc on February 25, 2004, 01:09:05 pm Folks
I used to be a regular but finances have dictated that we've not been for a few years however we're thinking of doing a splash and dash this year, kipping in the car on Sat. night. I've a few questions that you may be able to help with. Are toilets stills as bad? We used to get ACO stand tickets partly for the loos. Do ACO tickets still go as quickly as they used too? Any likelyhood of them still being available. Can you still park at Arnage and Mulsanne with parking passes from the main area. Anything else that has changed over the last four years or so? Cheers Jeremy Title: Re:Bring me up to speed please! Post by: pretzel on February 25, 2004, 02:19:07 pm Jeremy,
I'm sure that many others will also reply. There is also much on this site that will give you the answers you seek but to save you hunting: 1. Toilet facilities seem to have improved over the years. Loos in ACO stand still the best on site. Pikeys on the doors the same wherever you go though. 2. ACO tickets for the more popular campsites basically gone before the conclusion of the previous year's race. Beausejour is the only site I am aware of that is still available from the ACO as of now. Same with the ACO grandstand (unless you go via a ticketing agency and pay through the nose). Other grandstand seats were still available from the ACO as of 2 weeks ago. Yes you can still park at Mulsanne/Arnage with your general tickets. Whether you will want to brave the horrendous traffic though is a different matter. Other changes: You will see a lot less trees around the Esses area, along with a new grandstand. The run down to the esses has been remodelled - some approve, some don't. Oh, and the funfair is now at the top of the village, and all of the more 'interesting' attractions now gone. I'm sure there are other changes I've forgotten so will leave it to others to fill you in. Title: Re:Bring me up to speed please! Post by: jeremyc on February 25, 2004, 02:36:33 pm It won't be the same without the opportunity to queue through the night to see dodgy ladies remove their clothes.
PC hits Le Mans, a shame. Thanks for the info. I think we are going to do it really light this year, just general admission and reserved parking with a cheap hotel the night before and after and sleeping in the Sprite on the night of the race. Title: Re:Bring me up to speed please! Post by: gibberish on February 25, 2004, 03:03:36 pm and sleeping in the Sprite on the night of the race. My god sir! That must be a feat in itself. :o :o Title: Re:Bring me up to speed please! Post by: Steve Pyro on February 25, 2004, 03:44:40 pm sleeping in the Sprite on the night of the race. No Zarse, you have already identified yourself in that respect. :o Title: Re:Bring me up to speed please! Post by: Andy Zarse on February 25, 2004, 03:58:57 pm I'm an imposter. :D
Who will be first to say "I'm Raoul and so is my wife!" Title: Re:Bring me up to speed please! I have been informed that it is right by Oxford Street Station??. P.S. Gibberish, sorry to hear you are out of work, I am also looking for a job wanna club together this cockny guy has me selling sugar all over the place! Title: Re:Bring me up to speed please! Post by: jeremyc on February 25, 2004, 04:48:15 pm I'm afraid the Raoul references have gone so high over my head they have left earth orbit.
However, no I'm a pretty average 5'11 and a fag end. Last time we went we slept in the Sprite and I can't say it was the best nights sleep I ever had but hey, Le Mans sleep is utility sleep, you don't want to lay-in anyway. I'm struggling with the year we last went but it was very very wet and I had to gaffer tape up my hood to the sidescreen on the passenger side to stop the rain coming in. About 10 years ago (the year that the TWR Porsche that turned out ot be one of the winning Jags rebodied won) we took my Fiat Dino and slept in it. I woke up with a basket weave effect face, Title: Re:Bring me up to speed please! Good lunchtime was it?? ;D Title: Re:Bring me up to speed please! Post by: Chris24 on February 25, 2004, 07:21:44 pm Sounds like 1997 then if memory serves me correctly. 1996 was real hot, so it must have been 1997, because the Porsche WSC won in both 96, and 97
Title: Re:Bring me up to speed please! Post by: mgmark on February 25, 2004, 09:38:28 pm Main changes, other than those already posted and a couple of hints:
1) Best bogs are in the Museum - your race ticket gets you in for free. 2) The bank inside the track on Karting Nord has disappeared 3) Good spectating at the Porsche curves 4) Mulsanne and Arnage are an utter nightmare to park in - pick your time carefully. 5) Most of the old stands have been demolished and replaced by new ones on the start/finish straight. New stands at the new Esses. Have fun ;D ;D Title: Re:Bring me up to speed please! Post by: gibberish on February 26, 2004, 11:39:34 am Good lunchtime was it?? ;D Not bad thanks mate. Last night was much better. Did some serious damage to the Laphroaig bottle. Looking forward to resuming drinking duties this evening. I must say though, that it would be quite illuminating if Raoul did turn up. ::) ::) |
