Club Arnage

Team Booze'n'tabs will for the second year be on Terte Rouge. Last  year we had a good spot overlooking the track with the big screen in view. 
We had discussion of getting a better view by possibly having a  makeshift grandtand.
I seem to remember the Aco discourage you from having structures over a certain height.
Our options were for a roof rack on van with frame to stop people tumbling off. Or mre realistic one is a single level scaffold tower which would be about a 1.5m heigh. Does anybody know if they have any restrictions?

I'm not aware of any formal restrictions and I've seen some magnificent structures on Maison Blanche over the years. However, I could understand the ACO having reservations if any viewing platform spoiled the view of other spectators or was potentially dangerous. I would have though that if you're against the fence at Tetre Rouge and not blocking anyone's view a 1.5m platform shouldn't cause too may problems with the ACO.
However, it only takes one jobsworth official to make the carrying of scaffold tube and boards to Le Mans and back a waste of time.

Hi Rhino,
            I agree with Steve about the scaffold. I presume you are locating this in the camp ground area not the spectator area. 1.5 metre is hardly a "tower"  :) Take a step ladder for access from the uneven ground of Tetre Rouge. A flag pole with a CA flag will make it easier to find you for that cold Cidre  ;D Oh wait I could not get into TR camp last year  :( after a long thirst generating walk from BN. Hope to catch up with you in 2016.

We've had various Tertre Rouge viewing platforms over the years, from rickety jobs with step ladders and tables to van roof-tops to a 3 piece wicker furniture set on the top of a series II Landy. For several years we watched from the back of a pick-up but with the way the trees have grown up you need something a bit higher now. The amount of track you can see is much less than a few years back, and gets less every year, there was some pruning going on on Sunday night last year though. Also be prepared to get very bored of passing spectators waving, pointing and taking photos though, wears a bit after a few hours.
The list of prohibited items as per the poster by the entrance does include scaffold towers but the marshals are usually relaxed and let one go last year. I'll be watching from the top of a silver Renault Traffic again this year, hopefully the big screen will be back too.

Thanks for the advice. Will probably go for the lower scaffold tower as the risk of people falling off the van is probably too great. It's really only to see over the heads of the crowd in front.
Phil we were near where the proper grandstand was. Did have a CA flag up, but have rediscovered my inflatable Rhino so will fly that as well.
Fisherman, who did the pruning? I guess it wasn't official. And did you see the lads Sunday night on the waterslide?

The pruning was very unofficial! I left about 7 on the Sunday evening last year so missed the waterslide.

Maybe the wrong thread but it is announced that the ACO are constructing four new grandstangs after the Porsche Curves, which at this moment are having serious modelling redone. Also, those who go to Arnage are promised a considerably better viewing area with more of a view towards Indianapolis. Last time I went past it wasn't really possible to tell exactly because of the enormous earthworks going on.

Does that mean that the current spectator banking on Maison Blanche, after the Porsche Curves will be covered in steel monstrosities?

That'd be my guess - leaving the gap to the Ford chicane, and the land on the other side of the track for Corporate Hospitality.

The space is about the right size and its "unused" land/a wasted space.  Should be good (free) for practice, provided the wire fence doesn't grow any higher

For the past few years there has been a group that builds a 'grandstand' on MB by the Porsche Curves. every year without fail the security guards come around and either force then to dismantle it or rope it off/put it out of commission (and check back regularly to make sure it is). When we spoke to the security guys there they explained that these are not allowed but 'mobile' structures are tolerated - case in point the Gloucester Boys Transit rooftop rig which was generally left alone (well, until we all got hoofed off of MB to pastures new!).

Obviously MB is different from Terte Rouge and a little 'higher profile' perhaps but good to have a real world example as nothing worse than carting a bunch of scaffold all the way sausage-side to find you get it erected and immediately have to take it down  >:(

Several people in TR previously errected scaffolding in the campsite but over the last couple of years they have been told it is no longer allowed, so i think you will be limited to seats on top of the van, the stewards seem to get more strict each year.
