Title: Couple of pics
Post by: Ruptured Duck Motorsport on December 18, 2003, 12:43:19 pm
There was a thread where folks were posting some of their LM2003 pics - here are two of mine I quite like....

I love this one of the Bentley - almost everyone is watching it
(http://oddsnsods.dreamracers.net/bentley.jpg)

Nice view from the ACO grandstand

Well, it's a bit parky, and I've a scrotum like a roasted Waterloo Bridge chestnut, so it seems a good time to share this one...

Hi H,
I like the pic of the Bentley working its way to its grid position.
Its passing the Racers Group Porsche sitting there and I get a chuckle every time I see their Porker.  They should win some kind of award for the number of sponsors they have slapped on that car.  Probably carries more decals on it than half the cars in the GT ranks put together. Kevin Buckler and his boys do drive the wheels off it though.

Nice stuff DR!!

If you look to the right of the Bentley pic you can just see Peter Baron having a laugh with the T.W.A.T.S. chappies, or the early stages of what turned into a bout of t-shirt tennis. I was standing right in front of them and the Orbit boys (of which PB was one of the drivers for those of you at the back of the class not paying attention) were flinging t-shirts into the crowd for freebies .. well the "president" (and sometime CA poster) of the aforementioned fine bunch took it upon himself to send the t-shirt back trackside and the t-shirt tennis began. Those of you who witnessed it will understnad - it was superb. For the full story go to http://www.the-twats.com (http://www.the-twats.com) - marvellous!!!

I was stook to the right hand side of them , and it was a scream, completely makes the atmosphere.

Do you ever re member in 2001 the bloke with the Bag pipes who stood most of the 24 hours near the Bentley Pit and everytime she came past , he would pipe up with a tune.

Fantastic

Let the t-shirt tennis commence ..... Peter Baron launches a shirt T W A T bound ....

After several exchanges, the Orbit driver manages to evade the boys and the shirt is forever lost in the crowd .. not to be outdone, the President returns the favour with his own shirt which Peter BAron proudly (?) puts on!

Cheers hgb!

And still on the subject of projectiles, can't remember which year it was but early to mid 90s I think, remember being quite in the pre-race mood (had too many beers standing on the terraces) and standing close to some chappies who were fervently supporting anything British and along came Tiffany Dell and he was playing along to his supporters and was complaining it was a tad hot on the grid, so one of the chaps nearby took it upon himself to lob a full and unopened can of (yuk) Fosters at Mr. Needell which he very wisely sidestepped and it hit the ground bursting everywhere. We quickly distanced ourselves from the aforementioned chaps for fear of being ejected for loutish behaviour!

That's disgracefull, Rickmeister... not only because they jeopardised the health of Tiff Needell but aforemost because they wasted one can of liquid gold. :o Those guys deserved to get shot on the spot.

Liquid gold - Fosters is terrible, Its no proper Amber Nectar.

Now carlsberg, thats a man lage and throwing that is a crime.

Opp Locker - They also race a Spyker, this year a Lambo GTS-R and MORGANS.

Le Mans its a strange old world.

The T.W.A.T.S pics say (IMHO anyway) a hell of a lot about what the race and the whole event is all about...  Great effort boy's...

Could you see Mr Brawn or Mr Todt doing the same as Mr Baron...

Just makes me long even more for next year...

Well, yes but you need to use the word "raced" in its broadest possible sense.  ;)

The car was a long way from sorted but looked and sounded great!

Three weeks after LM they tested the Pagani at Spa during the test day for the 24 Hours. The pace was way off the mark so that they decided to use the Viper during the actual race.

Forgot to add: The Viper didn't last too long either. After some twenty minutes Mike Hezemanns stuffed it into the tyre wall at Eau Rouge.  :-\

Another classic at Lemans.
I'm in the process of putting in a 355 bhp engine and 6 speed manual box.Well you got to have something to do over Xmas.

Nice T/A you got there, PM, though it may be frowned upon, because you are not running a wheezing K series four banger. Out of interest is it a 305 or a 350? I had an IROC with a 350 TPI and that motor can be merely chipped to knock out nearly 300bhp. A high-flow intake, long-tube headers, removal of cats and some gasflowing of the intake would get you up around 330. If you've not driven a GM manual, check one out before you take that step - they're not great IMO - very truck-like, long throw etc. - even in the 'vette. Your 4 spd auto would need a shift-kit to toughen it up for the heightened hp you're going to put through it, but it will cope (mine did) with simple mods and the slusher will give you better et's than the manual anyway. Either way, nice car - you should be proud of it.

I thought it was only Mrs Doubtfire that was the Welsh specialist at modding and tuning American muscle......or does it run in the local blood?

Any body want ther 8th oldest Triumph Stag in the world for a restoration project.

Matt,
Ive already got a B&M Auto box in it plus Heads, cam, headers exhaust etc etc but ive just about run out of things to do to it.Its a 305 by the way.
The motor I am fitting is the ZZ4 with a Holley Stealth Ram set up.
The 6 speed is the T56 as fitted to Vette,Viper and newer Camaros and Transams but with a B&M short throw shifter
I admit that if i were driving this everyday,I would probably leave the auto in it but just for trips to LM and other european circuits I think the manual will be more fun.
Also Doubtfire is having all my other stuff(only done 20,000 miles)for his 34 Hot Rod

Well impressed with the tunnel-ram, PM. You're sure going to have your work cut out, keeping the 'check engine' light off, with that bad boy fitted! Not sure how you are going to mate up to your mass airflow equipment without driving the computer bozzwank though.
Couldn't agree more about having a manual tranny for occasional use - and it makes the engine more 'driveable'. I found that fitting a Trans-Go shift kit in my A4 made a massive difference. It really toughened-up the transmission and the shifts themselves. Mine launches significantly harder than a 6 speed, without the worry of frying the clutch. I'd be interested to hear how it all works out.
If you need any parts, gimme a holler - I've one or two contacts in the trade, who's pricing is quite friendly.
Matt

Lovely shot of the Zonda, Rickmeister!

What body/lense/film/settings you using? Or is it Photoshop  ;)

Title: Re:Couple of pics
Post by: powermite on December 19, 2003, 09:33:17 pm
Matt,
The HSR comes with everything, including the ECU and wiring. Its not a mass air flow system and all the original will be thrown away.
Tuneups are done on a lap top too.
The ZZ4 is avaiable off the shelf here but if you can get me a good deal on the Holley set up,I would be more than interested.
The Holley  part number i need is,
91503201 and the cost from places such a Summit and Jegs is $2289.00
Anything you can do would be greatly appreciated

Thanks DR!! Camera details: Canon EOS3 body, Canon 35-350 lens (could only afford one good one so had to go for a utility lens, which unfortunately compromises depth of field capability). Shutter speed when shooting head on normally 1/500th.

Nothing Wrong with a K series, especially when its 75p a litre of go go juice.

No probs fax!

Rickmeister - Depth of field: is that all down to the lense?  It is something I have trouble with (with the camera, and not my eyes, well, until the bottle of red is empty!)

Title: Re:Couple of pics
Post by: Mr. Rick on December 20, 2003, 10:40:17 pm
All down to aperture on the lens. Basically, the smaller the f-number, the shorter the "depth of field" and therefore higher blurring of anything out of focus. The big boys (Grand Fromage included) have some truly super lenses (these big chaps that are about an arms length!) which can produce really pin sharp objects whilst the background looks super blurry.

My utility lens is great in the pit lane at this but when out trackside (and hence telephoto at full stretch), I struggle to really blur the background with head on stuff. Obviously no problem when panning as the blurring is done by a longer shutter speed (I use anything from 1/80 on the slower corners such as Arnage to around 1/125 at other parts of the track).

Below is an example of good depth of field in the pit lane.
