Title: BMW back to Le Mans
Post by: lofty on July 20, 2017, 02:59:29 pm
BMW have tested the new M8 and have mentioned Le Mans in 2018. Also Mazda have teamed up with Joest to run the team in the USA. Could Joest convince them to return to la Sarthe? We hope so.

LMP1 is dead - long live GTE?

Don't know so much Landy John. I know Porsche are reviewing whether they are going to call it a day with their LMP1 programme but with the Pippin and Genetta chassis's coming through for the privateers next season I think that it will survive for a bit.

These things also come round in waves, give it another 10 Years and the car manufacturers will be battling it out again. Just with different technology, which again always comes in waves.

It's been awefully quiet around Perrin in the last weeks/Months.  Perrin was at LM, but didn't want to give any comments or news about next season.  Ginetta could have up to six cars in LMP1, together with the 2 Dallara's of SMP Racing.

BMW is entering the WEC & IMSA next year so LM will be included. M8 looks like a big beast though compared to the other cars in GTE.

My guess: if Porsche calls off their WEC program, Toyota might follow (or do another year just to finally win LM).  DPi might be on the cards then for a LM entry from 2019 on.
