Title: termietermite Post by: Mr Termite on August 29, 2012, 11:31:22 am Hi, guys and gals. When I post under this heading you may guess what comes next. Deb had been in the UK for three weeks, had been in great company with a number of you here and there, had had a really good hol - but about 10 days ago her appetite vanished, and there was general and increasing discomfort down below due to massive bloating. She soldiered on, enjoying Silverstone WEC with Wishy and Brad - maybe others? - but was quickly running out of energy. Tuesday she managed to drive to Calais, where I met her, having gone by train, and I drove her home. We saw our GP, who referred her to A&E in Le Mans. She spent the night there on oxygen, with a drip (not me!) and has had an ECG and a scan, and now also has a tube down her throat. She has recently told me she is being referred to Oncology, and I expect to vist her there this afternoon.
Not good news, but there we are - it may get better, and as ever, I'll try to keep you posted. You all mean a great deal to Deb, and your support for us both over the last four years has certainly helped me. Title: Re: termietermite Post by: smokie on August 29, 2012, 12:18:15 pm Sorry to hear about Deb - please pass on my best wishes, and you take care of yourself...
Title: Re: termietermite Post by: Bob U on August 29, 2012, 12:41:27 pm I spent a couple of hours with Deb at Silverstone and although she appeared to be in quite a bit of discomfort she was her usual chatty, friendly self. Please pass on my best regards and tell we are all thinking of her.

Title: Re: termietermite Post by: Mr Termite on August 30, 2012, 07:58:00 pm Take a deep breath chaps - Deb's cancer is back, but now on her liver. More than that I don't know at present, but, as ever, I'll try to keep you informed.

Title: Re: termietermite Post by: Brad Zarse on August 30, 2012, 09:01:31 pm I'm composed now, so I'm going to do my best to write this before I lose it again.
As some of you know, on Sunday, I had to leave Silverstone in a hurry, owing to a major bereavement in my family. I did so, with Debs keys in my pocket. Debs was (as is in her very nature) incredible about it. Not only did she wait patiently for me for about 45 minutes after my ETA whilst I battled my way through a major accident on the M40 to get them back to her - when I arrived, she greeted me with a warm smile - noticing my distress she gave me a massive hug, before telling me to keep my chin up and sending me back to my wife and child to cope with their distress. I knew she was ill. I told her to get her arse to the doctor. Debs, without your kindness and generosity on Sunday, one of the worst days of my life so far, would have been even worse. My thoughts, prayers and hopes are with both Debs, and you, Ian. Title: Re: termietermite Post by: Kpy on August 30, 2012, 10:48:20 pm Sorry to hear about this.
Get well soon Deb. Title: Re: termietermite Post by: sceetum on August 30, 2012, 11:49:17 pm Sorry to hear this. Thoughts and best wishes to both of you. Get well soon Deb
Title: Re: termietermite Post by: mulc99 on August 31, 2012, 04:16:09 am Thinking about you both.
Get well soon Deb. Title: Re: termietermite Post by: Brian(Liverpool boys) on August 31, 2012, 12:02:16 pm You are in my thoughts, get well soon Deb's.
Title: Re: termietermite Post by: Mr Termite on August 31, 2012, 12:08:43 pm Brad - Deb was very eloquent about the effort you had put in to return her keys, in the face of enormous pain at home. She had told me the whole detailed story on the way back from Calais, and had clearly been mortified (sorry!) by your evident distress.
She thinks you are a hell of a fella! Just had a txt to say she's been seen by a psychologist, a masseuse, and a doctor. The old lady, probably gaga, with whom she's been sharing since Weds p.m., is being moved out. I visit this afternoon, natch, and we may try to get Deb online. It goes without saying that CA warmth goes a long way with us, TVM to all. Title: Re: termietermite Post by: Snoring Rhino on August 31, 2012, 11:02:08 pm Take a deep breath chaps - Deb's cancer is back, but now on her liver. More than that I don't know at present, but, as ever, I'll try to keep you informed. Sorry I have not been around for a while Ian, sorry to hear Deb's news, all strength and best wishes to her.Title: Re: termietermite Post by: garyfrogeye on September 01, 2012, 12:05:49 am Oh Blimey Ian!
Please send Debs our best (that's Lois and me), the two of you have certainly been through it since the accident. Please you also look after yourself. Hopefully in the next day or so we can communicate directly with Debs through the medium of the interweb, but in the meantime, our thoughts and prayers are with both of you. And so many thanks for the updates. Gary Title: Re: termietermite Post by: Canada Phil on September 01, 2012, 05:29:22 am Hi Ian,

Title: Re: termietermite Post by: Mr Termite on September 01, 2012, 07:36:56 pm While I would love to tell you that Deb is feeling better, I can't. She is still dreadfully short of breath - despite the oxygen supply bieng increased earlier today - to the point of being unable to plug the lead into her netbook. She spends a lot of time rinsing her mouth out - with Coke! This is provided for her, as is a bowl to expectorate afterwards. No doubt a tiny % goes down her throat. She is also using one of those water atomiser sprays. I cannot claim that the hospital aren't caring. After all, it's the weekend, when we know from experience not much happens, and since attempts to drain her abdomen have failed up to now, we had little hope for today. But they did their best, sending her for an ultra-sound scan, to look for the best place to make an incision. Sadly even this didn't work, so she still looks very pregnant. She is now on morphine, and some sort of drug to stop her worrying - thanks, psychologist!
I'm sure they will solve the bloating problem - it took a few days last year, and that was in a surgical ward - but it can't happen soon enough for me, or the patient. She will have a knockout drop tonight, so should sleep a bit more. Her new room-mate, a lady of 54, is obviously well-known to the staff, and we wonder if she has a brain tumour, as she really is out of it, sleeps a lot, clearly not at all affected by these Anglais jabbering away in the next bed! You can always find someone worse off than you. I visit tomorrow, but unless there is some turnaround will not bore you with all the same dreary stuff. Hopefully Monday more resources will be brought to bear! Title: Re: termietermite Post by: Perdu on September 01, 2012, 09:48:53 pm Oh hell and soddit

Title: Re: termietermite Post by: mgmark on September 02, 2012, 08:34:41 pm It was good to catch up with Deb at Le Mans this year and enjoy some irrepressible banter, but wasn't able to get to Silverstone to continue it.
I know you'll keep us up to speed, but "bugger" re the latest news. All the very best - to the both - of you. Mark Title: Re: termietermite Post by: powermite on September 02, 2012, 09:21:32 pm Terms

Title: Re: termietermite Post by: Mr Termite on September 03, 2012, 11:05:00 pm Sorry, chaps, I was called back to the hospital tonight, and you know what that implies. In fact Deb is still with us, and I left when she said she'd had enough and wanted to sleep - but the hospital think she could be gone at any time. Evidently today's exams have shown various other problems, and she's beyond real help except of the comforting sort, which she is getting in spades.
Title: Re: termietermite Post by: Rhino on September 03, 2012, 11:33:02 pm I'm really sorry Ian. Thoughts are with you.

Title: Re: termietermite Post by: Brad Zarse on September 04, 2012, 01:08:16 am Wishing you the strength that Debs inspired in me over my hour of need Ian - she'll perhaps never know quite how much of a difference her kindness made to me on Sunday, and the strength that it gave me to cope with the events which played themselves out on Wednesday as well.
Title: Re: termietermite Post by: Werner on September 04, 2012, 07:18:51 am Stay strong, Ian, whatever happens, our thoughts are with Deb and you.
Title: Re: termietermite Post by: Barry on September 04, 2012, 09:25:55 am Can't really put into words how I feel hearing this news, just about everyone else has been much more eloquent than I could be. For the second time we have returned from France to hear that Deb is in hospital, with a poor prognosis. Deb fought back after her accident, and both Jo and I hope and pray that she will pull through this latest set back. Send her our love, and as others have said, Ian, make sure you look after yourself while supporting Deb.
Title: Re: termietermite Post by: Lazy B'stard on September 04, 2012, 09:53:50 am Double crossing everything now. I hope this works out well. Keep positive everyone, and Ian, you look after yourself too. If you need owt at all, just ask.

Title: Re: termietermite Post by: Mr Termite on September 05, 2012, 09:57:14 am I was invited yesterday to stay in Deb's bedroom ovenight, and my night at the hospital could certainly have been worse. I arrived about 8, and the bed was all made up. Deb was being a bit restless, kept displacing the oxy mask. When I replaced it and asked her to wear it "just for me", there was a bit of a nod. Later in the night the nurses were concerned that she was displacing the bedclothes as well, and applied a foil blanket - surely the world's noisest bed-linen when the patient is restless! Deb has a history of waking up with fewer covers than she started with, so this was not news to me. About 2 they found it "necessary" to change the bed (i.e. it was!), but seemed to do so without any resentment. They also adjusted the medication, and from then on Deb slept soundly, as did I for a few hours. Regular checks were made throughout the night and I cannot fault the service, really, just smashing girls. I left just after 7, drove the 25 miles home in the overcast dawn. I am welcome there tonight - if there is a need.
Thankyou for all the warmth. I am finding it very therapeutic to write this stuff down, but apologise for sometimes providing "too much information". It is quite hard to be truly balanced in every judgement just now! Title: Re: termietermite Post by: Jason on September 05, 2012, 10:06:18 am .. Am sure I speak for all here by saying that if putting this down helps, and to do it to friends/fellow CA'ers, then do so. Most of us have met Debs and yourself, and have been touched by such lovely people as you are, so keep going and stay strongThankyou for all the warmth.
