Title: Re: 2016 Homeguard Post by: jimclark on June 16, 2016, 11:11:34 pm Could (Key word of course) make for an interesting race...as long as it's not all parade behind safety car or worse, red flag.

I was at Le Mans for the monsoon of 2001, have no desire to re-live that experience.
Fax Title: Re: 2016 Homeguard Post by: mike(liverpool boys) on June 18, 2016, 08:12:51 pm Recorded the start, watched them get to mulsanne then deleted it. Just got sat down to watch a bit and it looks good. Dr Audi has some work to do and the Fords running very well,I'm happy.

Title: Re: 2016 Homeguard Post by: jimclark on June 18, 2016, 08:32:02 pm Question: I haven't taken the time to check regulations....how does a car that does not exist yet (Ford GT) get to run in GTE?
Title: Re: 2016 Homeguard Post by: jimclark on June 18, 2016, 08:34:13 pm The original GT40s got me into Le Mans, and sports car racing in general, but these are not in prototype so how...???
Title: Re: 2016 Homeguard Post by: mike(liverpool boys) on June 18, 2016, 08:56:12 pm Fairly sure they are available to preorder and although road car specs may vary,I'd imagine the basic car,and more importantly the parts that matter for going racing will be set in concrete for homologation purposes.
Title: Re: 2016 Homeguard Post by: jimclark on June 18, 2016, 09:01:36 pm The deadline for application came and went about a week ago. Again, the cars don't exist yet. Special dispensation for Ford for the 50th anniversary is what I figger... 'Don't like it. I am a Ford fan but right is right and this ain't right, in my opinion.
Title: Re: 2016 Homeguard Post by: Boorish Grobian on June 18, 2016, 09:10:32 pm If a big manufacturer wants to participate at Le Mans, and the WEC, the ACO & FIA will bend the rules to attract them, simple as that. Happens all the time in life, money & influence talk.
Fax Title: Re: 2016 Homeguard Post by: jimclark on June 18, 2016, 09:10:52 pm I was off by a bit. The deadline for the application to purchase a GT ($550,000.00+) was sooner. I can't come close to affording one so I never read much about it.

As they say, that was then, this is now. In the contemporary racing landscape, with competition for the sponsorship dollar, and viewership as tight as it is, if Ford wants to go racing in a series, the sanctioning body will make it happen. Sarcasm. Smilies. ;) :) Title: Re: 2016 Homeguard Post by: jimclark on June 18, 2016, 09:33:49 pm This:

Title: Re: 2016 Homeguard Post by: Boorish Grobian on June 18, 2016, 09:36:07 pm Speaking of the GT40's, at last weekends Ault Park Concours here in Cincy, they had three original GT40's on display, including the '66 LM 2nd place car of Ken Miles & Denny Hulme on loan courtesy of the IMS museum.

Ahhh...you mean the actual winners of the race. They were robbed. >:( :( Title: Re: 2016 Homeguard Post by: Boorish Grobian on June 18, 2016, 11:10:42 pm I stand corrected, it was the 3rd place Bucknum-Dick Hutcherson Holman Moody car, not the Miles-Hulme machine. Whoops!
Too many IPA's after the ride on the Ninja this afternoon. Fax Title: Re: 2016 Homeguard Post by: mike(liverpool boys) on June 19, 2016, 05:14:47 pm Had the last hour recorded as I was working today. Although my twat of a brother messaged me about it before I'd seen it and ruined it I have to say, what a stinger for Toyota. Ran the perfect race to be let down that close to the line. That's racing though.
