Good (and a shock) to see this was started in a government agency Title: Re: People who move in next to a race track and then complain about the noise. Post by: Barry on December 03, 2014, 09:22:46 am Done.
This should be extended to people who move next to cricket greens as well. Title: Re: People who move in next to a race track and then complain about the noise. Post by: enzo on December 03, 2014, 01:08:03 pm Done !
Title: Re: People who move in next to a race track and then complain about the noise. Post by: Nordic on December 03, 2014, 03:07:57 pm Done but I do see a whole raft of problems and some tracks in the past have taken the piss with agreed running, extending hours and noise limits etc.
Will I think impact future planning for track and other noisy applications if you restrict the right to complain. It could also impact house prices in affected area if you limit the rights to complain on this basis, so could face legal challenges based upon that. Title: Re: People who move in next to a race track and then complain about the noise. Post by: Grand_Fromage on December 03, 2014, 07:25:42 pm I don't think it will affect those issues. If a circuit runs out of hours or over limits, that is a different matter. All this does is stop people moving in next to a track then bleating to the council about the noise.

Yes it happens. I've heard of an example and apparently Mallory Park set a trap by telling locals when events were on, and the list included a few "dummies", and the muppets still complained. So much of this stuff is road legal too

Post by: aricus654 on December 07, 2014, 10:08:47 pm It's not just the UK. There was a move to close Spa Franchochamps a few years ago by locals who thought it was a bit too noisy. I did a track day there a couple of years ago and a Ferrari was black flagged and sent home for being over the noise limit. Presumably, the people complaining must be new comers as the track opened in 1922. How anyone could buy a house and not notice that there was a world class F1/Sports Car circuit beggars belief. It would be like buying a house on the Mulsanne straight and then complaining! Aricus Title: Re: People who move in next to a race track and then complain about the noise. Post by: Lorry on December 08, 2014, 03:41:16 pm Monza has trouble too because (like Brands Hatch) its in ancient woodland or something. It would have been used for housing if the circuit wasn't there. There was a petition to save the old banking a few years back too
Title: Re: People who move in next to a race track and then complain about the noise. Post by: Grand_Fromage on December 09, 2014, 10:08:28 pm Monza is a suburb of Milan and the track is embedded in a public park fairly near the centre of the town, that is the problem. The park also hosts the Milan Golf Club right next to the circuit. The old Monza banking in fact reduces the noise problem by reflecting it upwards.

Probable cause is rectile disfunction, and they need serious therapy >:D Title: Re: People who move in next to a race track and then complain about the noise. Post by: Boorish Grobian on December 10, 2014, 07:18:31 pm This isn't a new problem in Europe, circuits like Monza, and the Osterreichring (now the Red Bull Ring) have been fighting with the Greenies for decades.
Mercifully this hasn't been much of a problem over here, most of the active classic circuits are still in relatively remote locations (Road America, Watkins Glen, Mid-Ohio, Sebring, etc.), but I can certainly see a time in the not to distant future where it gets to be an issue. There's been a great deal of development around Road Atlanta over the past decade or so. IMS sits right smack in the middle of a residential community (named Speedway) on the west side of Indianapolis, but that will never be touched, most of the people choose to live there because of the speedway.
