Title: Vulcan bomber leaves RAF Waddington for the last time Post by: Grand_Fromage on July 12, 2014, 10:51:43 pm It was the last chance for people in Lincolnshire to see the Vulcan bomber in action on Friday. Crowds gathered at RAF Waddington to watch the Vulcan XH558, which was delivered to the base in 1960, take off and perform a special flypast. The Vulcan's engines will reach the end of their life next year and Waddington's runway will also be out of service for repairs in 2015.

Title: Re: Vulcan bomber leaves RAF Waddington for the last time Post by: Chris24 on August 20, 2014, 12:11:36 pm For anyone in the Lincoln / Waddington area, XH558 will be landing at Waddington again today, Wednesday 20th @ 15:00 hrs. She is staying overnight and will be joined on the ground at Waddington at 10 am by both Lancasters for a photo shoot in front of a public parking area being set up for the event.
Both Lancasters will take off at approx 2 pm on Thursday and depart, followed by XH558 as she sets off for Clacton on Sea airshow. Title: Re: Vulcan bomber leaves RAF Waddington for the last time Post by: smokie on August 20, 2014, 05:19:58 pm Another forum says:
From the Vulcan site. Although we can’t be exact to the actual route, there are three key places where you should catch a glimpse of the three-ship formation. - Overhead the eastern edge of Lincoln at approx. 13:30 - Overhead RAF Coningsby at 13:45 - Overhead RAF Marham at 14:00 All times approx. and are subject to change. Watch our Twitter feed, Facebook page or App Tracker for the latest positional and timing reports. There is also a good map of the routing twitter.com/XH558 Title: Re: Vulcan bomber leaves RAF Waddington for the last time Post by: mgmark on August 21, 2014, 09:42:55 am We're looking at slot start today of 1416 for the flypast at Marham - arriving together - of the Vulcan, with both Lancs, a Spitfire and a Hurricane; then followed by their various displays before the slot time ends at 1445.
If in the area, then other stuff is displaying from 1200 through until 1630. All in support of RAF Marham Families Day, which is a station event for RAF Marham personnel and families - hence, sadly, I haven't been able to cast the net wider to get others in. I was out and about on Friday 'artnoon somewhere around the Haslemere part of the world when I heard this awful racket, at first I thought someone was after me with a herd of badly tuned lawnmowers then I realized the din was from above. Looking up (isn't that sooo uncomfortable these days?), and then lying down, I could hardly believe what was up there. There was 3 or maybe 4 triplanes, and what looked like a recon type biplane (lots of windows and a Sainsbury's trolley for undercarriage), and worst of all at least 3 of them were sporting German insignia. I couldn't tell from where I was, but I imagine most of Haslemere were putting on their tin hats and heading for the bunkers. I quickly phoned a friend in Berlin and asked him what the word on the streets was, but he couldn't (or wouldn't...) tell me anything. That was two days ago, and as far as I can tell Surrey isn't yet in the hands of the Hun, so maybe Haslemere's residents are back out in the daylight now, mind you, you can't be too careful though.
The planes looked fantastic! H Hmm, I'm not sure if I'd be flattered on insulted if someone told me I had undercarriage like a Sainsbury's trolley. I think I'd be flattered, not sure about Sainsburys though. Title: Re: Vulcan bomber leaves RAF Waddington for the last time Post by: Stu on August 31, 2014, 11:27:38 pm That'll be them Fokkers H

All this on the site of an outstanding aviation museum whose café serves legendary bacon sarnies. See you there! That Twitter feed is very useful when tracking her, I think it must be kept up to date by one of the flight crew "We're coming in to Elvington now, give us a wave" is the sort of info it gives live Almost makes me like Twitter sort of... The longest Bomb raid in history. Airfields who needs stinking airfields ;D when there is no LAND just Sea. Think of the consequences of some of their decisions.
