Armstrong is in the same way implicated, but i doubt its within the USADA remit to remove wins in anything other than US races. Surley that should belong to UCI or the Tour itself. Cant say I'm an expert on anything to do with the tour, but do like to watch. Title: Re: Lance Armstrong Post by: Boorish Grobian on August 24, 2012, 06:42:38 pm I always did have my doubts about his credibility, and readily admit I've never cared for Lance the celebrity. Always found him to be something of a pompous ass.
There were just too many hushed rumors within, what was then a very small cycling fraternity in the US. The problem for Lance was always that once his colleagues, and teammates began getting busted, they were going to talk. He's also alienated some people who would have kept quiet, but are now willing to come forward. Problem is as pointed out above by Kristof and this morning on ESPN, he was probably a cheat, who won against a field of cheaters during that era. The one that really disappointed me was Tyler Hamilton, was always a big fan of his, and thought him a really good bloke. When he got busted it really turned me off to the sport. Is this how the Brits are winning :o I'd like a drugged Olympics - the one minute mile, the 30ft high jump, and the 100mph cyclist. I might stay awake

If I had to do the Tour De France I would take every known drug to Man Sh1t - I would need them all to do it!!!!! in that case if they were to drug test some of these super models, they would def show positive and clucking Bell - all they do is try and walk down a walkway ::) How come he's got away with it for so long? No positive test should equal not guilty. Title: Re: Lance Armstrong Post by: Martini...LB on August 25, 2012, 12:45:30 pm Probably the fact that they cannot find anything has pee'd them off.
There is a rumour that Bradley Wiggins may be banned for having dodgy facial hair... ;D >Martini...LB Title: Re: Lance Armstrong Post by: Andy Zarse on August 25, 2012, 01:07:51 pm There is no test for EPO.
Title: Re: Lance Armstrong Post by: Dangermouse on August 26, 2012, 11:43:42 am Look at the list of runner-ups.....if they were all on drugs then how the hell did Armstrong beat them?
It would be a monumental achievement if he did it drug free!! With regard to this year's Tour, times were down, and most noticeably in the mountains. Read this article, it shows you how to spot a potential cheat based on power outputs. Interesting stuff and note that these outputs were being achieved this year whereas in the past they were exceeded. For the record, I always had my doubts about the man :o http://www.sportsscientists.com/2010/07/power-outputs-from-tour-de-france.html Title: Re: Lance Armstrong Post by: Lorry on August 26, 2012, 09:29:35 pm Look at the list of runner-ups.....if they were all on drugs then how the hell did Armstrong beat them? Healthy living or he's the 6 Million Dollar Man? ;DIt would be a monumental achievement if he did it drug free!! ....... I think the penny has dropped But how did he clear the tests? And as Team GB & Sky are winning, what are they on, other than embarrassing facial hair Title: Re: Lance Armstrong Post by: nickliv on August 27, 2012, 06:31:53 pm Doping aside, he's done considerably more with one knacker than I will ever achieve with two.
The Livestrong foundation is a superb legacy to leave, and have helped us find our way through on more than one occasion. Title: Re: Lance Armstrong Post by: Andy Zarse on August 28, 2012, 03:50:44 pm Interesting article which clarifies the Armstrong backstory:

Title: Re: Lance Armstrong Post by: Lazy B'stard on September 05, 2012, 09:14:52 am Drugs have always been part of the fabric of the Tour. There is no point in trying to deny it. It's not great, but if everyone was on something then in a way it created a level playing field anyhow. It's the dodgy tight Lycra that troubles me. Bring back wool I say.
Title: Re: Lance Armstrong Post by: lofty on September 09, 2012, 11:31:21 am write up on armstrong was a real eyeopener for me.thamks for post.new breed of riders seem clean or have better chemists.its a great show 15 million spectators at road side.viva la tour.
Title: Re: Lance Armstrong Post by: Boorish Grobian on October 23, 2012, 02:49:47 am So today he's officially gone from the record books? I don't know what to say? I've spent twenty-five years of my fife as a cyclist, got away from it about eight years ago, when I hurt my hip and couldn't really ride hard anymore. I always thought him a self-important cheat, and met him, didn't think him to capable of it, but really didn't want think this hillbilly was really capable of this sort of manipulation of people.
Guess this is what they said of Hitler? Fax Title: Re: Lance Armstrong Post by: oldtimer on October 23, 2012, 09:20:07 am I don't really see how somebody cheating in a minority sport can under any circumstances warrant a comparison to Hitler. Outpourings of disappointment and indignation are fine but likening the actions of a cyclist to a fascist dictator and mass murderer seem rather extreme.

Title: Re: Lance Armstrong Post by: Boorish Grobian on October 23, 2012, 03:21:59 pm Not comparing his deeds to Hitler of course, perhaps more than a bit strong, but the way he manipulated of poeple? Alot of well meaning people & organizations got thrown under the bus by him. As someone said on ESPN last evening, he used the fact that he was a cancer survivor as something to hide behind, in effect saying "how dare you accuse me of anything, you must be against cancer survivors?"
There are many of those organizations who are now looking for their money back.
