Title: Silverstone classic Post by: Lord Steve on July 12, 2010, 07:35:30 am Does anyone have plans to go this year? Last year was excellent so I'm planning to attend again but am currently thinking about arriving on the Saturday evening and camping at either Whittlebury or Litchlake.
Anyone else? Steve Title: Re: Silverstone classic Post by: Fran on July 12, 2010, 12:27:46 pm It had sort of crossed my mind - is this what used to be Coys Historic at Silverstone or something completely different?
F Title: Re: Silverstone classic Post by: Barry on July 12, 2010, 12:35:42 pm I haven't seem any classic racing for ages ;)
When is it? Title: Re: Silverstone classic Post by: Fran on July 12, 2010, 12:38:06 pm You know that grumbling/squealing noise that disturbed your sleeping/drinking pattern for the last few days?
Thats it..... (tho in fairness, some of it may have been Martini snoring). F (Edit: must still be a bit dozy - I thought you said "what is it"? Its 23-25 July http://www.silverstoneclassic.com/) Title: Re: Silverstone classic Post by: Barry on July 12, 2010, 01:55:47 pm Its 23-25 July Unfortunately won't be able to make it, going surfing in France a few days later, and need to get the camping kit sorted, again. Hope this years race is as good !!
Title: Re: Silverstone classic Post by: Fran on July 13, 2010, 08:50:42 pm I prefer the look of the race line up for Saturday rather than Sunday - but could always camp over on Saturday night so I don't miss Jedward!!

I thought it was just your northern charm. Get yer Geordie Jeans on and wiggle yer arse a bit, maybe that will do the trick? Ron had a good innings at 82, and was still independent at home (just) with all faculties and functions intact; in typical fashion, he would not have wished to be a "burden".
He served in the Fleet Air Arm as an Airframe and Engine Mechanic during the War and afterwards, with 804 Sqn on Seafires embarked on HMS Theseus. After that he joined the Royal Artillery for a few years before working as an electrical engineeer, but always took great and particular pride in his service with the RN, and was active with various ex-Service associations. Last year he became the president of his local British Legion branch - it was a pleasure last year to be in uniform standing next to him on the dais as he took the salute from those marching past on Remembrance Day. A fine and good gentleman to raise a glass to. Hope silverstone was good!!! Gary and I did miss you today (aye, and the boy "who knows about those things ye ken") We will see you soon anyway and maybe raise a glass together to Ron. Highlight for me (and the main reason I went) were the thundering Lola T70s. Awesome machines! The paddock had a bewildering array of just about everything you could ever want to see, all given full death by the drivers. Great weekend.

Glad you liked 'em. Steve Title: Re: Silverstone classic Post by: Gordonwr on August 04, 2010, 07:53:34 am Stunning pics Steve, I just love those T70 shots. The cars look just as good asthey did the first time in the '70s.
Note... need to put date in diary for next year, Cheers Gordon. Title: Re: Silverstone classic Post by: Martini...LB on August 04, 2010, 08:26:27 am Good stuff Steve, only criticism is I would have liked to have tied up an engine shot with a body shot. We are not alll whizzers when it comes to ID, and yes I know some do know it, even in the dark (as Dr S would prove)
Are these taken using a general access ticket? Must put this on my list I think, thanks for sharing. >Martini...LB Title: Re: Silverstone classic Post by: Lord Steve on August 06, 2010, 07:58:28 am Stunning pics Steve, I just love those T70 shots. The noise is fearsome!Note... need to put date in diary for next year, Cheers Gordon. Great access to the cars, drivers, paddock and pit lane although remember to take advantage of the internet pre-booking offer of £35 for the Sunday. I left it too late and had to pay £50 on the gate which is a bit pricey. Brilliant day nevertheless. Are these taken using a general access ticket?
