Title: Classic lap times
Post by: BigH on October 20, 2003, 06:00:40 pm
A query, not a quiz.

During the Classic at LM in 2002, where would some of the lap times have put the cars in this years LM grid proper? Did a GT40 or 917 put a better time in than say a GT3 or 360?

I reckon that should be a question for the fabled 'Chuck' of radion le-mans fame

I cannot understand how hard it is to find the lap times! the results are on www.lemansclassic.com but the lap time are not.
must be hiding something!

Hard, I should say so. I couldn't find a 'ting either. Maybe a spotters badge should be on order for this one.

Okeydoke, practice times as follows:

Fastest GT40 was Ray Bellm's in 4:49.982
The Rahal/Redman 917 was at 4:36.557

Fastest overall though was the no. 6 Lola T70 (of which I have no photo from the whole event!!!!  :o ) in 4:24.003!!

Cheers

Rick

Just realised why I didn't get a photo on track; the little beauty DNS in three of the four runs and only came out to play for 6 laps in the 3am shift!!!

A 4.24 lap would have put the Lola on the back row of the grid :o

Hmm, I had the fastast race lap (not qualifying) as Mark Hales in 1970 Ferrari 512S in 4'24"658.

I'm not sure how that would compare with the 2003 race times, but I don't think he'd be right at the back. Not bad for a 33 year old car.

Err, actually not, just hang on a minute....
It seems that a Mini Cooper driven by Barbara Cartlands remains posted a 3'10", and that would have put her right up there.

My times were the practice times H, got all the race times and results in a big pile tucked in a folder - needs sorting!!

That must be a Cooper S then.

I'd like to think a time on my Graham Weigh 7005 Protal wouldn't be too far off either!!  ;)

Yep round the Buggati circuit maybe .

But if i had that Focus TDi , well that would be a different story , maybe i can send the MG round in a few days and see what she does  :P
