Title: Final planning meeting
Post by: Barry on April 08, 2011, 04:55:42 pm
It has crossed my mind that a few things need to be sorted.

Planning meeting is urgently needed  ;D

If you can vote all of the days you can attend, I will ask Andy when the tickets will be available.

3 Frogs, Wokingham unless anybody has any other suggestions.

The location of the meet met some discussion a few weeks ago.

There are fewer of us based around Wokingham now and many travel through or past Reading.

Has anyone considered Reading as an alternative?

I can get the bus home from Reading

Well I'd vote for Reading  I can walk home from there.  8)  It's better for trains too.

Reading or Wokingham are fine by me - Its either left or right from Winnersh station!!

Perhaps the scenery may better on a sunny Friday night in Reading  ;)

We will just have to have last minute planning on Monday 6th June Martin!!  It will be too late to actually change anything but we should have got the hang of it by now.

:)

I'd also like to vote for Reading.

It's easier/quicker to get to/from, there are more hotels available and there's a wider selection of kebab houses to choose from after being kicked out of the pub.  ;D

I would also vote for reading as the trains are an easy run from Paddington. Somewhere near the station or walking distance fron the station.
I got taken aback by Dick Turpin Taxi's from Reading, the wallet too a month to recover

The trouble with Reading is finding a decent pub.  You've got the choice of teenage lager palaces, or something that looks like a squat.  Both Fullers pubs near the station have been trashed

See you soon.

What about the Gateway?
2 minutes walk from the station, or 10 minute crawl.
Foods pretty good as well.

Had a reply from AndY TL, tickets should be arriving early May, so middle dates might be better.

What about the Gateway?....
Formerly Scruffy Murphys and the Railway.

It only scores 6.5 - I was hoping for a 7 ;)

Could do a lot worse

The Gateway is our local when we go to London Irish matches, and was the pub we went to in Reading for Doris' leaving do (not that I remember anything about that part of the evening!!!!  :-\)  Martin (The Landlord) is a great guy and would make sure we are looked after well!

Personally I like the Back of Beyond.  It's not in the town centre and so it's not so busy and the beer is cheaper too.

I can't do the 27th, any other date is fine.

I don't really mind where either as I will have to travel regardless, so any hotels close by would be useful.

Gateways very near the station though for us travelling, less distance to carry Jo back for the train ;D

Also cheapy hotels nearby.

Subject to Andy & co having and sorting the tickets, shall we make it the Friday 13th May then?

Sounds good to me. We will be able to tell you all about the wonderful time we had at Spa ;D

The Travelodge is about 300 yards away, into town and turn right at what should be the high street,  and £25 the night

Now not staying overnight as the last train south is 23:34

30 min stop over in Amasingstoke should allow time for a crafty kebab  ;D

Will be travelling with Robin Hod

At least your going to Basingstoke, we've got to go to Slough :o
Last train east is about 01.39, but we'll aim for the 00.15.

I'm booked into the Ibis around the corner from the pub.
Woollies has several options I understand, but I might drag Trayboy along for laughs.

All please note, Reading FC have reached the play off finals for the premiership and are playing at home on Friday night. Expect Reading to be a lot busier.

Please note, Reading have NOT REACHED THE PLAYOFF FINAL....They have reached the Semi Final and the first game is AT READING on FRIDAY.  If they win it, I will be in VERY high spirits and straight to the pub.  If they don't, then I'll be very upset, and straight to the pub..... Football's a great game  ;D

Just as well I can't make it then.  ::)  Although Martin was very lovely to me when I was there in January.  Perhaps he has a short memory...

Meant the hotel, not the Gateway. Martin was very hospitable considering the state some of us arrived in.

The Ibis should be ok.  None of the really bad people stayed there.   ;)

Great to see everyone last night. Did anyone else notice how the noise level suddenly shot up around 10 o clock?

Thats probably why I have a sore throat this morning.

Good to see everyone, the final planning meeting is always a good one, shame they run out of London Pride, but good to drink draught Guiness again. ;D

Oh the irony....

The final planning meeting and yours truly missed the last train home despite careful advance planning & study of the timetables  ;)  seem to remember that I was deep in conversation with Zander & Hayley when I realised the time.  I only try & talk Dutch when I'm bolloxed, hence lack of time awareness I guess?

Great to see everyone last night, can't remember what I agreed to carry & who, if you can remember then let me know!

Big thanks to Jo & Barry for letting Robin & I crash at theirs last night - see you on the 6th, Barry, for our "handover" lunch [did we agree where?]

See you all on the 8th of June

Paul [Landman]

No, or what kit to bring, on the grounds that we would have forgotton by this morning.
Did agree that we would speak on phone nearer the time, re luncheon location and kit.
Prehaps we need a de-brief meeting of the final planning  meeting ;D

Sorry I could not make it, working on a last minute plan.....

I thought I was reasonably quiet and reserved when I arrived.....  Although 6 pints of Guiness + beers before the game, later, I was probably significantly louder.....

Good to see everyone, even if it was a bit of a fleeting visit!
