Title: Re:Parkin/ Camping Passes Post by: Andy Zarse on January 10, 2004, 11:12:06 am I think Rusty devised a method, but it involved a chisel and a w**k sock. I don't really want to go there!
Title: Re:Parkin/ Camping Passes Post by: pretzel on January 10, 2004, 02:24:59 pm Have any of you found a way to remove the sticky mess left on your windscreen once removing the passes at the end of the week. I have tried differnet ways including the yellow attempt on my motor bike a few years ago. Any hints as my Car is brand spanking new......... Robbo, I had this dilemma about 3 years ago when I too did not want to get irremovable adhesives on my spanking new car. My other half came up with a great idea and we have used it ever since. 1. Take a transparent polythene bag that is just about the size of one of the windscreen sun visors. 2. Cut off the closed end so it becomes a polythene sleeve. 3. Slide the polythene sleeve over the sun visor. 4. Slide the parking/camping pass in between the sun visor and the polythene sleeve so the details face the windscreen when the visor is in the down position. Job done. Easy to remove and, if you collect them as mementos of the event, they are not destroyed in the removal process. You can re-use the sleeve again and again and there's no need to slave away with nail varnish remover etc... Title: Re:Parkin/ Camping Passes Post by: jpchenet on January 10, 2004, 10:37:49 pm Lat year on Houx Annexe someone was doinga similar thing, except their reason was that they kept passing the camping permit back over the fence for one of their friends to get their car in!
Title: Re:Parkin/ Camping Passes Post by: Rhino on January 10, 2004, 11:30:38 pm I managed it with brake cleaner!
Nowadays try smearing vaseline thinly over the area the sticker is to be applied it will come off much easier and no glue left. But for goodness sake don't let anyone see you walking round the campsite with a tub of vaseline and you claiming it's to stop a sticky mess. Title: Re:Parkin/ Camping Passes Post by: Mr Toad on January 11, 2004, 05:46:47 pm The guys on the gates are much tighter now than they used to be - we saw a lot of "recycling" of passes on Annexe in the 90's!
Assuming you have stuck it on (and have no vaseline/KY jelly with you!) - I used lighter fluid last year... I've always thought it looks good left on for a few days/weeks though, so when you are driving round London people in the know can give you a wry smile!!! Title: Re:Parkin/ Camping Passes Post by: Rhino on January 12, 2004, 12:07:33 am I still have my 2003 BTCC pass on the Sud ;D Yes but is it because you dare not take it off as it's holding it together. :) Title: Re:Parkin/ Camping Passes Post by: powermite on January 15, 2004, 11:00:19 pm Just peel off about 5 mm of the backing and put it in your screen with just 4 little patches of sticky

Title: Re:Parkin/ Camping Passes Post by: Simes on January 28, 2004, 03:18:34 pm What a coincedence, I stupidly left my pass for a few months and as mentioned am left with the two strips of glue.
I am tempted to use cellulose thinners on it to remove. Title: Re:Parkin/ Camping Passes Post by: smokie on January 28, 2004, 07:54:07 pm Nail varnish remover does the trick. Probably the same stuff...?

Title: Re:Parkin/ Camping Passes Post by: Canada Phil on January 29, 2004, 05:01:52 am The active ingredient of Nailpolish remover is Acetone.
For those who would rather shop at the hardware store than the make up counter. Canada Phil Title: Re:Parkin/ Camping Passes Post by: Liszt on January 29, 2004, 02:48:57 pm No need.
Just raid the Missus make up stash and get it for free. Well I say free... Title: Re:Parkin/ Camping Passes Post by: Simes on May 01, 2004, 06:53:16 pm Just thought I'd dig this thread out as a reminder of the perils.
I've just got around to removing the two thin strips of glue from the parking sticker (just in time for it to happen again) after going through a load of differing products only cellulose thinners was able to shift the offenders. Title: Re:Parkin/ Camping Passes Post by: mgmark on May 02, 2004, 08:40:11 am In previous years, I have left mine on the dashboard, but last year the campsite guards were insistent that the pass was stuck to the windscreen. EVOStik Impact Adhesive solvent works a treat for me, or MEK (Methyl Ethyl Ketone) if you can get hold of it - only use on glass.
Title: Re:Parkin/ Camping Passes Post by: smokie on May 02, 2004, 11:01:37 am ...or, if you live in a female household, nail varnish remover
