Title: WEC Silverstone Post by: Bonio on February 10, 2015, 08:00:48 pm I'm intending to attend again this year, though I live very close to the circuit, I may have a few fellow CA's arriving from a far off place. My intention if they do decide to come is to make more of a weekend of it. So what I need to know is there any info out there with regards to camping options and are any other CA's going to attend for a few kegs or three?
Title: Re: WEC Silverstone Post by: Barry on February 10, 2015, 11:10:13 pm Almost certainly going, but race day only, have a virgin coming with us to LM who I have to get up to speed on the intricacies of sports car racing.

Title: Re: WEC Silverstone Post by: garyfrogeye on February 11, 2015, 04:43:12 pm I camped for the weekend when the Silverstone Classic was on. It was the main Silverstone campsite, one roundabout down from the main entrance (and the name escapes me). It was really excellent with a number of food stands, it's own pub and entertainment in addition to the main stage. Excellent security, various kind of pitches available from tent pitches to full motorhome parking facilities, electricity, water etc. I really enjoyed my stay there. Having said that, it was in the middle of summer and we had beautiful weather all weekend. I seem to remember that it cost about £50 for two night's, me, the tent and the Frogeye.
Title: Re: WEC Silverstone Post by: landman on February 12, 2015, 02:41:45 pm Probably Sunday only, but that depends entirely on the weather closer to the day.
Don't fancy freezing my t1ts off on the Saturday night - it was bad enough at Spa back in 2013, and that was May! Wonder if they'll remember to open the bar on Sunday this year? Title: Re: WEC Silverstone Post by: Barry on February 12, 2015, 04:44:05 pm Seem to remember finding a bar open last year. Huge choice of Guinness or some crappy lager served by muppets who didn't know how to pour a pint.
Title: Re: WEC Silverstone Post by: Kristof on February 12, 2015, 04:46:35 pm Present if I get credentials for ELMS again this year. Doesn't look promising though :(
Title: Re: WEC Silverstone Post by: championaudi on February 13, 2015, 09:33:20 pm Does anyone know if there is Friday public access this year for WEC practice / ELMS quali ?
the Silverstone website is useless as if doesn't even list he ELMS meeting Title: Re: WEC Silverstone Post by: Bonio on February 14, 2015, 08:36:31 am Looking at the golf club, stayed there before around 2000 for an ALMs race. Thing is it seems a little pricey.. May just drive each day.
Title: Re: WEC Silverstone Post by: Dirk3D_NL on February 14, 2015, 11:30:39 am I might go, not too sure yet, depends on work and available flights

Anyone in their right mind would never go back, see you there !!
Title: Re: WEC Silverstone Post by: Barry on February 15, 2015, 11:34:15 am IIRC it was reported that 2 of the pit girls had to be treated for hypothermia.
I'm afraid that watching 60+ girls freezing is not my idea of entertainment. I know the voyeurs out there would be disappointed, but they really should have had been given more cloths to wear. In some areas motor sport really has to grow up, especially if it wants to attract larger attendances. Title: Re: WEC Silverstone Post by: JDS on February 15, 2015, 11:52:42 am I'm pretty sure that was right Baz, in fact, just before they went out they were expected to be out without even the cr@ppy flimsy coats they ended up being given, it was shocking and the WEC and S/Stone got a bit of a rollocking over it all on RLM IIRC (and totally justifiably so in my opinion). god it was miserable that weekend - great racing though.

But, via fiawec.com the following; Woodlands Campsite - will be open for this event. You can add camping tickets when purchasing your weekend tickets! Title: Re: WEC Silverstone Post by: geoffd on February 18, 2015, 09:46:32 am If you go to http://www.silverstone.co.uk/events/2015-fia-world-endurance-championship/tickets (http://www.silverstone.co.uk/events/2015-fia-world-endurance-championship/tickets) then you can add Woodlands camping to your ticket purchase.

In some areas motor sport really has to grow up, especially if it wants to attract larger attendances. 5 girls were removed from the grid last year, i gave 2 of my layers to 2 girls, and many other marshals gave up their coats to keep the girls warm. If I'm expected to stand out in the cold, I'll do it warmly, if we are to have grid girls, am sure there are much warmer clothes to dress them in. It was disgusting, no duty of care from the organisers. RLM quite rightly laid into them for it. I'll be there from Thursday evening, though, am not sure yet if I'll be working or spectating Sunday Title: Re: WEC Silverstone Post by: Snoring Rhino on February 19, 2015, 08:14:09 pm We are planning on bringing Max to his first race meeting, along with Zak of course - his 3rd WEC aged 3 and a bit.
