Title: Vintage Racing Programmes
Post by: Boorish Grobian on July 09, 2011, 08:38:21 pm
Afternoon Guys,
Thought I'd throw this out there.  As some of you know, I'm a collector of vintage sportscar racing & F1 programmes, and have accumulated a fairly extensive library.  However one that has managed to elude me, despite my best efforts is a 1978 Austrian GP official programme.  I got to thinking that some of our German, or Austrian colleagues may have some contacts I'm unaware of.  I've exhausted most of the British racing memorabilia and book sellers.  Every once in a blue moon one will show up on Ebay, but as my luck would have it, the last one that came up for auction was during Sebring week, and I missed it.  If anyone has any suggestions I'll be very grateful, and of course I'm willing to pony up a reward for anyone that can give me a tip that leads to one of these.  I'm willing to cough up some pretty serious dosh for one.  Send me a PM if anyone has any ideas.
Cheers,
Fax

Why don't you use a Sniper to help you out on eBay?

You put in the amount you want to go up to and then leave it to do its thing. It then automatically bangs in a bid in the very last second on your behalf.

I've been using a few snipers over the last 18 months to score the vintage mountain bikes that i collect. Success rate is around 90% and i find that the final price remains much lower as you are not having to show your hand so early. Some guy thinks he has the item in the bag and BAM shes gone to me! Not very sporting i guess but if it means you find your unicorn.....

I didn't know that was available, it would have really come in handy recently.  One of these became available in August, but apparently I wasn't using to correct seach phrases to locate it on Ebay, and the programme went to some guy in the Czech Republic for a hell of a lot less than I would have paid for it...Really pissed me off that I missed it.
Thanks for the advice,

Hi Nordic,
Yes I've seen those, unfortunately in both cases they're old web pages.  Both are long gone.
Its getting to be something of my white whale trying to track this down, it keeps escaping me.

Unfortunately that's an expired page too.  I contacted them about that one several months ago and its long gone.
Thanks for looking around though. :) I've actually purchased quite a bit of stuff from Eoin over the years, he has been a terrific source for memorabilia, especially in the pre-Ebay days.  I bought a '73 Dutch GP programme from him some time ago, that's a programme that's a rare as rocking horse pooh.  Obviously a tragic race, but a very historic one as well, being JYS's 26th GP win, beating Clark's record of 25, and has some terrific Michael Turner cover art.

Well this really stinks, there's one available in this lot on Ebay, but the bloke doesn't allow shipping to the US, so I can't bid on it.

John,
I'll have a punt if you like and send it to you if I win it - what sort of bid are you happy to go up to?

Hi Steve,
Sorry it took so long to reply, had to drive to Indy this morning for work and just got back.  I would be enormously grateful if you could win that for me, I'm willing to go pretty high, a couple hundred pounds if that's what it takes, and if your willing go that high (and I'm very happy willing to make it worth your effort).  I'm a honost guy and I'm good for it.  The auction ends tomorrow.
Let me know if your still up for it.
Big thanks Steve!
John

Well done Steve, can't thank you enough!
Again goes to show what a superb group of blokes (and birds of course) we have on this forum.  If there's anything I can ever do to help out with something over here, please don't hesitate to ask (this means everyone!)
Cheers Steve!
Will raise a toast to you tonight at the pub.

Fax, if it is any benefit, I could bring them over to Sebring in my luggage.

Saying that on the assumption that Mr Brown is not going to Sebring this year
is that right?

Big thanks for the offer SR, I wish I would be able to pick them up in person at Sebring. Unfortunately its not looking good for a trip to Sebring this year for me.  I've been outbid for the week of paid vacation from my employer, that I would require to go to Sebring.  That week could yet open up if one of my colleagues who currently has it, decides to re-schedule. But its a bit of a long-shot at this point.
Cheers,
