Found the earlier C2 cars worse, They were slow, so the noise lasted longer and there always seemed to be one going by!!

The BF Goodwich Lolas were pretty ear wrenching as well when loaded up with a Mazda.

Looks like he was breathing very hard.

>Martini...LB

PS. Back when it was in the race I was told they could not hear the car go past during the night when I was snoring  ;D

Thanks for the reminder PM, always brings a grin to my face that one.

Never saw it compete at LM proper (excluding historics) but did see one competing at Brands in a 1000km race back in the 80's. Quite impressive when standing about 10 feet away on the infield on the run up to Druids, all scream and flames on the overrun. Was also competing with a certain Mr. Schumacher in one of the Merc C11 Group C cars. Still sticks in the memory.....

Not forgetting, of course, the racket made by the front-engined Panoz as that thing lumbered round the track.

Fantastic sound. Always admired the 787. Anyone remember the white un blowing smoke rings circa 1990?

This threat got me thinking. Whatever happened to Volker Weidler?? Fantastic driver.

Ah yes, Volker Weidler.... http://www.oldracingcars.com/driver/Volker_Weidler (http://www.oldracingcars.com/driver/Volker_Weidler)

And here was my angle on the Herbie run in 2011. Beautiful thing to behold with both eyes and ears. Remember sitting on the banking by the MB campsite as the car took the lead in 1991 with the Merc stricken in the pits. The roar from the grandstand was incredible as it went past up the pit straight, easily heard down at MB!!

I recall hearing somewhere that Volker was advised on medical grounds to retire from racing as he was going deaf (787 couldn't have helped much) and he magnanimously recommended Heinz Harald Frentzen to take his then place in formula nippon even though he was leading the championship at the time.
