Title: Hungarian Vizsla Puppy
Post by: JDS on January 24, 2012, 08:34:35 am
This is a bit of a long story, so bear with me on this ....

In Oct last year, a dear friend of mine and breeder of champion Hungarian Vizsla's passed away very suddenly leaving a large estate of animals (dogs, horses, sheep etc.) for her children to quickly find homes for. As we already had a Vizsla of hers we agreed to give a home to our current dog's brother, Teddy (Edward Bear of Nearly Heaven) and mother, Meg (Bicton Bear It All).

On Christmas day, we had an unexpected Christmas present when we came down to find that Meg  had given us two little puppies!, Gabriel and George (2011 dog's names must begin with a 'G'). She had been 'retired' after her last litter by Sue (the breeder and previous owner) and as Teddy is castrated, we know that prior to coming to us she must have had a 'final fling' with her 'husband' Leko (Visions of Success).

Anyhow, Meg is a great and very natural mother so up to now we have had very little need to do much other than the usual cooing and "aww, aren't they cute" moments as she has looked after the puppies and us exceptionally. So, the outcome is that we have two beautiful Vizsla puppies with excellent pedigree and lineage (both Meg and Leko are multiple champions, Meg's father Yogi has won just about everything, including being Crufts Supreme Champion in 2010 (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/health/petshealth/7449401/Crufts-winner-bows-out.html (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/health/petshealth/7449401/Crufts-winner-bows-out.html)) and Enah & Teddy have both already won Best & Reserve Best in Breed).

George will be going to close friends not far from us, but Gabriel will be looking for a new and loving home soon. The dogs will be fully registered with the Societe Centrale Canin (French Kennel Club) and it is a simple matter of completing a single form to change them to UK Kennel Club registration (or can remain on the French register), will be micro-chipped, fully wormed and vaccinated, have an EU Pet Passport and, if going to the UK, the law on importing dogs changed on Jan 1st and is now considerably more favourable with no 6-8 month waits after the rabies jab (merely 21 days) so we can arrange for the rabies inoculation and would look after the puppy until he could be collected (approx 12-15 weeks old).

Vizslas are working dogs but also make wonderful pets. They are loving and amazing with children (the main reason we originally got one), excellent swimmers and love nothing more than curling up with their 'humans' in front of the fire. They train easily and are excellent gun dogs if that's your 'thing'. We are not professional breeders (but learning fast!) and so not looking to make a profit but do need to cover the costs. Dogs with similar lineage are currently selling for around the £1000 mark so we are looking for £750 (or £825 if including the rabies jab) which represents excellent value.

The puppy will be available to collect around the beginning of March (or April/May if exporting to the UK) and if any prospective 'parents' are passing they you would be more than welcome to pop in and visit mum and the puppies.

Here's a few pics of the family:
