Club Arnage

I needed your help to find the Bayeux Tapestry, i am travelling down from Cherbourg and want to stop of at Bayeux if it is there.
The internet tells me everything appart from where it is.
Address or phone no. of the museum/building it is kept will help immensly.

It is simple to find just follow the signs - I was there earlier this year - It is very well signposted and even the parking is free..

Yes it's easy to find but a bit boring when you actually see it. Except for one bit where a bloke is having his cock cut off.

Be a great way to "reserve" your team camping pitch - lay out the entire Bayeaux.

You could drop it back to them after, hoping it hasn't got muddy footprints all over of course

Well this may have changed my mind as to wanting to see it, so i may just go to at airbourne musee in st mere eglise instead.

An alternative suggestion. From Bayeux, cut along the pretty little coast road and stop at the D Day museum at Arromanche. It is execellent and if the tide is out you can walk out to sea and climb on what remains of the Mullberry Harbour. There are a few nice seafood restaurants there too. When we visited we also had the pleasure of meeting some "Vets" (and I don't mean James Herriot).

You can then cut back down to the new dual carriage way and stop off at St Mere Eglise if time permits.

If you do visit Arromanches, it is well worth going to the 360' cinema, it is only a short walk up the hill or if you do not fancy the walk they run a free road train every half hour.leaves from out side the museum. Well worth a visit and an unforgetable expeirience.

Sorry Andy, people answer you too fast to me and they give you so bad feelings about the tapestry that you decide to change your trip...

... they're a lot of sweet places to discover along the trip... All the D-Day memorials (if there's only one, just go to the Memorial de Caen), the Musee du Camembert, livarot's factories, cider producers (not the insane welsh fermented apple juice I drank 2 days ago, the real one cider, not the kid's version),...

... all depending on interest of you and your passengers. What are you most interested in?

Also worth a trip if you are in Bayeux is the war museum - much better than the one at Arromanche.

In Britain, if you got caught giving Welsh Cider to your kids, the local authority would take your kids into the care of Social Services!

But I agree, Normandy Cider is superb, a real alternative to wine or beer.

Thanks again Folks, looks like a bit of planning is on the cards. as i am crossing on the cat i will have more time to explore. that is more to do on the way back as well.
i better let smokie know i may arrive at beausejour later than planned.

And if anyone if travelling via Caen then I can recomend the Peagus Bridge Museum - and the Bar of the same name.

Go along with that Gilles, visited it last month and was very impressed, they now have the original bridge on display, as it was it was rusting away in a field on the canal.

this new route i am making this year may prevail for the next few years i reckon.
if any of you have the time please email me with towns of these places of interest and i will be able to make a planner to assist in sorting them to my route.
all your suggestions are right up my street and i am thankfull for the response, and perhaps if others who have looked in on this, there has been a few, will have found this post very eye opening to the experiences of others, so look forward to seeing you at the shampoo bar on the saturday to buy you a drink.
