Title: Surprise French Bank Holiday Post by: Truck on January 18, 2014, 04:36:00 pm Well it caught me anyway
As the Sunday before the race is Whit Sunday, Monday 9th is therefore a bank holiday. So the major supermarkets etc will be shut on Sunday and Monday Title: Re: Surprise French Bank Holiday Post by: LuxExpat on January 20, 2014, 03:40:02 pm I suspect those in/around LM/Arnage won't close, if they know what's good for them, but it's not a "surprise" holiday at all.
Title: Re: Surprise French Bank Holiday Post by: JDS on January 21, 2014, 08:34:46 am "in general" (and I say that in a tone leaving a LOT of room for manoeuvre!), with the exception of the very small supermarkets in tiny towns in the middle of nowhere, most 'chain' (franchise) supermarkets here are open on minor bank holidays now but of course, it's better to be prepared! A good rule of thumb would be Christmas, New Year, Easter, Labour day and any other holiday that the store manager fancies a long weekend away with his mistress .... ;D
Title: Re: Surprise French Bank Holiday Post by: Snoring Rhino on January 21, 2014, 11:11:45 pm Given that the Intermarch in Arnage was closed on Race Sunday last year there is not much hope of it being open.
Title: Re: Surprise French Bank Holiday Post by: garyfrogeye on January 22, 2014, 09:16:04 am Isn't the Monday after the Le Mans weekend usually a bank holiday? I seem to remember that a lot of places are closed on our return journey.

I seem to remember that a lot of places are closed on our return journey. The places I go to are open on the Monday, but it does depend on the mistressesThe practice day used to suffer, as most French bank holidays are in May - Labour/May Day, WWII Victory Day, Mother's Day and Ascension Day. And usually Whit Monday, but its late this year. Then there's a gap to Bastille day in the middle of July. Won't get fooled again Title: Re: Surprise French Bank Holiday Post by: geoffd on January 23, 2014, 01:55:04 pm The places I go to are open on the Monday, but it does depend on the mistresses Christ, how many do you have???? :o Title: Re: Surprise French Bank Holiday Post by: johnhere on January 24, 2014, 06:36:16 pm The Carrefour supermarket in MULSANNE (not Le Mans as I said in my post) in open Sunday mornings, its the only supermarket I know that opens on a Sunday and has done for about a year (It can get very busy).
A few small shops open here and there. John Title: Re: Surprise French Bank Holiday Post by: Fisherman on January 24, 2014, 11:52:23 pm What's the chance of us finding somewhere open on a bank holiday?
