Title: cheap hotels for 1000km
Post by: hgb on October 14, 2003, 09:31:19 am
This one is for Gilles and Kpy I guess. I'm looking for a cheap hotel room for two/three nights for the 1000 Km race. Any ideas ?

Try Thailand. I once spent a night in what looked like a big dog kennel on the beach for about 50p. Not too handy for the race I admit, but it would certainly reign in the accommodation costs.

No personal knowledge of hotels in town - mine are all romantic hideaways for me and Mme Kpy in the countryside, or I rent a house.
Here's a list of all hotels in Le Mans.
The tourist office will help you book a hotel - they are very helpful and speak English. Phone 0033 43 28 17 22

Thanks very much Andy and Kpy. I looked at a map found out that, sadly, Andy's recommendation is a bit too far off. Although I like the idea of sleeping at the beach I guess that I would soon dry out of beer on the way to the circuit :P . Kpy, do you know the F1 hotel at Arnage ? It's not on the list, the adress is Plan d'eau de la Gemerie. It should be close to the La Sarthe river.

F1 (Formule 1) hotels are part of a cheap and cheerful nationwide chain. You don't actually see any staff - you put your credit card in a slot - but they are warm, cheap and efficient. It is possible to book them.

Call Acropolis at this number 33 (0) 243 725 772, and said to them you call following my recommendation.

This agency is specialised in accomodation all over the city and dedicated to all the events taking place on the circuit....

... and it's also my new office since this morning !!!

Hey boys,
If this is Gilles new office then I think we could do him a favour by all of us ringing up, mentioning Gilles' recommendation, and requesting information. That way, they'll know he's a man with his finger on the pulse, and a valuable new member of their organisation. Right Gilles?

And what if they don't get many bookings from this host of inquiries?
Does that put our Gilles in a good light?
Excellent idea to use the service, but not to make Gilles look like he's got a bunch of w@nkers as contacts.

PS Congratulations on the new job Gilles. Acropolis are lucky to have employed your enthusiasm. Knock 'em bandy son!

Blimey chaps, keep your onions on!!

I was only suggesting we sent a bit of business Gilles' way, not stitch him up! - Maybe include Acropolis details in the Useful Info section on this site.

Incidentally, I made a similar enquiry last year to a site recommended by one of the 'full up' hotel owners. It turned out that this particular outfit, based in Germany, operated on an Agency basis, with a mark up of about 500%!! Maybe we should all ring those guys..

Yours in ambiguity
H

Wasn't trying to knock you, H. Just a mild word to discourage a blanket "Gilles sent me" if you don't want Acropolis services. And I got out of the bike and onions game years ago.
Yes Acropolis shoud go in the "really useful section" - won't stop hotels hiking their rates for 24hrs week though!
You know I'm all for f@cking up any of the rip off agencies any time you like.
Congratulations and good luck in the new job, Gilles. We know you'll do it well!

Gilles, can you book all hotels, even F1 etc, through Acropolis?? Do they charge a mark up themselves or just get a kickback from the hotel??

Looking on the F1 website Kpy gave they have availability for the November weekend at 23 Euros per night.

I've seen that, it's a very good price. Do the F1 hotels have showers and toilet in the room ? Mr. Bed is good too at 27 Euros. There's the hotel Saint Jean in the centre of Ferté de Bernard (30 Kms from LM direction to Paris) at 22 Euros per night.

In Formule 1 , showers and toilets arn't in the room but in the lobby.

The Hotel Saint Jean is quite reasonable and you'll have your own toilets, but a lot of police controls stand on the RN23 from Le Mans to La Ferté-Bernard....

No problemo for me, I leave the racing to the guys on the other side of the fence. ;) They once made a nice picture of me motoring on that route but I wasn't fast enough for a ticket. ;D
