Title: Silverstone 1000k
Post by: Bob U on August 05, 2010, 12:59:47 pm
It's getting close, so it's about time we had a Who, Where and When on this. So.

Bob U --- Friday night --- Hatch Warren.
Saturday night --- Whittlebury Hall campsite.

And just to wet your appetite ---- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_-YJy57VxEM

You're such an orrible barsteward Zarse.

Anyway.....

Friday - Hatch Warren beer festival
Saturday night - Whittlebury campsite I suspect (although yet to be confirmed) - you'll know where we are from the loud noise and exclusion zone, around all of us for a change - last year was horrendous carnage.....

I hope to get there Thursday evening but where I camp depends upon the facilities at the circuit site and where everybody else is going to be.  And all pre-supposes that my driving license has turned up by then. ::)

Does anyone know if you need a pass this year for the pitwalk?

I remember last year, there was confusion about where you went in - certainly not at Woodcote end as they had done before - I walked up to Copse end and was told I needed a ticket!
There was much confusion amoungst the staff regarding whether you needed passes or not - resulting in many people not being allowed in (including me!) without the correct pass - despite it being advertised as being an open pit.

Anyone in the know, know if these are needed - and how I go about getting some.....................................??

From what I remember of the booking process the pitlane tickets are an extra £30 over the general admission price. You can book them on the Silverstone website at the same time as you book the GA.

P.S. Whoever told the bloke above that Silverstone isn't as riotous as Le-Mans wants stringing up - clearly you've never camped near us!  Last year, Steve Zarse nearly got carted off to hospital, we lost a girl to another tent, and there were strange pumping noises coming from one of the dutch tents.  It was like the Compact version of Le-Mans :)

Errrrm.... In a tent is about as precise as I can be right now..... I don't think we've had a final decision yet - although Whittlebury was where we went last year.....bloody treck to the circuit though!

Got an email from PFPR yesterday, there might be a change of plans. Spyker Squadron is trying to arrange something, and -as a consequence- Meesh and I might come up to Silverstone after all. Therefore Pieter and Martijn might come too, aside from Riert who's coming definately - the rest of the DfH group unfortunately seems too occupied with private life. Keep your orange shirts aside please, we might request you to wear them. Will keep you all updated in due course ;)

Stay in Milton Keynes as I will need to stay with the KSM team - there is some work involved. How and where can I meet you and Mark in Basingstoke friday night - can you giv me directions? We will have a car. Or may be better take a cab ;D

We have two pitches at WH, sure we can squeeze an extra car & tent on the two 6m x 7m pitches [unless Barry & Jo also turn up!]

I haven't heard from Whittlebury yet but obviously will try to get my own pitch as it's more practical (my tent's quite big as I can't use a crawl in one any more). Once I do I'll make my final plans and keep you posted.

Thanks for all the offfers of help, guys.  On this forum, anything is possible!

The car parks are those grey blobs in the left hand corner. Head north and you will find the entrance.

When we went 2 years ago they had separate kiosks for those who were paying by cash and by card.
Quiet long queues to pay by card, no queue to pay by cash.

I had a good trawl around laterooms last night and there was nowhere available on the Saturday night within a reasonable distance.  If you're prepared to drive from Oxford I know somewhere quite reasonable there. I know it's a bit of a treck but 40 mins or so is about the best you'll do from what I can see.

Oh what fun,

Still planning to go to Silverstone next week, but work is still top priority, so still not confirmed yet.

But in the mean time, thought if we do go see if I could find a take away to deliver for Sat night.

Great idea, used google maps to find one,

http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=en&q=Whittlebury&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wl

try this, do search nearby, and type in "take away" and look at "A" (near silverstone) and see the fastest Indian takeaway ever. (if it google search works)

I want to see their delivery cars now  ;D

No doubt I'll find you.......

In a previous year we all told Whittlebury we were CA and, theoretically at least, they put us together but I do remember that Ade was some way off.....

I'll be going straight to the circuit on arrival on Friday to catch practice sessions and hook up with Werner then around to Whittlebury afterwards to tent pitch etc.  No response from them at all so I'll phone them on Monday to see if they can squeeze me in.  I'd be surprised if the place was completely full.

  1) General Admission ticket  @ £26.00
  1) Pit Walk pass    @ £30.00

Just  had a look at the weather for the weekend. Found a useful site specifically for motor racing circuits at:

http://www.netweather.tv/index.cgi?action=motor-racing;page=5

Following looks likely:
Friday
Dry all day and quite warm in the afternoon.
Saturday
Heavy rain starts at 10am and becomes torrential by 13.00, stopping by mid afternoon.
Sunday
Dry all day and mild (18-19deg) by early afternoon.

As I'm not getting there until the Friday morning I think it's straight over to the circuit and pitch the tent when it's stopped raining after the CER race which I have to see!

To be fair Doris, You used to be an "everything" girl (race meetings obviously, I would never make reference to anything else...ish)....and so far this year, I haven't seen you at a single race meeting - anyone would think you'd moved to a different hemisphere or something! :)

Much love

Due to a last minute change of travel plans (need to be in NL next Monday for a week, so not off home to France this weekend), I'll be heading to Silverstone on Saturday once I've got the slow puncture (that's been there for the last 6+ months) fixed. Hope to see some/all of you there.

All we need now is for Neil to get his arse in gear and turn up

Well, my arse would love to get in gear and come. But due to lack of funds, and customers telling me the cheque is in the post - Damm postman  ::)

Looks like I can not make it this year, sorry folks, was looking forward to it and even making bacon butties again on the sunday. Even had a new toy to bring.

Unless anything happens in the next few days, looks like you lot will have to get drunk and enjoy racing without me - ahhhh

Have fun and hope it's a good one.

Have a great time folks, disapointed cant be there, the Gall bladder removal op went well yesterday, but now have a very sore belly with 3 holes in it. Looking forward to putting back some (but not all) of the 24lbs I have lost in the last 2 weeks (been surviving on 2 Yogarts, 1/2 pint of milk and 2 scrambled eggs a day) shame it wont be with some of Basingstoke finest ales or Bob's most excellent Curry. Enjoy the weekend and try and see some racing in between.

Good luck with the recovery, SR.  I had that done just after the 24 and was fit for the Classic (well fit in that department at any rate.)  You need to get the timing right next time. :)

Drat and double drat. Looks like I'm going to be working on Saturday but if I'm still feeling fresh I might gun the Alfa down Saturday night. It's a 300 mile run from here but I can usually do it in around 4 hours. That will make it around midnight by the time I get to Whittlebury. What's the craic for late arrivals?

Well the Race wasn't a Classic but then they can't all be fantastic.

For me the best bit was the fact my wife enjoyed the day.
Thanks to Werner for organising acceess to the KSM garage so we could wittness a Pit stop at close quarters.

I think I met up with most people over the weekend though I know I missed Barry.

Good to meet some new faces and see some familiar ones.

Thanks to AJW and Lord Steve for the "encouragement" with the gazebo [may it RIP at Whittlebury].

Good night Saturday night - thanks to everyone who put up with my kids, and to those who were trying to get my eldest drinking beer, I know who you are  ;D

Needless to say daughter is very keen on the idea of joining The Melans in 4 years time when she will become - wait for it - Ellen the Melan!

Thought the race was so so, damn those Peugeots again.  Just hope that the new Aston Martin car - which looks fantabulous - will even up the field a lot.

We also visited the KSM pit [Hi Werner], though on the other side with Team RLR.  They sound very ambitious and will be completing a full LMS season in 2011 with the intent of entering Le Mans in 2012.  They're running an MG Lola EX265 in LMP2 but will be fitting a new engine across the winter & hope to be able to compete with Strakka once the car has more BHP.

So 2 events done this month, just The Revival Meeting to go and that's Friday this week.

Paul/Landman

I must admit that although the final outcome of the GT2 category was not exactly what I had wanted - the racing at that level was very entertaining. And watching those LMP1's and 2's work their way through the traffic was quite breathtaking on occasions.

I was astonished by the amount of change at Silverstone as well – credit where credit is due - it is beginning to look quite amazing.

Your comment about the LMP1's and 2's weaving through the slower cars is exactly what got my kids hooked yesterday.

Good to see so many CA'ers at Silverstone this year, sorry I missed you Tom.

Great shame the Audi broke down, the LMP1 race was a bit predictable after that, although great to see the Drayson team having a good run until they ran into trouble.

And it's didn't rain, although I agree that it was bloody cold on Saturday night.

I agree that it was bloody cold on Saturday night.

No problem at our camp, top quality beer blankets were in evidence.

Great to meet up with friends old and new.

Shame  Mcnish's car broke so early. The first half hours duel with Davidson was better than anything you will see in F1.

I would totally agree with that, very aggressive stuff from Davidson, with McNish giving it back with spades, if the Audi hadn't broke, it would probably have ended in tears all round.

Watched most of the race on the tele ... Start was great with the McNish - Davidson battle, but as soon as McNish fell out all tension slipped out of the race.  Actually it got a bit boaring to the end ...

Greeat to meet up with some I have met properly before & others I had seen around Le Mans.

As for the race I just enjoyed seeing the cars if Aston or Drayson couldn't win. I did see Darren Turner towards the end of the race in the paddock not looking best pleased  >:(  I Bet Darren hates Silverstone now after his Tourist trophy win was snatched away in May as well >:(  >:(

I've got a lot of editing to do yet, but here are a few ( ::)) pics from the weekend.  I'm afraid I had serious catch fencing issues due to the cr*p facilities for chair users at the circuit - especially on Friday and Saturday.
