French gov ban gatherings of over 5000 people to prevent virus spread.this may become a problem for us.

Jus' curious.....how is that supposed to work???

Virus: "Oh, there's only 5000 people here, don't jump across guys......" ?????????

It's March, LM is in June ... nothing to worry about so far.

ELMS test and opening race in Barcelona could be a problem in 4 weeks time if there's an outbreak in Spain.
Monza might be a question mark for the ELMS in May.

Outbreak in Spain? Don't forget the race hosting country might not want to let it in. 'Not necessarily the only worry being coming out with it. ;)

=Potential Impact of Coronavirus:=

The virus, and its unforeseen impact, has come out of the blue and is something that we could not have prepared for. All we can do is give you the facts available and point you in the direction of further information to help you make an informed decision as to whether or not to travel.

At this stage there is no indication that events at Le Mans and/or Spa Francorchamps will be affected by the current Coronavirus outbreak. However, we are monitoring travel advice updates from the UK Government  Foreign Office (http://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice) and NaTHNaC (https://travelhealthpro.org.uk/news/499/novel-coronavirus-covid-19-general-advice-for-travellers) plus the ACO about the event. If there is any significant update, we will let you know.

If the situation changes and FCO issues a travel advisory advising against all but essential travel to a whole country or island, customers of ABTA Members who have booked package holidays to that destination for the period that the advice is in force will be entitled to receive suitable alternative arrangements, or where these aren’t available, a full refund of all monies paid to the tour operator. Customers may be able to recover the refund from their travel insurance, but if this is not the case, the tour operator must provide a refund. Unfortunately you won’t be entitled to any additional compensation, as the reason for the holiday not continuing is outside the control of 1st Tickets Limited.

In the meantime, please do ensure that everyone in your group has adequate travel insurance and a valid European health insurance card (EHIC (https://www.ehic.org.uk/Internet/startApplication.do)) as this will allow access to state-provided healthcare in EEA countries, at a reduced cost, or sometimes for free. The EHIC, however, is not an alternative to travel insurance.

You can, of course, choose to cancel your trip at any time, however termination charges as per our Booking Conditions (https://1st-tickets.co.uk/terms) will apply.

If there is a significant change to the travel guidelines or an update about the events from the ACO and/or Peter Auto, we will keep you updated.

"The virus, and its unforeseen impact, has come out of the blue"

What's the impact (besides the panic and results thereof)?
And, out of the blue? The "corona" virus has been around for years and years. This one's just a new strain.

40,000ish people a year die on the highways (lowways too?) each year here in the U.S. Is this "ultra pandemic"?

Oh, the humanity......  ::) (and more seriously, the ignorance.... :()

Title: Re: Flu

Plague killed over 200 000,000

Title: Re: Flu
Post by: jimclark on March 04, 2020, 12:09:08 am
And? What was the world's population and number infected at the time?....Percentage of infected?
It's not killing nearly that percentage, now is it?

"The Black Death Killed 2/3 of its victims within 3-4 days. 25 million people died due to the Black Death and 1/3-1/2 of the worlds population had died by 1350. The Black Death was a combination of three disease. The mortality rate for humans who caught the bubonic plague was 30-75%. The pneumonic plague killed 90-95% of its victims."

There is ignorance in panicking. That is more dangerous than this virus. ;)

As an ACO member I received an mail from the ACO today, which said

CORONAVIRUS UPDATE

We are monitoring the Coronavirus situation closely.

For the moment, we have not been notified of any requirement to postpone or cancel any of our sporting events scheduled in the coming weeks on the Le Mans circuit. Our event calendar remains unchanged.

We are confident that the 24 Hours of Le Mans will go ahead as planned on 13-14 June.

Please note that our priority is to maintain our published schedule for 2020.
•   However, should it be necessary to do so, we will reschedule events later in the year.
•   In the event of a cancellation, tickets will be refunded.

Quite correct Barry, but now superseded by a ban on all gatherings of over 1000 people in France.
We shall have to wait and see how long that lasts.

I suspect we will see a big drop in cases of food poisoning and other poor hygiene related illnesses since people will be washing their hands more frequently and more effectively.

There is also the chance that there will be a increase in crime as people fight over the supply of Bog Roll.

I wonder if someone dies fighting over toilet Paper will it be counted in the death toll of Corona?

Can't help but think without social media and the internet this would have been classed as flu. I've read that in cases of hysteria people go for comfort , ie big bog roll packs.
Remember stress makes you more prone to illness so have a beer and a good nights sleep.

And if you have booked with a credit card, don't they have a refund system/policy ?

This forwarded to me via Team Languostine.
Note point 4

ACO Statement 17/03/20:

Dear clients, partners and suppliers,

Like you, we at the Automobile Club de l’Ouest (ACO) are faced with an unprecedented situation caused by the coronavirus and its sanitary and economic repercussions.

We are doing our best to inform every one of the steps we are taking and are happy to answer questions relating to our calendar of events for the remainder of this year.

This is a critical situation and in the light of the measures announced by the government, our overriding priority is the protection of our staff, volunteers and subcontractors and, in the longer term, the safeguarding of our operations. Two weeks ago, our executive committee set up a task force to monitor this crisis. As a result, we have a plan of action to get through this period together, responsibly.

1. We have issued reminders to staff, relaying the preventive measures announced by the government. Our employees have been working from home since Monday, with the necessary flexibility to enable parents to look after their children. The staff canteen opening hours have also been adapted to suit new requirements.

2. All ACO venues – the 24 Hours of Le Mans museum, karting track, Bugatti Circuit and the Porsche Experience Center – have been closed since the morning of Sunday 15 March and will remain closed until further notice. We shall await government instructions.

3. All events and races scheduled at the Bugatti, Maison Blanche or Karting du Mans tracks or at other ACO venues between now and the end of April 2020 have been postponed where possible.  The 24H Motos scheduled for April will now take place in early September. See this page for the full list of postponed events: https://newsroom.lemans.org/fr/press/coronavirus-le-point-a-date-sur-les-epreuves.

4. We are looking to maintain or postpone events scheduled beyond April. Outright cancellation of our main events is out of the question. On this note, we express our heartfelt thanks for the constructive, positive responses we have received in our effort to find solutions that suit everyone concerned. We have set ourselves the deadline of 15 April to announce our decision concerning our main events this summer, including the 24 Hours of Le Mans scheduled for 13-14 June. You can be sure that everyone at the ACO is doing their utmost to honour contracts and fulfil expectations.

You can rely our unfailing support throughout these trying times. In turn, we know that we can count on your support and understanding at a time when we shall surely need it.

Please take care of yourselves and of others.

Pierre Fillon     Stéphane Darracq

President         CEO

19-20 September new dates

aghhh - rush to re-book ferry

Re-booked my ferry tonight - 35min to get through

Price cheaper than in June and they did not know Le Mans dates had been changed -

So planning Christmas coming early to Le Mans  ;D

It's interesting to read through this thread from the start and see how the posts have changed from bullish optimism to subdued resignation that Le Mans in June is out of the question. I couldn't have made it in June this year but, if the worldwide situation has eased during the summer, September might be possible.
Hopefully I'll see a few of you at Silverstone in August as well if that isn't rescheduled.

Fingers crossed - stay well everyone!

Wasn't this on the Brethren message board or something similar?
It was hilarious posting a comment then watching more comments come in before deciding who was responding to each comment!

It was made more difficult by the fact that most contributors were probably half-cut....
