Title: Nuerburgring 2009 - Things are starting to escalate
Post by: hgb on February 20, 2011, 12:40:23 pm
Hi all,

As some of you may know, 4 years ago the government of Rheinland-Pfalz started the Nuerburgring 2009 project. Since then, nearly 400 million Euros have been wasted on a mostly empty shopping mall, a leisure park which nobody visits, a hotel that threatens the local operators, a useless party village, the fastest roller coaster in the world which never worked, a holiday resort village that nobody needs and other worthless crap - all on tax payers expenses. Click the link to get an overview of what was built at the Nuerburgring http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=178657592178715&set=a.159876854056789.32653.159738787403929&ref=nf (http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=178657592178715&set=a.159876854056789.32653.159738787403929&ref=nf).

There's a very comprehensive TV documentation (with English subtitles) in four parts done by the German WDR TV channel. It's roughly 3/4 years old but explains the background of the whole drama very well. Click on the links to watch part 1  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mvHYc4AZIlc&NR=1 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mvHYc4AZIlc&NR=1), part 2 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZsabgmKxOSc&NR=1 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZsabgmKxOSc&NR=1), part 3 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XwKJiBOM5VI&NR=1 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XwKJiBOM5VI&NR=1) and part 4 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7GWPDbJ2xcc&NR=1 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7GWPDbJ2xcc&NR=1).

Also watch the "Safe the Ring" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fbf7VsZ1Hx0&feature=related (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fbf7VsZ1Hx0&feature=related) documentation which was just recently issued by the SWR TV channel.

Please sign the online petition http://www.gopetition.com/petition/41698.html (http://www.gopetition.com/petition/41698.html) to bring this travesty forward to the EU. Please also follow the links in the petition to keep yourself informed.

@ Smokie and Steve: Can this be made a sticky please.

Thank you,
Hansgerd

As I'm very often at the Ring, I followed this story even before the "Save the Ring" movement was created.

They've really messed it up over there by giving everything in the hands of Lindner & co.  Their hotels stay empty, the casino is a big flop, Eifeldorf is crap, the Ring boulevard and museum attracks hardly any visitors ... Instead of trying to solve those problems, they're just making everything worse.  Prices going up, contracts getting more expensive and changed without any consideration.  Seems like the fans will have to get the money out of their pockets to pay the incompetence of Lindner & co. They're trying to monopolise everything at the Ring, which isn't good at all.

When I was at the Ring a few weeks ago, it felt like there's a war going on between the local people and the Lindner management.  RSR Nürburg who are renting cars to drive on the Ring and give driving-courses are suddenly banned from the 'Ring.  Scuderia Hanseat, the longest lasting driving course on the 'Ring cancelled their contract 'cause the price went up with more than 50 %, Mike Frison (20832.com) had to close down his forum when Linder sent some lawyers after him, big car-companies are cancelling their contract ... it's all getting really f*cked up !  Local hotel and restaurant owners, everyone who's in the tourism business is furious about how everything is going at the 'Ring right now ... and they're right, 'cause it doesn't look good at all.

More info can be found on these facebook groups :

Let's hope something changes quickly or it could be over with the greatest track you'll ever find on earth.

89 euro's now for 4 lap ticket, even Dick Turpin wore a mask and the good weekend availability is shocking. Track days in the uk this year i think.
