read in daily sportscar sorry i dont know how to put the link thingy up.anyway it sounds like a great idea instead of holding up the whole circuit and giving false race results etc.hindy will have to find something else to bitch about.

Errm yes.
The Code 60 "marshal in the cockpit" system is supposed to reduce the need for SC periods by flagging by lights in the car rather than waved flags by marshals. Also it could potentially cut in the pit lane speed limiter automatically.

Hindy was talking this up during the Bahrain WEC coverage, he is in favour of this, all they need to do is get the GPS system accurate. Well, in my mind they have the infrastructure in place already, the Postes. A feed to each marshals post to engage the 'Code 60' system in each car, ie, activated at a preceding Point and deactivated once passed the incident - this could certainly work as a back up to a GPS unit

Sounds like a great idea if it works ok, to many races in the last 10 years have been effected by safety car issues.

How would this work in terms of different points on the circuit?
For example - a car at the end of the run to Indy, suddenly losing power, would surely:
a) Give the driver a hell of a negative deceleration without warning.
b) take a lot longer to slow down to the regulation speed, than someone who has just come out of Mulsanne and is just starting to accelerate.
It seems like a great idea - I'm just curious as to how they can level stop drivers gaining and advantage, and how they can avoid hurting drivers who are braced for something, and receiving something else?
For example - a car at the end of the run to Indy, suddenly losing power, would surely:

How about this for example:
1. Yellow light comes on.
2. Driver lifts and slows to 60 or applies limiter voluntarily.
3. If driver fails to slow within 5 seconds then limiter cuts in automatically.

Interesting to see how this could work, just thinking that if a car is barreling down the Mulsanne in top and all of a sudden the pit limiter suddenly cam on this could cause more trouble than it solves if there is a car close behind and/or cause some nasty damage to the engine ..... ?

RAM Racing were hit twice at Dubai 12 hours by cars ramming them when slowing down for Code 60.
