Title: Could someone with ACO connections check this out.
Post by: Barry on May 15, 2015, 04:47:29 pm
Eve Hewitt from RLM is suggesting on FB ( Midweek Motorsports listeners collective) that this ought to be checked out:

Could someone with good contacts ask the ACO whether GA's will be sold on the gates this year?

I don't want to start a panic, and I cannot see the ACO not selling on the gates, they would have to call out the CRS to deal with the French spectators, but the suggestion has been put into the public domaine by someone who has a lot of contacts. Of course this might just be trying to 'encourage' people to use agencies to get their tickets. (Cynical old me!)

I'll check it out.

Seems unlikely that GA tickets wouldn't be available. It might of course be that GA may be available at the "Rotonde" but not at the entry gates.

If you could, we would be very grateful GF!   :)

More likely that you won't be able to collect the tickets you've paid for on-line at the gate.
There's no indication on the ACO French site that you have to buy GEs in advance.
As for pushing sales towards the agencies, no way - you can still buy GEs direct on-line and print them at home, see http://ticket.lemans.org/mes-dates-billets-dentree-auto

Advice was to check with a particular agency on what was happening.

Call me cynical - is it possible that this rumour/information was put out by the agency mentioned?

Enquiries so far suggest that there is no plan to stop selling GA tickets on race week.

It is however possible that ACO camping passes will not be available.

I'll continue digging up a definitive answer...

Yea the ticket agencies have suffered since on-line buying. Years ago one agency said we could only buy GA tickets through them with their 10%. Robbing bastards.

A difficult question, as the ACO don't want to sell, and the agencies want to throw in a ferry or access to their "executive marquee".  A quick check with one of the more reputable agencies suggests over 50% for 2 entrance and a Beusejour.  For us its about 25%, but we get what we want at that price.  There is no other option.  And I know about exchange risks, and arguing with the ACO to get an allocation in the first place, so we get good value.

Blimey it adds up then. We have no problems with the ACO but we dont care where we camp. In fact its nice to have a change and even a supprise. Always struck luckey with our neighbours though.

Barry

I spoke to the ACO this morning.
Yes you can buy GEs at the gates this year as usual.
They thought I was mad to ask the question. I blamed my mad "ami anglais"  ::)
