Title: DECENT BEER AT LE_MANS
Post by: saveloy on October 15, 2003, 11:52:29 am
What a titke, it's bound to cause some debate but, I am fed up with those dinky little bottles of unadulteraed cat's p*ss, they sere at the auchan etc. Does anyone, maybe you can help Gilles. know where to get hold of some decent german/czech brews in or around Le-mans, or do we have to ask some of the guy's coming from there to bring in a few crates. I bought over 24 bottles of beer, that only lasted 2 days. "I must have booze"

Sav, someone's being swapping the keys around on your keyboard again. Either that, or your'e using the well tried, usually late night technique, of keeping the right hand over the left eye while jabbing at the keys with the left index finger.

Never mind  the Czechs and Germans, what about about some decent French beer? When in Rome and all that.

Although, what is it with French breweries and additives? Whiskey, colours and fruit flavours to name a few. One year we tried to drink a bottle of every colour we could find, red, blue, white etc, but only succeeded in a spectacular tummy upset in the region of Clermont Ferrand.

I give this adress every year...
... so why not this year ?

Go to the "Palais de la Biere", it's just behind the Leclerc hypermarket in Allonnes, so it may be only a 10 minute drive to the circuit....

... more than 250 different beer, would it be enough to please you?

Maybe it's time for a beer delivery service. I could deliver Germany's finest Warsteiner, Veltins or Eifel champagne in 0,5 liter cans and 24 cans per crate. I need to check for costs and would need to get the cans back after consumption because of the crap German deposit system.

I'd be very interested to hear how much the Warsteiner works out at. I didn't realise you had to pay a deposit on cans though?!? Bottle deposits I've heard of in many places but not cans. What happens if someone crushes the can after drinking it. How much deposit do they charge?? I might be interested in bringing some home too.

The deposit thing on cans is quite new. We only had it this year and it's still a complete chaos because you have to return the empty cans to the store where you bought them. Still, over the years I found that cans are still the most convenient way to carry the fluid gold. I check the current prices tonight.

Thanks hgb. The other thing of course with cans is that they are significantly lighter than glass bottles so much easier for bulk transportation.

Just recieved this so thought i would share.

Police are warning all male clubbers, partygoers and unsuspecting pub
regulars to be more alert and cautious when accepting the offer of a drink
from girls.

There is a date rape drug going around which is being used to specifically
target unsuspecting males and it is generally in liquid form.

This drug is now being used by female sexual predators at parties to
convince their male victims to have sex with them.

The shocking statistic is that "beer" ,as it is known on the streets, is
available virtually anywhere! All girls have to do is persuade a guy to
consume a few units of "beer" and simply ask the guy home for
no-strings-attached sex.

Men are literally rendered helpless against such attacks.

After several "beers" men will often succumb to desires to perform sex acts
on horrific looking women whom they would never normally be attracted to.

Men often awaken after being given "beer" with only hazy memories of
exactly what has happened to them the night before, just a vague feeling
that something bad occurred.

At other times these unfortunate men might be stung for their life's worth
in a familiar scam know as "a relationship" - apparently men are easier
victims for this scam after the "beer" has been administered and have
already been sexually attacked.

Please! Inform every male friend you know of this. However, if you Fall
victim to this insidious drug and the predatory women administering it,
there are male support groups with venues in every town where you can
discuss the details of your shocking encounter in an open and frank manner with a bunch of similarly-affected like-minded guys.

For the nearest support group near you just look up 'Public House' in the
yellow pages

Just moving away from beer for a second........of course there are the slightly stronger local....ish concoctions which may have a better effect than the pi** water we all love and drink at the circuit and any other time for that matter.
Has anybody tried the local regional illegal hooch..."eau d vie" or even the more popular Calvados.

My ex-brother in law used to own a gite near Angers and knew the local communty well.

He was invited out into the local countryside to try the local "eau d vie" at an illegal still.Anyway we stayed with them a the gite and he got the bottle out for us to try...it was like fire water, but had the desired effect.

So Gilles any chance of getting some of the local hooch for next year?

wishy

Apparently I have tried them before, but having tried them, I remember little about it....or the next few days!?!?

Last year we had a Swedish guy near us who had brought his own home made Vodka with him in a couple of gallon containers. We got some off him which we stored in an empty 1.5 litre water bottle which was all well and good until Shaft pickedit up on Monday morning thinking it was water and took a huge swig!!  ;D

This beverage is quite expensive...
... maybe at least 100 francs for a 50 cl to 75cl bottle.

But it quite wonderful. Actually my grandfather had the legal right to produce his own one. He stopped some years ago but we still have a personnal reserve.

Mine stand in its barrel more than 35 years (so it's called "hors d'age") and it's so good.

The calvados that you can buy in supermarkets is only 40 to 50 degrees, but the real one is between 60 to 70 degrees and even more sometime.

As your bloody whisky hurts me and make me hot, as this "water of life", or as we called in French "la goutte" (the drop), is easy to drink.

70 % :o !!! Have you tried to sell it to Nasamax ? They could well feed their car with that stuff. I was at the local shop and they don't sell beer cans any more due to the new german deposit law >:(. Just another industry going down the drain in Germany. ::)

Gilles that sounds absolutley superb, can i try some????. When I was in Strasbourg during the summer we called in Hugel on a few occasions and as every year bought a case of their eau de vie, my personal favorite is the Marc d'alsace, It wasn't too expensive costing 18 euro's . On a personal note, it hasn't given me a hangover yet. I know tha there are many friut flavoured one's, pear, cherry, raspberry, I also liked the apple one. We must have a tasting session

On a personal note, I rather enjoy a few bottles of Leffe when at Lemons.

I know it is of Belgian persuasion but back home in Blighty I do like a drop of the darker, less gassy beer types and I find that the Leffe Brune is (almost) like a home from home, short of bringing crates of the sticky stuff with me (coals and Newcastle spring swiftly to mind).

 ;D

Having picked a load of sloe berries a few years ago, had a go at making sloe wine, the stuff is leathal, me and the wife would sample a bottle, which would get you bladderd with slightly haloucinationary effects, then you would wake up at about 4 in the morning still on the sofa.
See the harvest is a good one this year so have promised the lads i'll have some brewed for next years event.

My old fella in France makes Sloe Gin with similar effects.  Basically, as he drinks it, his face begins to slide off his skull and he makes strange bleeting noises before falling over.  I've tried it and it simply tastes like gin with a splash of gasoline.  Which of course, it could well be.

What wine do you add the Sloes to, or are you fermenting the crap from the get-go?

Title: Re:DECENT BEER AT LE_MANS

It's the full brewing in the fermentation jar job. The sloe gin's much easier, pick sloes, wash and put in freezer to burst the fruit (saves stabbing them individually).
Empty some gin out of the bottle, usually down your neck.
Put sloes in and add some sugar.
Leave for 2 months, drink and fall over.
I also have a barrel full of fermenting scrumpy here :o

Now that's what I call homebrew!

Does it transport well?  You could kill thousands at Le Mans with that stuff?

Is temporary blindness and acceptable side-effect?

Oh Jesus!  All along I thought all along  it was wine your old man was serving us at Jumelles.  I thought I was just hallucinating from the jet lag.  Oh for fucks sake!  I thought the goat was real....

All these p*ssheads who go to le-mans, bring some tasters please. Re sloe gin. placing the berry's in the freezer, breaks down the intracellular membranes, hence whilst macerating in the jar you get a fuller flavour, you should  always go through the mind numbing job of pricking them. some recipes also call for almonds to be added, suprisingly it does add to the flavour, if you have the patience to keep it 3 years it's even better.

And when you finish the gin pour the sloes out de pip them, add them to melted choclate and spread it out.Leave to cool and you have an alcoholic choclate.
Never tried it, but think it may help the kid's to sleep.
You can also make sloe vodka.
Hmm how about a CA still to make hooch at the race???
