Post by: aricus654 on June 23, 2016, 08:29:43 am

I learnt to classify rain 1-4.

And never leave home without full wet gear including

And it's not over until it's over..

What else did people take away?

Make sure to get enough sleep before and during race week.
It's grueling out there working trackside especially in those rainy conditions ... Sundaymorning was like hell for me after a 2 hour power nap. Struggled to stay awake & didn't manage too many decent shots anymore.

Might have to stick to a tighter shooting plan next year, missed a lot of locations I really wanted to go to now.  But did manage to learn a lot about the track again.

On the subject of "not over until its over", Toyota have revealed the details of the fault that befell the #5;

Car #5 had a technical defect on a connector on the airline between the turbo charger and the intercooler, causing a loss of turbo control.

So basically a ten buck widget has wrought all this gnashing and wailing of teeth. Wouldn't be the first time, won't be the last, but it's a particularly cruel example of the genre.

Don't go to mad on the beer Sunday evening if you are driving Monday.
Got pulled for a random breath test at the peage before Rouen at 9.30.

I learnt to classify rain 1-4.

Some how in the RLM cometary we heard rain at levels 1 - 4 and rain at Level 42.... I think that's what hit us in the square after the parade when looking for something to eat.

1.We learned how to smuggle 3 litres of wine and 10 cans of beer from Houx to trackside for the long night on Saturday at Tetre Rouge.
2. We re-lived past pleasures by leaving the circuit and driving back to Rouen via the D338 rather than the auto routes. Road was empty, scenery beautiful and brought back some happy memories.

Quel age avez-vous? Vous ętes en train d'apprendre cela?

I see you've been on CA five years so you have at least that many...sheessshhh!!!  :o

The rain? Ovals, you don't have to worry about it...you know it ain't happening. Any real racing (road courses) it's a given.
The finish? Ain't that true about anything? :)

Steve,

It does. Well, apart from the time when we cash in those offshore investments we made a few days ago.

What I learned was a six hour delay at the Eurotunnel terminal is not a good or relaxing way to end a great weekend

Gary
I believe that there exists a compensation scheme. We were lucky and got on the 10.20 shuttle with no problems but were still contacted by SpeedChills to tell us that they are managing the compensation package offered by Eurotunnel.

Although not me...

...that the police are out in force on the roads north and to have a pocket full of used euros if stopped!

And?

Considering how much I drank during Sunday, much to my amazement 0.0 mg, the liver must still be working then.    ;D

Strange, I tootled back on the roads via Gace and Rouen etc. on Monday and didn't see any.

What did we learn?

Not to take so much camping gear that there's not enough room in the car for a few cases of wine - not that we had time you understand, just 5.5 hours delayed at the tunnel.

I drove down to Le Mans on the D338. Recently tarmac'd, not many cars in sight and new sticky tyres  ;D

Made up for the fact that the rest of my party didn't stop when I had to pull over in Rouen to put the roof up in the rain on the Wednesday and then they missed the 338 junction so went down on the toll to Le Mans by mistake.  >:D

Take everything you need in the car regardless (so all weather clothing) and dont forget to take a tent like I did so 1 lad slept in his car and the other shared a 1 man tent lol.

Lesson learnt roll on 2017 cant wait now.

I think if I had been sleeping in a car, other than an Audi, or had to share a one man tent I would have given your old BMV a push start - single handedly… :)

The cashpoints outside Carrefour can't be trusted not to swallow your card then immediately declare themselves as 'Non Disponsible.'

Nor can they be trusted not to still list the money I didn't get as still having been withdrawn.
